MUSIC LESSONS: Whether I am playing salsa, solo classical piano, in a jazz ensemble, or a concert band, I am ALWAYS having fun doing what I love, and I want you to have the same experience. After moving to Philadelphia ten years ago to study at Temple University, where I received my Bachelor of Music in Jazz Performance, I have had many great opportunities to play all types of music with all types of people. While my passions are in jazz music, composing, and arranging, my varied experience helps me pass on the fundamentals necessary to becoming a great musician while also adapting to your goals, needs, and musical preferences.
*** Lesson Details *** I aim for students to leave each lesson eager to practice and explore, and to come back with questions and stories of their progress. To that end, I work hard to tailor lessons to every
individuals interests and goals. Sometimes this means arranging, transcribing a recording, or even composing something new for my students. Additionally, in each lesson, I balance technical skills, ear training, and music theory to assure that each student walks away a complete musician, all structured around your musical goals.
*** Travel Equipment *** The student must provide their own instrument and assigned method books. I will provide a music stand if necessary, and other useful instructional tools (metronome, tuner, etc.)
*** Home Studio *** I offer lessons in my home located within walking distance of Broad Street in South Philadelphia, near the Tasker-Morris subway stop. I am equipped with a well-playing upright piano and plenty of space for musical activities. There is ample street parking in the area during the afternoon and early evening, and our living room is available to parents while students take their lesson. Students who travel to me for lessons gain all the benefits of performing on a piano, rather than an electric keyboard, and have access to many more resources that I am able to offer from my home, such as recordings and method books.
*** Specialties *** I specialize teaching "late starters" (teens and adults new to piano) fundamentals in music in a fun and exciting way that will have you playing the music you love quickly.
For brass instruments, I am able to help brand new beginners build up their sound and facility through simple exercises that will have them astounded by their progress.
MATH: I use my years of classroom teaching and Master's degree in math education as experience to help guide you to the success you are seeking. I am able to tailor sessions to your specific needs with a few key points in mind:
- helping you catch-up, while also preparing you for what is ahead - balancing practice with conceptual knowledge and application - using research-based techniques to maximize your learning
I am a patient teacher, and well-equipped to explain tough topics in multiple ways. I like to use visuals and objects with simple examples to help my students really understand a concept before we try harder material. Total understanding and confidence is my goal for you.
My personal interests in mathematics are problem solving, puzzles, and combinatorics (think "How many different outfits can I make with all the clothes in my closet?"). If you're looking for an addicting puzzle to try, I suggest KenKen to all my students.

I can teach you songwriting skills as well if you have a real ;interest in that direction. I started writing songs when I was around 11 years old. It'
s a passion of mine. If you have a melody for a song, but have a problem finding or creating your lyrics, we can work on that, or vice versa. If you have some great lyrics but you need to find your melody and/or need to create your song flow "for" those lyrics, we can also work on those skills. There are different types of formats for songwriting, which I can teach you to find what will best fit your song building efforts, etc...
I also offer pre-math and regular math skills for ages 3 to 11 years, also, reading, writing, and some FUN phonics skills. For those interested in ART, we can have a grand time with color, art skills, and art motivation.
Whatever your focus is on, just contact me and let me know.
So ... Reach out and let me know. 😁😁😁 Lets have some fun in whichever direction your going!

