Private Violin Teacher

No two students are ever alike. I've learned that using only one method may not benefit all students. Therefore, I use a variety of methods, some of which include Hanon, the Bastien Series, Suzuki technique for Piano and Violin, and countless others depending on what the student wishes to achieve. I have found that my most successful (and satisfied) students are the ones that express to me their specific musical goals, and then I am able to find a combination of methods to help them practice, rehearse, and refine their style of interest.

Lesson Style
Lessons are uniquely tailored to the students' goals, be it to become functional with an instrument or to dominate at an audition. We will go through warm-ups that will place emphasis on technique, explore various methods so that the student may decide which one gets them the best result, and then work through the repertoire not only for proficiency, but also for interpretation, precise yet passionate phrasing, and of course, to ...

About Michelle

Rehabilitating and strengthening voices are two of my top specialties, and each lesson will have specific exercises tailored to helping you transform your voice into the highest and best version of your instrument. I work with singers signed to labels as well as the indie artist just starting to find his/her voice, style, and signature sound. My coaching approach incorporates some of the newest technologies that have shown extraordinary results in breaking down the inner blocks of each artist. It is a tremendously joyful and fulfilling experience to watch as my students really let their instrument shine brightly, boldly, and with an aboslutely stunning groundedness as they discover how powerful they truly are.

Poised, energized, and armed with unforgettable performance ability, Michelle G

. is a firework in the artistic arena. Her training began at the young age of 3 with the violin, and a few years later received classes for piano and voice. Excelling in all three, Michelle developed a very passionate and dramatic personality that eventually led her to more dramatic genres such as opera and stage acting. Her aptitude to understand human emotions and relationships gives her a wide spectrum to play in as an actress. There is an organic flow to her interpretations both as an actress and musician that leads the audience to feel her emotional current. Her honest characterizations introduce deeper perspectives on what seems like the ordinary roles and storylines. Amongst the many other leads that she has played, her participation in roles like “Susanna” in The Marriage of Figaro, or “Donna Elvira” in Don Giovanni embody much vibrancy and integrity.
Through the development of her voice as a singer and actress, she has crossed over into other media such as voice over commercial work and vocals for pop/main stream music productions. She has recently participated as a vocalist and violinist in the albums of artists such as international jazz pop artist David Longoria, Latin pop singer Erick Bolivar, Grammy-nominated percussionist Souhail Kaspar, and American Idol’s Seysha. Over the last few years she has unraveled her musical skills as a songwriter/composer/arranger and has even had some small victories acquiring music placements on TV shows (NCIS, short film “Sumtin’ Like Dat”, The Dictator) for herself and some of her colleagues. Her singing can also be heard on the hit tv show "Jane The Virgin", "Castle" and "Shameless" amongst others.

Michelle completed her Associates of Arts for Music/Music Education at the age of 18, and got later graduated Magna Cum Laude from the University of Miami with a Bachelor's of Arts for Musical Theater and Music Business, as well as from Florida International University with a Master's of Music in Vocal Performance.

I tailor my lessons to my student's needs, style, abilities, and goals. Learning is truly a fun and passionate adventure for me, and my enthusiasm has consistently been a contagious quality :) I love to challenge myself & my students to discover how immense their true potential is, and I create a safe and fun environment to explore such facets.

My curriculum is combination of solid tradition (Suzuki method for piano & violin, and Bel Canto technique for singing) interwoven with pop-culture, and modern influences. Within the first 3-6 months, my students will know the basic building blocks of music - which includes scales, arpeggios, triads, intervals, technique, and performance repertoire; and for my singers this will include proper breath technique, tone placement, support, very often increased vocal range (both high and low), and will feel significantly stronger vocally and more confident getting up to sing.

*** Studio Equipment ***
Full size Keyboard, mics, pro tools, Violin (electric, acoustic, and Chinese Ehru)

*** Specialties ***
Specialties include:
- Audition technique and prep
- Vocal Technique

All of my students learn to love playing violin first before getting into the nitty-gritty, which we do! My lessons are student-led, meaning, which ever level you are on is where we start and it's up to US to get you to the next level. Each week you will learn scales, exercises and performance repertoire. I have taught violin for 15 years and my students have excelled by moving up chairs in school, participating in honors orchestras and more!

About Amy

Without any musical training at age five my gut told me that I had the innate ability to understand music & that I would make music for the rest of my life. This thought has become my truth. It is this truth that drives me to inspire & teach others in cultivating their own musical truth. Some want music as a way a life & others are looking for an outlet, while others still only want music for themselves for fun. I believe I am equipped with the passion, drive & innovation to serve others in reaching their musical goals. Whether playing solo, in orchestras, chamber groups or bands, I like to incorporate all that I have learned through the years. My experience with strings began with bluegrass fiddling, followed by teaching myself to play guitar & then viola. In my spare time I like to write my own music & play with groups in which

I can improvise. Music has come to influence all areas of my life & what I have learned from my five-year-old-self is that it always will.

It was apparent in the first lesson that Susanna is an experienced, understanding, thorough, and patient teacher. She carefully covered all the basics: different parts of the violin, proper posture, finger positions, etc., making it easy for our daughter to get started on the violin. She corrected our daughter’s mistakes right away and moved on only when our daughter got a good grasp of the material.

