About Kevin

My approach to teaching has a very heavy emphasis on implementing the idea of mindfulness into the students life. I have found that this is not only the quickest way to learn, but also the most motivating way to learn any skill for both my students and myself. A simple awareness of the finite deta

Very knowledgeable. I liked being educated or informed about the process of my son's lesson before and after.

After 30 years I finally decided to learn how to play drums. Kevin clearly knows what he's doing in any genre of drumming! It seemed like every lesson he had a clear/thorough plan, didn't stress me out by teaching to rapidly, or bore me by going to slowly. A very solid teacher.

Been trying to get my middle-schooler to practice for a few years now. It's like pulling teeth.

Kevin has somehow broken through to him. Fun lessons. Incredibly useful homework. Couldn't recommend him more.

Awesome teacher! Not just a great drummer, but patient and articulate. He was really able to help me understand and execute in ways I never could before. Seems like he would also be great with kids...super patient and encouraging!
Janna R.
David is a very skilled drummer and a very enthusiastic teacher. In lessons, he seems to like to split time between practicing rudiments and learning to play different rhythms on the set. He is also exceptionally patient and supportive with my 9-year-old, highly distractible daughter. David is very positive, pointing out things that are going well and interesting rhythms that they discover. I am really glad we found David--he is an excellent teacher and I love watching my daughter learn so much about music!

I have been literally to 4 youtube teachers and though I have nothing bad to say about any of them, i know that I need a long term teacher that I can see myself growing with as a singer. Our personalities just meshed. She knows how to make one feel comfortable. She is very encouraging to students with zero self confidence like me. I think I have found the teacher I’ve been looking for in Elena! i’m excited to see what she can do to transform my voice. Her resume as well as her reviews( students spoke highly of her character) are what stood out for me out of thousands of teachers online! It is also important that I love to listen to my teacher’s voice and i love her voice😊

About Ian

I started playing guitar originally in 1991. I picked up bass and ukulele (and then over the ensuing years, gradually a plethora of other instruments, such as voice, drums, piano, and harp). I started teaching in 2001 throughout the Chicagoland area. First in music stores, then schools, then people

I have taken guitar lessons in the past and wanted to revisit one of my passions again. I decided to take lessons with Ian since he is in my neighborhood and I’m really glad I did. Ian has been very patient and attentive to my learning style. As our lessons have progressed so has the direction of each class. It’s really cool to see how all the concepts we have gone over build on each other. I feel like Ian really goes above and beyond to learn about his students and what they are hoping to achieve. Ian has also been very flexible with my work schedule. After several months of lessons with Ian I can say I’ve learned several things from finger picking, timing, and reading notes. I can’t wait to continue my journey!

I wish I could leave a review on his teaching but unfortunately, I couldn't even experience his teaching prowess. I gifted 5 in-home guitar lessons to my fiance as a birthday present. After speaking to Takelesson representatives I was told that we were in Ian's in home radius. Ian did not teach my fiance because he did not find "parking", which felt like a little bit of an unreasonable answer. When my fiance asked to be taught on weekdays he declined that too and instead offered online classes. The point of in-home is flexibility and 1:1 attention and we were disappointed that we could not have that opportunity due to how unaccommodating it felt. Would like to leave feedback to both Ian and Takelessons to include these nuances as customers are often really excited only to be let down.
Jen K.
Ian is an incredible teacher. Very patient and professional. The way he teaches is very straight forward and easy to understand. I can’t wait to learn more & more... less than a week has passed since my lesson. I already feel so comfortable with my ukulele,
All the utube lessons were useless for me. I realized this after 1 lesson with Ian. The frustration factor on utube was a waste of time for me. I am so happy I chose ian & this company.
Thank you so much, jen

"Karen’s recitals, showcasing 6 to 12 students each time, always thrill
me. Men, women, boys, & girls of all ages and various degrees of
achievement stand before their audience with confidence. They have
practiced, not only the pieces which they play, but showmanship, not
pushy or cocky, but polite and welcoming. They make eye contact and
smile; some invite the crowd to sing along on the choruses. Even the
1st year students exude confidence.

The crowd returns those smiles, along with cheers and clapping. One
can tell that Karen has kindly and persistently shown and encouraged
each student. If any show fear, she does not chide; she accompanies
them in the performance and nods approval as they continue. I watch
that fear subside. They are then met with handshakes and pats on the
back. Next time, they will be even more eager to share the pieces that
they worked on and not expect criticism.

Karen picks a theme and arranges guitar, piano, and voice selections,
intermingled into a program that leaves a person well entertained and
planning to come back next time. I am not related to any of the
participants and have no obligation to be at the recitals. I love the
music, the talent, and the progress that I see and hear. You, too,
will be glad you came."

Have your questions and goals ready to tell him, and he will give you exactly what you need to sound better. He is very intuitive and understanding, and he will use every minute of your time efficiently with practical exercises that work. He was also very responsible, dependable, easy to reach and punctual. "I played in the Advent Band with Vandi as our worship leader for several years. Her energy and enthusiasm was contagious and she always provided positive, constructive criticism. Vandi's knowledge of music theory was demonstrated in her ability to arrange our songs to suit the various skill levels of the band members and the congregation! This is not an easy task and she handled it with ease and grace. I would highly recommend her as an instructor."

"Coren is not only an amazing vocal coach, shes an amazing human being. I started with Coren as a very timid, cautious singer and now I perform all over Las Vegas and I love what I do! I was afraid that my voice could not improve and that I would never have the power and freedom in my voice that i've always wanted but with some patience and hard work Coren got me there! no matter what type of learner you are, Coren has a technique that will work for you. The first time I sat in on my boyfriend's lesson and I heard how much he had improved I was blown away and I knew I wanted to take lessons. Coren teaches you that everyone can sing and its just a matter of training the muscles you need to do it! For me, thinking about it that way made it a lot less intimidating. She teaches everyone from the kiddos and beginners (she loves kids and they love her!) to the grown ups and pros! No matter how hard i've been on myself coren has never given up on me and I can now say I am not afraid to dream because I know it is possible! I've been with Coren for almost 5 years and for as long as i'm singing she'll be where I stay! If you're serious about singing, Coren will get you wherever you want to go! Thank you for everything Coren!"
