Brad Allen has been teaching both my sons, 9 and 11 years old, for the past 3 years. He is very patient and the children seem to respond very well to his calm demeanor. They love going to piano class, this is one thing I don't have to fight about, and they are always happy to practice at home. They have come a long way with his instruction and has been able to keep them motivated and excited about learning to play the piano. We are very lucky to have found him as a teacher.

Brad is an excellent piano teacher. I have watched him guide my 9-year-old son over a two year period. My son know has a strong musical foundation in piano he can apply to other instruments. Brad has a very relaxed and calm demeanor. He guides students in a subtle way, so they take ownership of their learning and maintain motivation. Most importantly, Brad's personality creates a stress-free learning environment. This is crucial for children to maintain a love and passion for music. Brad is very encouraging, warm and cares about the students he teaches. I highly recommended him to parents who want to instill a love of music in their children!

Our son has taken piano lessons from Mr. Allen for 3 years. He started when he was 6 years old. Mr. Allen uses praise to motivate and gives feedback in a manner that inspires our son to improve. He also encourages creativity and will work with song material that interests our son. Our son continues to love playing the piano and feels a great sense of accomplishment with the skills he has developed under Mr. Allen's guidance. I highly recommend Mr. Allen as a music instructor.

Ben U.

Columbus, OH

I have been playing the piano since I was five years old. My passion for music led me to steadily progress in my studies, and I naturally chose to major in music at Ohio State. To broaden my scope, I earned my degree in Composition while taking piano lessons concurrently from Professor Emeritus George Haddad and Professor Steven Glaser. Rather than focus on one area of piano music, I augmented my repertoire through extensive study of the Baroque through Modern periods. In addition, I accompanied orchestra and band instruments, a youth choir, and even performed the first movement of Shostakovich’s Second Piano Concerto with my high school’s chamber orchestra.

I am very perceptive of my students’ rate of improvement and level of engagement with the music they’re playing. If they are stuck on something, I am patient to go over the lesson as much as needed. If they feel bored, I will find more challenging music for them. A great incentive to play is that I offer lessons on my ...

Education

BM Music Composition --“ Ohio State University, Autumn 2012
BA Classics (Greek and Latin) --“ Ohio St
ate University, Autumn 2012
Classics Fellowship --“ Indiana University, 2013-2014
Piano Training: Collegiate lessons from Steven Glaser and private lessons from George Haddad

Accomplishments

As a high school senior, under the tutelage of OSU Professor Emeritus and world-renowned pianist George Haddad, I performed the first movement of Shostakovich'™s Second Piano Concerto with the chamber orchestra.

I performed different self-composed pieces at seven OSU Composers'™ Workshops and won the Audience Favorite Award at the Johnstone Woodwinds Composition Competition in 2012. My Senior Composition Recital was performed on October 25, 2012. It showcased several of my three-movement works: string quartet, clarinet solo, set of classical songs for piano and voice, set of pop songs for piano and voice. Interspersed with these were two solo piano pieces and a duet for piano and violin.

My background makes me a knowledgeable and effective tutor. I was valedictorian at Delaware Hayes High School in 2009 and received OSU'™s Maximus Scholarship based on my ACT and SAT scores.

Szu-Yu is very knowledgeable and skilled, everything stated about her is correct. I am very please that she is willing to work with me and discuss how I play, I am almost 60 years old and can play some. She is not judgmental but very positive and encouraging. She is not intimidated by my age, (my daughter is older). She knows her stuff and is very confident.
We meet at a practice facility in a college, that is fun and interesting.
My money is being well spent and I am learning things that should help me to grow and enjoy the piano, and possible reach a personal goal to be able to play at church.