Each lesson is tailored to the individual's unique technical needs and musical goals. I do not believe in any "one size fits all" approach, and instead draw inspiration from several pedagogues and methods to find the best fit for each student. While technique is a major emphasis, lessons are always fun and energetic. I have taught beginners through undergraduate music majors. While some of my students go on to major in music and study at major conservatories, others simply take lessons just for fun - to have a creative outlet, participate in orchestra, or simply enjoy music for its own sake. I enjoy teaching everyone, at every age and stage, no matter the reason!

About Nicole

I have been teaching privately for more than 15 years. In that time, I've taught at arts high schools, conservatories, colleges/universities, at music stores, and out of my home. I am active as a performer, and believe that it is critical for teachers to stay relevant in the field. I have performed all over the US, South America, Europe, and Asia in both chamber and solo recitals; have been a member or sub with professional symphonies and opera companies around the country; and regularly appear with famous artists from other genres. Recent highlights include Weird Al Yankovic, Henry Winkler, Seal, Styx, Johnny Mathis, and several of the Video Games Live traveling shows.
My real passion, however, is teaching! I currently teach 40 students in Frisco ISD, and several more at my home in Roanoke. Prior to moving to Texas, I ran the String

Project at Virginia Tech, where I had the sincere pleasure of shaping an engaging learning environment for 200 K-12 string players! I also founded the Radford Youth Strings, so that kids who were not able to travel for lessons still had the opportunity to participate in music.
I value the genuine friendships that I have built with my students and their families, and hope to add you to our community!

July 29, 2019
Nicole was a Godsend for my adolescent daughter when she started taking lessons with her at age 12. She had had a bad experience with a prior teacher and was losing her motivation to play and practice. Nicole was extremely kind, patient and encouraging yet held my daughter to very high standards. Due to her instruction, my daughter was able to play in some elite pre-professional chamber groups and recently was a prize winner at a Concerto competition. Nicole always had my daughter’s best interests at heart and went above and beyond to provide opportunities for her to excell at the instrument and feel confident about herself and her playing. I highly recommend Nicole for any level of player!

"A true professional and a great teacher! I have been taking violin lessons now for 6 months with Dr. Dimitri Olevsky, having switched to Dimitri after hav
ing had a mediocre experience with my previous teacher. Wow…what a difference. Dimitri ably blends his extensive knowledge, talent, and seriousness about his craft with a witty sense of humor. He is able to simplify the complexities of violin technique so that it is truly feels accessible. Highly recommended."

"I took up the violin at age 52 and am beginning my 4th year. Nikita is my 3rd teacher and I have been with him for the past 4 months. First of all he is a
very positive and upbeat person! He is helping me correct my body mechanics which is so important to having a good sound. He starts with the basics foundations and works with you until you achieve the goal. He has high expectations for his students and the techniques to bring about results. Every lesson you will receive lots of encouragement! I am super excited to be learning from this skilled teacher!"
"I took Violin lessons with Nader for about eight years, and I can confidently say that those eight years made me the musician that I am today. When I firs
t met with Nader, I could barely scratch out an elementary level piece. However, I do believe that I can now play any piece with the ability and technique I learned from Nader.
Each lesson consists of scales and arpeggios, scale studies, etudes, bow studies, and one or two pieces of music. Nader teaches with an emphasis on the fundamentals (scales, arpeggios, scale studies, etc.) so as to build the best foundation possible. As far as music goes, the pieces vary with respect to time period and style. Over the years I played and performed several Baroque pieces (Bach Sonatas and Partitas, Leclair Sonata) some Classical pieces (Mozart Violin Concerto) and many Romantic pieces (to name a few: Wienawski Violin Concerto, Debussy’s Claire De Lune, Brahms’ Hungarian Dance, Saint-Saens’ Introduction et. Rondo Capriccioso, Bruch Violin Concerto, Manuel de Falla’s Asturiana) and a few modern pieces (e.g. Barber’s Violin Concerto). For the beginning student, Nader usually chooses a few selections from the Suzuki books, although he doesn’t necessarily teach the Suzuki method. He will also incorporate sight singing (Melodia) and ear training into the lesson to ensure that the student develops and sharpens a proper musical ear.
Over the years I was introduced to and learned many of the important techniques associated with stringed instruments (e.g. vibrato, octaves, fingered octaves, double and triple stops, chords, artificial harmonics, Spicatto, Staccato (and other common bow manipulations), proper shifting between all positions, pizzicato, phrasing, etc.) He has an extensive knowledge of technique and composition which he uses to give the student the best education possible on the matter. Nader also makes sure the student understands that there is more to music than simply playing the notes. He teaches how to phrase and incorporate one’s own musicality into the piece. He also teaches the student about the culture and history surrounding the composer/piece that they are working on. This is not only informative, but also keeps one interested even if they find the piece difficult or frustrating.
There is an annual concert where all the students perform the pieces they had been working on with Nader. This is a fun event with a relaxed yet professional atmosphere where students can showcase their talent and technical improvement. I always enjoyed these concerts as they were a tangible reminder of my own improvement and achievements.
In retrospect, I found my lessons with Nader to be a very well-rounded experience. Not only did I learn how to play an instrument, but I learned how to be a musician. He is an awesome teacher and I cherish the time I spent learning from him; I wouldn't trade my experiences with Nader for anything. He always pushed me beyond what I thought I was capable of and I learned so much from that. He is a very amiable, patient, passionate, generous, and patient teacher, so don’t be afraid to call! Whether you are young or old, beginner or advanced, there is always more to learn. Let Nader be your next teacher!"
