Private Guitar Teacher

Guitar is one of the most popular instruments today. It has a long history as an instrument, and with the invention of the electric guitar, has become a dominant voice of multiple generations.

Vince began playing guitar as a teenager. He initially learned on his mother's electric guitar and 12-string acoustic guitar. He took some lessons, but is largely self taught by transcribing music. Since attending college for trumpet, Vince has applied that musical knowledge to the guitar.

Vince has recorded guitar on many of his solo albums including Syzygy and Sound Plan as well as other artists' music. He performs regularly with the John Byrne Band on 6-string banjo (tuned like a standard guitar) and has appeared on electric 12-string and 6-string acoustic guitar.

Vince owns an array of guitars: 6-string electrics, 12-string electric, 6-string acoustics, 12-string acoustics, and 6-string banjo. He has a few amps and many pedals to augment the guitars' sound. He teaches from his ...

About Vince

Vince privately teaches trumpet, guitar, electric bass guitar, arranging, composition, music theory, ear training, and improvisation to students of all ages and levels.

“Basically he’s the go-to cross-genre horn-blowing utility man of the Philly scene” (John Vettese, The Key). Vince is a professional trumpeter, arranger, composer, and multi-instrumentalist. Though firmly rooted in jazz, he is comfortable with a wide variety of genres including rock, soul, funk, folk, classical, and electronic.

Vince earned the Masters of Music degree in Jazz Performance from the University of the Arts; and earned the Bachelor of Science in Music degree concentrating in Jazz Studies and Theory & Composition from the State University of New York (SUNY) at New Paltz. He studied trumpet through undergraduate and graduate school with Rebecca Coupe Franks

, Dennis Wasko, and John Swana. Vince has also attended master classes held by Randy Brecker, Matt Gallagher, Michael Abene, Craig Morris, Steve Wilson, Claudio Roditi, Pat Martino, Malcolm McNab, Matthew Shipp, Scott Holbert, John Abercrombie, Jeff Curnow, and Alison Balsom.

Vince first began teaching music in 2006 as the trumpet instructor at Silver Creek Central School. He directed trumpet master classes for high school students. Vince later took on various private students teaching trumpet, guitar, electric bass, improvisation, arrangement and composition. While earning his Master of Music at the University of the Arts, he served as the trumpet department intern and was responsible for teaching private trumpet lessons, preparing transcriptions for class materials and live performances, and proctoring music theory exams. Also at UArts, Vince was a teaching assistant for the Freshman Jazz Improvisation class for which he conducted sectionals, administered exams, and offered critiques regarding inventiveness of improvisations. In 2017 he taught a jazz improvisation masterclass at Schenectady County Community College.

Since each student approaches music differently; Vince tailors his teaching to fit students' approaches. He asks each student, "What do you want to accomplish?" Together, they set short and long term goals. Vince believes a strong technical foundation leads to freer ease of artistic expression. His students receive a wholistic approach to music applicable to whatever instrument they choose.

Vince’s original music has been described as “a contemporary instance of fusion done right” (Matthew Aquilin, All About Jazz). His next album, The Nook, is a full length straight-ahead jazz album featuring John Swana. The music harks back to Miles Davis' first great quintet. The Nook was preceded by Sound Plan (2017), Live at PafA (2017), Syzygy (2014), and Syzygy: Remix (2014). Vince is currently self producing four more solo albums. One unreleased composition was recently featured in the Philadelphia Real Book Volume 1.

Vince has appeared as a side man on 40+ albums. He is the trumpeter and arranger with the York Street Hustle, the John Byrne Band, and You Do You. Vince founded the Philly Phatness horn section, which has recorded with regional, national, and international artists, and on film soundtracks. He serves as Musical Director and bassist for Phloyd: a Philadelphia Pink Floyd tribute band. "His horn croons and wahs with touches of funk or blues, bridging the futuristic digital age with a snazzy sense of classic cool" (Geno Thackara, All About Jazz).

Quotes:

"Vince proves himself a very creative composer. I look forward to hearing more from this upcoming composer & instrumentalist." (Fred "Rock Steady Freddie" Reiter)

"Vince plays his horn with creative passion and soul, his tone is very open and full these two combined make him one of the leading up and coming young jazz trumpet players of today." (Rebecca Coupe Franks)

"I've had the great pleasure of working with Vince as an arranger and writer. His music explores many styles and directions, and is always well crafted. He has an original and distinctive voice as a player, an arranger, and a writer. Such dedicated talent deserves to be heard, and I'm sure we'll be hearing a lot from Vince in the future." About Art

Art has been playing guitar for 15 Years and has been a professional musician his entire adult life. After graduating from the world famous Musicians Institute in Los Angeles Art taught hundreds of students from complete beginners to touring pros and has played on several national commercials/tv themes and played countless gigs in nearly every time zone from Seattle to New York to Sydney.

Currently Art is the guitar player in the half texan half australian rock outfit Dellacoma who just finished up 15 months of nearly non stop touring and just released their first album on Shock Records. Theyve toured all over America and Australia and currently are preparing for European tour dates across Germany, Spain, Italy, France, Belgium and the UK in the summer of 2016. Theyve shared the stage with Def Leppard, Styx, Black Label

Now off the road for a signifigant amount of time, Art has resumed teaching full time and is resuming enrolling students. Art has been a guitar teacher for over 6 years and has taught (and played) everything from taylor swift to metallica to james brown. He believes every student learns at their own pace and does not believe in a "one size fits all approach" for learning the guitar. He tailor makes every curriculum for the student and can help every individual achieve their goal whether its strumming around the campfire or wanting to dazzle crowds with technical wizardry.

