I love to teach and have taught many hundreds of students over the past twenty years. Many of my students have gone on to professional careers in the music field. I am primarily trained in classical guitar and I also teach rock, folk, finger-style and jazz basics. I strive to help students deepen their love of music and to form a connection through that. Experience has shown me that all development as a musician arises from these factors. I look forward to meeting and having fun together!

About Roger
I love teaching! I love connecting with people to find out what inspires them and I feel that I learn as much from my students as I teach them.

I have over 25 years of playing experience in a variety of styles and nearly 20 years of experience teaching the guitar to many hundreds students of all ages and backgrounds. I have taught in many different situations, including through schools, music stores and privately. I am primarily trained as a classical guitarist and I hold a Master of Music Degree in Guitar Performance from The Peabody Conservatory of The Johns Hopkins University. I have been told by many of my students that I am patient, understanding, very approachable and fun.

Whatever our goals may be in learning to play a musical instrument, the experience and skills we gain in doing so can serve us in every area of our li
ves.

Music is for me a journey of self-discovery. I would love to share in and be a guide on your journey too!

Roger was my first guitar teacher, and one of the best teachers that I've had the pleasure to work with. As a professional guitarist, I have had the chance to look back on when I was studying with Roger and compare my opinion now to the opinion I had while I was studying with him. My opinion now is the same as it was back then: Roger is an exceptionally capable and talented educator. He is very easy to work with and is always flexible in each lesson. Flexibility is important; an ideal teacher will have lesson plans with specific skills that he/she feels the student needs to learn, but they will also allow the student's current interests to guide the lessons. Roger was always happy to address any questions or concerns I had, but also made sure to guide my attention to critical skills that helped me grow as a musician. One such skill is proper technique, which is necessary for improving the student's ability to play and for preventing injury. With his background as a classical guitarist, Roger was able to teach me perfect left and right hand technique, which is something I still consider to be one of my strongest assets as a guitarist. His skills and interests extend far beyond classical guitar into genres like rock and jazz. In our lessons we would work on just about anything. We covered topics and styles like Jimi Hendrix, Led Zeppelin, Wes Montgomery, improvisation, James Taylor's fingerstyle playing, music theory, and sight reading. Overall, I found Roger to be an ideal teacher for students at any skill level, from total beginners to those who are highly experienced.

Roger taught guitar lessons to my son Jeffery for 7 years (starting from age 7). Roger is very competent in teaching all ages and making sure the lessons were age appropriate and interesting.

Jeffery really looked forward to weekly lessons with Roger which were only discontinued because we relocated out of state. Roger was not only a teacher but also a mentor to Jeffery, allowing my son to explore all genres of music and methods.

Roger is classically trained and teaches his students to read music and is knowledgeable and offers up to date music lessons.

My son is now in college and taking a music major. I am truly convincined that Roger's influence and care helped grow Jeffery's natural interest in music. I would highly recommend Roger for music lessons. He is a gifted teacher.

I love teaching music! I have been a professional guitar instructor for over 8 years. Through attentive one on one instruction I develop a program to suit the player's goals. I emphasize technique with drills designed to raise my students' skills evenly across a wide range of categories, like picking, fretting, scale patterns, chord shapes, chord progressions, rhythm training, and ear training. I can guide a complete beginner toward being able to play songs and have fun. For the more serious student I have a plan that will make you a better player and musician guaranteed.

About Benjamin
I discovered music sifting through my Dad's record collection and soon decided that I wanted to play guitar. As a teenager I began taking lessons and building confidence in my abilities. I played in different types of bands ranging from rock, country, blues, and jazz. After completing College in 2004, I realized music was not just going to be a hobby, but a career. At age 35, I have been teaching and playing guitar professionally for the last 11 years. I believe that anybody can learn to play as long as they are patient and understand that anything worthwhile takes time and sustained effort to achieve. You also need a good teacher who understands how to take you where you want to go musically. I have taught hundreds of different students of all ages and abilities. I have seen many of them grow musically and gain confidence in other
areas of their lives as a result. I aim to inspire every student to find their way to a rewarding life through music.

