Build a foundation of techniques to be able to play riffs, scales, chords and songs as quickly as possible. Build strength and dexterity through different patterns and have an overall understanding of how the instrument works and how to be creative with it.
Teaching drums professionally since 1998, Aaron has influenced hundreds of budding musicians to get the most from their instrument. He has studied privately with Rob Laytham (Modern Drummer columnist), Joe Leroux (marching band guru), Gary Chaffe (legendary drummer) and many others throughout the years. He has taken the best techniques and teaching styles from his influences and molded them together to form what he considers to be the most effective and inspiring method available.
I teach drum set in nearly every style and hybrid imaginable, as well as percussion and drum circle facilitation.
Accomplishments include recording 7 albums with various groups, touring with national acts across the west coast, drumming for the Warner Brothers Television house band, and still actively playing live shows and recording.

ils *** I put my focus on inspiring students to explore their own creativity with the tools and techniques that I give to them and nurture. I think it is very important to cover the basic skills that the school districts expect from their music students (sight reading, proper technique, note recognition, rudiments, timing, feel, etc.). I also feel it is important for a student to find his or her style and an ability to use the fundamentals to create music that they enjoy. He has written a method book based on the fundamentals of playing a rhythmic instrument with an emphasis on allowing the student to find their niche and lead a group through a piece of music or tastefully support it.
My studios are fully equipped with sound systems, the latest recording gear, acoustic and electric sets, hand drums and dozens of other percussion instruments. I believe that the more resources a person can draw from, be it intellectual or physical, the more fulfilling the learning experience will be.
Each lesson, my students will take at least a page of music that represents the concept that they are focusing on, and a goal set to accomplish by the end of the week so that they can build upon what they already know in an effort to put the big picture together. Ultimately the student will learn when and how to utilize the concepts that they are practicing.
*** Studio Equipment *** A Yamaha electronic drum set in my Mesa Studio allows me to control volume and dial up any sound imaginable. I have full acoustic drum sets in other studios that I use for recording and private lessons. Often I will integrate guitar, keyboard, or other instruments in to the lessons if needed.

Rock, Jazz, Latin, Swing, etc. Most of my students begin with concert and marching styles on a practice pad, then advance to the drum set. I teach note recognition and placement, rudiments, linear playing, moeller method, rhythm theory, sub-division of notes and time, and the sight-reading to support these techniques.

These are skills that all the best musicians have. That, along with some study of ukulele basics will provide a foundation for us to approach the kind of music that inspired you to look up a uk teacher. My mission is to provide a positive musical experience for all students. For some this includes rigorous preparation for an audition of some kind, for others it may be an introduction to music fundamentals to foster better listening skills and greater artistic appreciation. All students will be challenged to improve their listening, timing, and technique. All students will learn to play songs that they love.
Students get a minimum of one lesson per week. I am not able to schedule lessons every other week.
Recommendations for best results: 1. Make a three-month commitment to weekly lessons. 2. Practice at least three times a week, for a minimum of 15 minutes each time. This formula virtually guarantees results. Bring your instrument, music books, and a binder with sheet protectors ☺
*Scheduling policies: No Cancellations. If the student is unable to attend a lesson as scheduled I will use the time to email a video lesson to the student. Other alternatives: online lesson, reschedule, add time to next lesson (based on availability). Students may put lessons on hold up to once per quarter with at least one week notice.
To continue weekly lessons, students must maintain at least 90% attendance or the time slot may be forfeited.
Jordan was born and raised in the El Centro, California where he began playing the alto sax in the elementary band program. At the age of 12, he began his study of guitar and drums, performing in several rock and ska bands around his home town and San Diego. At age 14, is where he found his love for brass instruments when he took up the trombone. While in high school he became a soloist with the Imperial Valley College Jazz Orchestra, under the direction of former Basie trumpeter Jimmy Cannon. That lead Jordan to accept the Constance Weldon Music Scholarship to attend the University of Miami in Coral Gables, FL.
While performing in South Florida Jordan appeared with major acts including 10,000 Maniacs, and appeared on the Spanish television show "Calle Ocho." He also gained invaluable experience teaching in Miami public schools. His first teaching assignment was at Hialeah-Miami Lakes Senior High School where he directed 3 beginning bands, Concert Band, Wind Ensemble, and their highly decorated Jazz Band. Later Jordan moved into the elementary setting, teaching vocal and instrumental music for grades K-5 at Cypress Elementary.
In 2007, Jordan returned to California to pursue a music career in San Diego. He can be seen performing all over San Diego, Orange, and LA Counties in styles ranging from rock, jazz, funk, blues, hip-hop, Latin, and more. He performs primarily on trombone, piano, and guitar, but is known to pick up percussion, harmonica, and other wind instruments as well. In 2011, Tori Roze & The Hot Mess were nominated for a San Diego Music Award in the category of "Best Blues Artist" after the release of their first album "From The Hip." They released their second album "Turbulence" last December, and are heard regularly on local San Diego radio. This album has also been nominated for Best Pop album for the 2013 San Diego Music Awards. In 2013, Jordan completed his Master of Music degree in Jazz Studies from San Diego State University.
On stage, Jordan is a talented and versatile performer. He is known for his trombone sound and improvisational ability, as well as his positive relationship with his fellow musicians. In lessons, Jordan is energetic and creative.

