Karen is so friendly, sweet, and methodical in teaching style. It is wonderful to be introduced to dulcimer with her and - literally - learn how to fine tune my instrument with her tips and encouragement. She makes me even more excited to tune and play my instrument. I can easily get happily lost simply in the tuning process with my dulcimer as it brings me a lot of joy just to hear the notes come into tune and playing very small, minor amounts of things on my dulcimer as is... it is so nice to have a guide like Karen to help me better to understand and dance with my dulcimer, learn about music and how the dulcimer strings are arranged, and how to hold the hammers! I thought I was excited to learn before... I'm even more happy and excited now and have some clear, down to earth steps to begin to actually really play with my instrument!

I use the Faber method books for children including the Lesson, Theory & Performance books which all work together to introduce and reinforce musical concepts. I follow the student's interest is specific genres of classical, jazz, blues or pop and add pieces from those genres that students will find interesting and exciting.

For teens & adults, I generally use an all-in-one method book and then allow students to choose what pieces they'd like to work on, or suggest pieces based on the style of music that student prefers

For younger children just starting out, I implement early childhood techniques to include creative movement and percussion instruments. These enhance and reinforce the musical elements we are working on in piano. They also extend the attention span and infuse the lesson with a sense of action and fun.

Rachel has taught our son since first grade; he's now in third. She's tailored lessons to his musical taste (the Beatles) while providing a strong foundation on which to build. She's been very flexible and accommodating throughout the switch from in-person to remote lessons, and he really enjoys the time with her. Knowing that so many kids are motivated by short-term goals, she's planned even more recitals during this remote time than when they were solely in-person, and that's been a great motivator for our son to practice.

DO NOT BOOK WITH RACHEL PANAY RAZIEL
It is with deep regret that I have to report that Rachel was clearly INTOXICATED during her lessons with my children today (ages 14 & 11). We will not be using Take Lessons again. There is no way an app can sufficiently vet all these teachers. Please don’t put your children in danger and learn this lesson the hard way like we didi.

Rachel is a great teacher for my 12 year old child. Rachel builds her confidence and meets her exactly where she is at. I highly recommend her.

"I needed last minute coaching for an upcoming audition and was feeling unprepared and frazzled. Chelsea easily knew what I needed. She made recommendations, was wonderfully engaging, and her insight and ear highlighted some important tweaks that I would have overlooked in my haste to prepare. After just one session I felt clearer, calmer, and considerably more confident. Bonus: Chelsea is incredibly kind, fun to work with and makes you feel you already know one another. Chelsea has my highest recommendation"

"Wonderful teacher

Kelvin has been an excellent instructor for our daughter. He is articulate in a friendly and informative way. She enjoys her online lessons with Kelvin and has improved her technique within months. He has discovered and adjusted the unhelpful habits that she has developed over years of study. The improved quality of her playing has not only lifted her confidence and inspired her to keep practicing, but it has been recognized by other instructors as well.

"I absolutely loved working with Jameson. The greatest skill I gained from his lessons was confidence in my voice. I felt that he really wanted to get to know me, my voice, and my goals in singing. I primarily went to him for help on musical theater auditions, and after working with him, I began getting more callbacks. He coached me on my singing, as well as how to be more expressive in my singing. His energy and enthusiasm made me comfortable to try things like belting higher or attempting riffs, expanding my skills as a singer. In lessons, Jameson combines professional training and technique with personal tips, making each lesson more effective and memorable. His enthusiasm makes every lesson both fun and worthwhile. His critiques are always paired with genuine encouragement. For new or experienced singers, Jameson has valuable insight."

"Dwight Anderson was a fabulous cello teacher for my son from preschool through high school. He was, in fact, the best music teacher we ever had for either of my children - through all of their piano, violin and cello instruction. He was consistent and nurturing, able to push the boundaries of expectation, and able to inspire. Although he only taught my son, he influenced my daughter as well by encouraging them to both participate in the GDYO. He was masterful in choosing certain pieces of work that inspired my son to practice and to perform. Even though he certainly assigned scales and etudes, he always allowed him at least one piece of his choosing that gave him such a sense of accomplishment. For example, my son learned to play the prelude of the Bach suite in G even before he started the 1st grade. That is still his favorite piece! And, starting around 7th or 8th grade, he let his pick which "big work" they would tackle for the following year. We went through the Lalo cello concerto, Faure's Elegie, the Saint-Saens concerto, Popper's Hungarian Rhapsody, Dvorak's Rondo, and finally, "The Dvorak", for his senior project in high school. Even though my son didn't always learn all the movements of the concerto or learn it to perfection, Dwight's partnership with my son in picking these pieces gave him such a love of playing the cello! What a wonder and a gift!
In the years since high school, Dwight has kept up with my son, even though he chose a non-music career path and a life in the north east. We will be forever grateful for Dwight and the influence he has had on my son in particular, and, for his influence on the whole family for deepening our appreciation of beautiful music. Thank you, Dwight!"