*** Lesson Details ***
My lesson plans are developed on an individual basis. I want you to learn the music that inspires your passion. If the guitar is new to you, the first lessons are devoted to basic playing skills and techniques. It is important to develop a strong understanding of music fundamentals to ensure that the student is attaining the skills they need to be a complete musician. I emphasize technique with drills designed to raise my students' skills evenly across a wide range of categories, like picking, fretting, scale patterns, chord shapes, rhythm training, and ear training. I have had success with many students using this approach and most are playing songs within a couple months. For the more serious student, music theory is an important tool to understand songwriting and music in general. I am always open to discuss what we do during a lesson. I believe it is my job to balance what you want to do with what you need to do in order to succeed.

*** Travel Equipment ***
I have amps, guitars, 1/4 inch cables, tuners, metronomes, paper and pens.
Would like students to have all these things but can accommodate based on need.

*** Specialties ***
Rock, Pop, Blues, Country, flat-picking, finger-style

I must say that Benjamin was great. I come from no musical background and had zero knowledge. Benjamin made me feel relaxed and broke down the sessions in an easy way so that I could understand the concept of what we were trying to accomplish. I combine the styles of music that you prefer with some kind of method book for reading and theory. No purchasing of music is required. Normal lessons start with the previously assigned material, determining what we need to work on, new material, and ending with things to do at home.

About Sean
Hi! I'm Sean. I love music and one of my goals in life is to share my love of music with everyone else, in a number of different ways. I am an active freelance composer, guitarist, and teacher in Baltimore City, and I'm currently seeking an MM in Composition at Peabody. I play a wide range of styles - fingerstyle, classical, rock, jazz, metal, and just about everything in between!

I strive to have all of my students become balanced musicians. If reading or theory is a soft spot, we'll apply your strengths and catch up quickly. I also think that being interested in the music that you're playing is incredibly important when learning an instrument. I try to incorporate your favorite styles of music to learn techniques that will benefit you to not only become what you want to be as a musician, but have the skill to do or play whatever you
want if your preferences change. As far as music teachers go, I'd like to think of myself as pretty laid back. I understand that most people have lives outside of music, so we'll go at a pace that is most comfortable for you.

Great first lesson. High hopes for follow lessons.

I self-taught myself guitar over 35 years ago; mostly forgotten. Sean began with establishing goals that would meet my goals. The feedback to me during the lessons was focused and delivered in a friendly manner. Progression was enhanced due to his manner and his approach to teaching. While this was the first lesson, I am looking forward to future lessons.

The most important thing to me is to keep the student interested and engaged in the lessons. This way learning guitar is easy and fun, not a struggle. A great place to start is by learning songs you enjoy listening to. Then later moving on, applying theory and scales to the songs we have learned.

About Sam
Hi!
I'm a recent graduate of Berklee College of music where I majored in professional music. This included music theory and guitar instruction, as well as reading and writing music notation and charts in different styles. I also play frequently around the DC area, including shows at The Howard Theater, Shamrockfest, The Black Cat, The Bullpen at Nats Park and Gaylord National resort.
For the past three years I have been teaching guitar lessons to student of all ages, with excellent results! I always keep the students interested by teaching songs they are excited to learn, while also making sure that they continue to grow as a guitarist and musician. Lessons can be in Rock, Jazz, or Pop styles, and on acoustic or electric guitar. Music theory is included to the extent that the student and/or parents are interested. Lessons can be at my h
ouse or yours.
Thanks!

Great teacher. Very quick with knowledge of theory, and how to practically apply it to guitar, calm demeanor, information dense lessons with the ability to slow it down/break it down to more and more granular levels as needed.
When I take content home from the lessons, I feel like i'm on a clear track towards my lesson goals including a vision of where i'm headed, and why the things I received in that lessons are going to be directly responsible for getting me there, if practiced diligently.
Good stuff.

Max has been playing music his whole life, and teaching since 2006. Although recent students have been accepted into music programs around the country, including NYU, Peabody, Indiana, Maryland, and Miami, he loves to work with students of all ages, skill-levels, and ambitions. Max holds a BA in Music: Vocal Performance, but also teaches and plays guitar, bass, brass, and keys. He also regularly works with students on instruments that he doesn't personally play, to coach theory and musicality. Each lesson is individually tailored to the student, since everyone learns differently and has different goals (which frequently change!). Consequently, method books are only used as necessary. Max's goal is to help unlock every student's musical potential and path to personal expression!