David discovered his love for music early on at the age of seven with the musical/movie: The Sound of Music. He and his siblings would entertain their babysitter by acting out the entire musical - singing and dancing along with the soundtrack. To make it even more fun, they would sometimes speed up the vinyl record and perform in extra-fast mode!
He vividly remembers his first real musical instruction back in elementary school: “Everyone in 4th Grade was given a Recorder to learn how to play 'Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star'. When the music teacher had the class play together, she noticed that I wasn't looking down at my music booklet as I played, since I was 'playing by ear'. Not only was my booklet turned to the wrong page; it was upside down as well! To admonish me, she had me stand up in front of the whole class and play
solo - as she held the booklet in front of me. Enthusiastically, I rendered the complete song correctly, only pretending to read from the page as she held it, but actually 'playing by ear'. Upon getting to the end of the tune, I suddenly broke out in a jazzed-up, improvised version of 'Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star', arousing the whole class to spontaneously tap their feet in rhythm and clap with delight . . . my first solo performance!”
David eventually took up guitar in his teens, becoming involved with playing for musicals such as "Godspell" and "Jesus Christ Superstar". During high school, he also played in the Bluegrass band 'Odell & Zeke', and in the Rock band 'Ring Wraith', performing for local dances and proms.
Extremely versatile within classical and popular guitar styles, David played in the Top-40-Hit music video, Shine Shine, by The Bee Gees' Barry Gibb – alongside pop-star legend - Michael Jackson. David is also mentioned in Just Jazz Guitar Magazine for his jazz endeavors; and he has years of experience as a church music director.
As a Classical concert guitarist, David has performed throughout the USA and Europe. His live performances have been broadcast on television and radio: NPR’s Performance Today (USA); CBC’s Arts National (Canada); RAI Television’s In Concerto (Italy), and the Hungarian National Television. Successful in competitions, David won First Prize in the 20th International Guitar Competition in Milan, Italy and First Prize in the National Wurlitzer Artist Competition, USA. He has received other awards and grants as well, including a Solo Recitalist Grant from the National Endowment for the Arts, and the Governor's Award from Department of State, Florida. Moreover, he was chosen for the rosters of both the California State Touring Program and the North Carolina Visiting Artists Program.
David’s 35 years of teaching and performing experience, coupled with intensive years of formal studies with many of the world's greatest guitarists, including Andres Segovia, Eliot Fisk, David Russell, Christopher Parkening, Holzman, Ghiglia, Morgen, Tomas, Isbin - have afforded him a rich and in-depth understanding of music and the guitar. He shares all of this with his students in an insightful and uniquely original manner.

David was very knowledgeable about music and made it easy to understand. This was especially important to me since I am starting new, not having any musical background other than a love for music and a passion to play. This instructor helped me realize I have potential which is also important. Robert has been teaching my 11-year old son electric guitar for the last few months and has done a brilliant job. My son loves his lessons and is inspired to practice and learn more. Robert is amazing! He is remarkably patient, encouraging, thoughtful, and generous. He is also quick to think of all kinds of fixes to advance your progress. He wears his encyclopedic knowledge lightly, and his lessons are always fun. I would recommend him with great enthusiasm for any stringed instrument!
I learned from some great musicians out west that the ukulele can be really fun and have more range of notes too when tuned GDAE as a violin would be tuned. Ever since I learned that I have loved playing the ukulele and also have fun helping others to become well versed in playing many styles of music on there. One can play rhythm, melodies, improvise, write songs, play almost any style of music on a ukulele.
I have a Masters in Education as well as having spent many years performing, teaching in one on one and group settings both privately and at music camps and festivals. I play and teach bluegrass, old time, Irish, and swing jazz styles. I like my students to really enjoy playing music and their lessons as well as learning to become fluent in the language of music. It is not required that folks learn to read music necessarily, but it can be a part of the lessons if desired. I love to see my students able to continue learning and playing on their own, be able to hold their own at jams and on the stage is they so desire, or just enjoy making music for themselves. I have techniques that have proven effective to help get past jam phobia, that help folks learn to improvise who have not had any luck with doing so before, and help getting away fro
m sheet music addictions to be able to have fun and confidence out at jams. I also can give a good foundation in music theory as it applies to one's actual playing and have it be fun and make sense.
I like to cater the lessons to the student, so it all depends on what you want to get out of it! I will happily spend the time teaching you how to play your favorite songs, give you different techniques for different styles of playing, or dive into the endless depths of music theory which can lead to all new levels of learning possibilities!
