No matter what your skill level is we take a serious study addressing technique, theory, chords, scales, a whole arsenal of licks, riffs, and rhythm in a plethora of styles.
Throughout my studies of theory and harmony, I realized how valuable it is to learn the basics of the guitar. I studied the guitar independently to learn the fingerings of the most useful chords. Students anxious to be able to play a song right off the bat are often pleased to discover that they can play through a whole song using only two or three chords. The guitar provides students with endless possibilities; they can experiment with different rhythms, never having to play a song the same way twice.
I grew up listening to classical music; I remember listening to a Mozart and a Grieg tape over and over again. By high school, I was interested in more recent popular music that carried on in the same tradition of greatness. Andrew Lloyd Webber first caught my attention. From there, I listened to the music of the ‘60s and became quite knowledgeable in the British Invasion. My ear for this type of music allows me to teach the guitar and provide students with an ample repertoire.
I'm an accomplished flatpicker who's spent four years studying under Denison University's Casey Cook (founding member of the Atlanta-based bluegrass group The Dappled Grays). I've studied the playing styles of Tony Rice, Norman Blake, Bryan Sutton, and David Grier. I performed in 8 Denison Bluegrass Ensemble Concerts for crowds of nearly 1000 and opened for Ricky Skaggs in front of a packed crowd at the Midland Theater.
I teach acoustic and electric guitar for rock, pop, folk, country, blues, praise and worship. I've been playing guitar for 36 years, and teaching guitar for 14 years. With me you will learn, chords, scales, practical music theory, improvisation, sight reading, tablature, and most importantly songs by your favorite artists!