Max also performs around the country as a professional singer and session musician, in addition to running a mobile recording business. He also composes music for film. Sharing music with others is his

About Max
Come learn a first, second, or even third instrument! In addition to voice, Max specializes in multi-instrumentalism and fluency between genres. Many of Max's students learn at least two instruments, and for very good reason! Learning multiple instruments (and styles/genres) increases one's musical ability and understanding of the big picture in ways that a single focus simply can't. It's comparable to learning multiple languages. There's also time and a place to buckle down on technique and to focus on one thing exclusively, and Max is mindful of this as well. In his lessons, he creates new exercises to address each student's specific needs and keeps the focus narrow enough to avoid a distracting information overload.

Most importantly, Max teaches through questions, in the spirit of "teach a man to fish...." This allows students
to gain a degree of self sufficiency and an appetite for discovery. Lessons are fun, personal, efficient (and at times, just inefficient enough to feel comfy), and relaxed. Max's teaching space features classic instruments and amps, including a vintage Fender Rhodes, and a full featured recording studio. It's a perfect environment for learning and creativity, and it's also a short walk to all of Hampden's best shops and restaurants.

Outside of teaching, Max actively performs as a classical/early music singer, and does regular session work on vocals, bass, guitar, trumpet, and keys. He also composes for film, and runs a mobile recording business specializing in classical, acoustic, and jazz. His work has taken him both around the country and overseas.

I've had a love for the guitar for as long as I can remember! For the last few years I have had the opportunity to teach guitar to many people who have had different levels of exposure to the instrument. The main goal is to help my students fall in love with the music that they're creating while excelling beyond their own expectations. It can be scary to learn something new, but learning guitar can also be very fun and rewarding! Send me a message and lets make some music!

About Zachary
Music has been the love of my life for as long as I can remember. I believe it has the power to move people. I've been playing drums and percussion for 10 years and have received training from a number of professionals, such as Clyde Connor and Scott Wilson at the University of Florida, where I also studied Music Education. During my tenure at UF, I was the drummer for the Big Band, Jazz combo, and the symphonic band.

Currently, I am a drummer, percussionist, guitarist, pianist, and vocalist. I am more than willing and able to teach students on any of these instruments regardless of your level of experience. For several years I played in many venues around the North Central Florida area with various bands whose genres included jazz, funk, country, rock, and soul. I have also had many years of experience playing for contemporary Christi
an music services.

I am very friendly and flexible to the needs of the student, while making music fun and educational.

Relaxed, fun atmosphere. Focus on your learning style, your needs and goals as a musician.

About Joe
I am new to teaching and other than teaching my own children and a few relatives and friends, this will be my first experience teaching others. There are many many resources available for me as a new teacher and I have been utilizing them to the fullest in preparation for my first group of students. I excel at educating myself and have been brushing up on my music theory, piano skills, and different methods of teaching the guitar in an effort to bring you the best experience possible. The most important thing I've learned to date is that "the more you know, the more you don't know." and the great Aristotle realized that many many years ago. can also design and build them.
I have raised two children on music and what I have found from both of them is that if it's not fun and interesting, you lose them quickly. I personally was lucky enough
to have a balance of teachers, some of which were by the book, classically trained, learn your scales, know your theory, etc. And others, such as one of my all time favorites would let me bring in cassette tapes to our lessons and we would just figure the songs out that I wanted to learn. I intend on figuring out very quickly where you are as a student and what you want to learn as well as how you learn the best. But more important than anything is whatever we are learning, and we will be learning together, practice is key. There is no progress without practice, that means younger students will be required to practice 15 minutes a day, and older students are expected to practice 30 minutes or more.
I think learning the instrument has to be fun and engaging. But also has to focus on proven methods and especially a foundation in music theory. We will learn, key signatures, music notation, major and minor scales, intervals, etc. to form a solid foundation. But we are also going to throw in songs you know to reinforce important concepts. Most importantly we will apply the three P rule. Practice Practice Practice. There is no substitute and you must make a commitment to yourself that you will find the time EVERY day for practice.
