Chuck recently moved to Portland, Oregon from Gainesville, Florida, where he was a staple of the music teaching and performing community for more than 25 years. Originally from Chicago, Chuck completed his BA in Music History and Masters of Music (MM) at the University of Florida. Chuck became obsessed with The Beatles when he began piano lessons at age 12. His first attempt at composing was actually improvising melodies over the ending chords to "Hey Jude". Along with playing Beatles tunes Chuck learned classic standards from a set of Reader's Digest Songbooks inherited from his grandmother. Chuck has performed with classic rock, top 40, funk, R&B, and jazz groups, and has served as an opening act for Bela Fleck and the Flecktones, and legendary Texas bluesman Clarence ...

I have been playing bass and guitar for many years, ten of those years professionally. However, I have a real passion for the little ukulele. Most people just teach a few chords on the ukulele so students can sing a few simple songs. I prefer to teach more challenging instrumental compositions aimed toward performance, for which the ukulele is very well suited. But I will teach you some pop songs, too, and whatever musical style you enjoy playing. Come join me!
I began my professional career right out of high school working as a musician. I played bass guitar and upright bass professionally for about ten years. I played mostly rock, country rock, and jazz. I started learning Chinese martial arts and yoga about 35 years ago. I studied East Asian Languages in college, and I ended up living in Taiwan for 10 years. I starting teaching English (ESL) in Taiwan and worked myself up to the position academic director for a chain of language schools. I also continued to study Chinese martial arts, specializing in the soft arts of Tai Chi and Ba Gua. After returning to the U.S., I managed several ESL programs at the college level. I also began teaching Tai Chi, Ba Gua, and Self-Defense courses, and I have now published two books on the subject. I remain a ...

I’ve taught private guitar lessons for about 7 years now in addition to working with children at the Shady Hill School and YMCA Camp Chickami and if there’s anything I’ve learnt it’s that teaching is about understanding individuals and building connections. I have a wide variety of musical experiences outside of teaching as well; I’ve studied at Berklee College of Music, achieved a Bachelors of Music Degree from New York University, played guitar in jazz and rock bands, had my classical compositions performed in Europe, worked at recording studios and sound design companies and scored films admitted to prestigious film festivals such as the Student Academy Awards and the Chicago Film Festival. I'm a very personable and down to earth person and I'd love to talk and get to you know ...