I am a graduate of Temple University with a B.S. in Early Childhood Education. I love to have fun and teach (mostly at the same time!), and always want to make sure my students are comfortable.
Math students can expect a fun, engaging environment, with multiple opportunities for growth and many questions. Each student is unique in their own way and I love meeting students where they are, building from there. I like to build off of prior knowledge in order to help them understand more complex ideas. Moreover, relating questions to situations/ideas they are familiar with will help with understanding!
I have experience tutoring and teaching students from ages 2, all the way up to 18! I currently tutor 6th-9th graders on Saturday mornings in History, and I was previously a Math teacher for 5th grade. During the week, I teach Pre-K in a
ll subject areas.
As an educator, I pride myself on making sure my students are confident in their work and reach their fullest potential. Having fun, making sure the students are relaxed, and a comfortable environment are my 3 main goals for each session! My personal passions include Math, special education, and music!
I am a professor with seventeen years worth of experience in teaching various subjects for a multitude of students. I've taught subjects such as creative writing, commercial law, ancient civilization, ancient and transitional Latin and Greek, as well as Graphic Design, Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign), Federal and Commercial Building Compliance and Law, et cetera. To put it bluntly, there's very little I cannot teach.
I've taught GED classes and courses for the State of Michigan and the Northeast Penitentiary system for seven years as well, which has been some of the most rewarding experiences I've ever had.
I believe that everyone can learn. All it takes is that student to professor connection and knowing what type of learner the student is. I don't believe in a "one shoe fits all" type of teaching style.
My students are unique, with different ways of looking at problems and different ways of coming to their own conclusions and solutions.
Good teaching is a mixture of art and science—the ability to grab and keep students' attention and convey complex information, Mr. K does just that!! I have taken about 4 or 5 classes with him and I must say he has taught me everything I need now in my career. Patient and vastly knowledge. Definitely would take another class with him!

Mr. K taught was amazing. He taught the GED in Michigan a few years ago. The moment I walked into his classroom, it was just one and one. He didn't treat me like all the other teachers. He actually cared and it showed. But man, is he hard! I didn't think I would get homework after the first class, but I was seriously wrong. But over the next two months, he grilled me and grilled me until I wanted to scream. But when I took the GED and was scored, I aced it! Just to warn yall though, he's not an easy teacher. And he doesn't put up with excuses. But when he gives you his attention, its all of it.
He even went waaaay beyond the call of duty and helped me get into college at Lansing Community College. He walked me through the application, even drove and met me at LCC, and sat with me when we talked to the reps. He even helped me look for scholarships and gave me advise on financial aid! This guy is a saint!

Andy embodies all that a good teacher should be. He mixes the art of emotional connection to the science. After 5 hours teaching sessions with Andy, and without having any prior knowledge on accounting, I felt confident in the fundamentals. He is excellent in helping someone thoroughly understand the subject matter. He is patient, flexible and highly professional and I would highly recommend Andy to anyone seeking a tutor.
My name is Jessie and I have been teaching middle school mathematics for 3 years. I enjoy teaching math in a way that anyone can understand it and apply what they learn to their real life. I hope to help kids better understand a challenging subject so that they can become better students and better people.
"Rosita is so sweet and patient. She made Carina's first lesson lots of fun. We are excited for future lessons."
"Chris tutored my son in a very short amount of time. He gave him an orientation to the test and notes and prescribed pointers for each section. My son had
to cram based on a late decision to take the test and Chris’ help made a world of difference. My son actually looked forward to each tutoring session."
"The best tutor, makes writing essays seems simple!"
"Milka tutored me in chemistry and I ended up with an A! She was so patient and always willing to help. Even if I had a question about homework I could tex
t her and she would help me out. She even had to leave town and was willing to skype or facetime. You can tell that she loves what she does. I highly recommend her as a tutor!! It was more than about money for her!"
"She is great!"
"My daughter described her lesson as excellent, thorough and fun. She is looking forward to future lessons. I could not be more pleased."
"Quick and precise hints for better writing. We made a great plan for future lessons. Alexandra doesn't waste words, but uses the available time optimal."
"today's class was very intresting.I got to learn lot's of details that the books did not tell me"
"Mr Guy is a super talented and passionate teacher, he will never give up on the student until success, by success I mean 95s and above. History can be a h
ard class as there is a lot of timelines and events that have happened, especially world history. After having him as a teacher I have never stopped thinking about the timelines and the events, and the best part of Guy as a teacher, he will make sure that you understand both sides of the story, such as from an American side, and German side. This opens my mind up to an international viewpoint, and I have been able to have conversations with historians about for example WW2 and I have managed to surprise them with my knowledge, only because of Mr Guy. Never have I ever met such a passionate teacher in my entire life, and I would even want him to private tutor me if I was still taking History."