*** Lesson Details ***
Students taking lessons from me can expect a balanced music lesson. A combination of practical skill based things such as technique, scales, theory but also learning your favorite songs from your favorite bands or artists. I bring conservatory based training mixed with real life world experience to students from my training at the Musicians Institute and the hundreds of gigs and recording sessions. I have a very laid back approach and believe that music lessons are healthiest and most fun activities a human being can engage in. I use a wide variety of curriculums based on the students skill levels and wants and needs. Whether you're an absolute beginner intermediate or advanced or you want to learn acoustic pop, funk or heavy metal i've performed it, recorded it and taught it. After a few months of lessons with me students can expect to be playing along to there favorite songs, able to improvise over chord progressions and developed some technique and sense of rhythm.

*** Studio Equipment ***
The lessons are taught in the living room with all equipment. Seating is available. Parking is on the street.

*** Travel Equipment ***
I provide copies of material as well as my own supplies from paper and pen to cabes tuners and amp. I expect the student to have a quiet space {assuming an in home lesson} to teach in as well as guitar, amp, and picks. I also provide the music stand and metronome.

*** Specialties ***
Various method books published by Musicians Institute press, Alfred and Hal leonard and cherry lane. Fluent in ALL styles - Rock, Pop, Country, Funk, R&B, and heavy metal etc etc. Also very fluent in sight reading, Theory and how it applies to the students prospective instrument as well as Ear Training

Private Guitar Teacher
About Daniel

Music has been my passion for my entire life. I have over 20 years of experience playing guitar, and other instruments on tour and in the recording studio. I have a degree in music and audio and music production. I believe that music should be fun to make the most of it. I can get you to wherever YOU want to get to. You choose your goals, I know I can get you there, and have fun while getting there.

*** Lesson Details ***
In learning any instrument there are 3 key areas that I believe are the keys to success. Keeping the interest, patience, and repetition. My method of teaching is usually to start with the basics. Slow everything down until it becomes second nature and build, build, build. With the right exercises, and the right way to think about the instrument, letting muscle memory do what it does best, you will notice imp

rovement quick. Above all, I make sure enthusiasm is never lost because without it, there is no point. I make the lessons fun and laid back, but always take my job seriously.

*** Travel Equipment ***
I expect them to provide their own instruments. I can bring an extra guitar for lessons but it is extremely encouraged to have an instrument to practice on.

*** Specialties ***
Although I specialize in rock instrumentation and song writing, I also have the knowledge of classical music theory and jazz. As far as rock music goes, I have plenty of experience in blues based rock and jazz based rock with a very wide catalog of styles under my belt.

I often draw upon my experience from my master's degree in music therapy, which taught me that music can have a profound effect on the human brain and upon cognitive development.  My skills as a music therapist allow me to better understand a student's cognitive strengths and areas for improvement, and to develop individualized teaching strategies which utilize student strengths.

I took acoustic guitar lessons with Adam and he was a wonderful teacher. I had little knowledge of the guitar and felt I developed my skills quickly. Adam was patient, nice and came up with fun exercises and song selections. Would highly recommend Adam as a teacher!

Adam’s superpowers as a guitar teacher are commitment and a calm demeanor. It was clear from my first lesson that Adam was singularly dedicated to my advancement even at times when my dedication wavered. I was able to successfully learn a Death Can for Cutie song that I had loved for years (I will follow you into the dark). Though i had taken lessons in the past, i felt i had the most chemistry with Adam’s thoughtful approach to teaching guitar. Our lessons were fun and laced with lighthearted humor. I moved to NYC and Adam was 100% committed to ensuring our lessons continued via Skype. Unfortunately the move was a big life change that refocused my priorities. I wish that Adam lived in NY so we could continue playing together!

If you want to get started with guitar, I'm the one you've been looking for. I'll get you started with basic theory, then I'll gradually move on to more advanced topics. I have a good background in this subject. I've actually taught this subject to a student who already had seven years experience; he didn't know how to put chords together in the right way. Guitar can be fun!

About Larry

First off, I want to mention something that potential Philadelphian students should be aware of. I can only go to certain sections of the city, and I can only give you lessons on weekday afternoons between 12-2pm. Sorry, no evening classes. I'll need time to travel between New Jersey and Pennsylvania. Actually, I prefer students in South Jersey. Those students can have lessons in my available time frame.

Now, a little about myself.
Are you looking for a great tutor? I'm the one you've been looking for.

I've had more than 3 years of tutoring experience in the following subjects:

* Computers (Java, general topics, C++, C, HTML, application programming, and others)
* Math (from elementary math to algebra)
* Piano (from basic to more advanced)
* Guitar (from theory to more advanced)

I've had favorable reviews from my former

clients, and I'll have competitive low rates as well. What are you waiting for?

"I have a great time learning with Ahmad , because he knows an amazing amount about music, the guitar, performance, and recording. I throw questions about
him about frets, intonation, tuning, chord naming, pick angle, string gauges, fingering, chord voicing. He's consistently humble about his knowledge, and then tells me everything I could want to know on the subject. When I ask about players I like, he's completely familiar with how those players play. It seems like half the time he's had my favorite players as his own instructors.

Best of all, Ahmad really loves music. He's genuinely thrilled at my improvement, and is very respectful of what I already know and how I already play. I've been playing the guitar for a long time, but Ahmad got me excited about making music."
