I began playing drums 15 years ago and since then have played drums in a variety of settings. I am comfortable with technique of a wide variety of genres and know how to write drum notation

About Michael
I am a classically trained and professional musician who has worn many different musical hats over the years. I began playing drums when I was 14, in Houston, TX with Craig LeMay, and since then I have learned many different string and world instruments. I studied music theory and vocal performance at the Florence University of the Arts in Italy, taken sitar lessons from Mita Nag in Kolkatta, India, and jazz performance in Austin, TX with Joey Colarusso. I have played in many different bands over the years, such as accompanying Michael Kiwanuka with the musical saw, accompanying Katie Sachs with the musical saw, playing bass guitar with Halaska and DJing private events with Spacecraft Entertainment. I have been teaching music to special education students, in Austin public schools, and foster children with Kids in a New Groove. I have als
o built and modified many of my own instruments and ready to teach you some quirky musical production skills as well. I believe listening and being adaptable to an individual student's needs are the keys to teaching anyone to express themselves through music.

After studying Spanish for 2 years at the university level and extensive travel to Latin America I am fluent in Spanish in both the academic and conversational sides of the language.

Highly recommended.

My 8 year old daughter took piano lessons from Michael and she really enjoyed learning the basics in fun ways. He was VERY patient and able to meet her where she was at, but still knew how to challenge her. I would recommend Michael to any beginner level piano player!

Really good teacher. I had never played piano before and Michael was great at instantly giving me things to work on and gave off the impression that lessons were tailored to what I was interested in and the direction I personally wanted to go with the piano. I'd definitely recommend him to anyone else looking for a good instructor in piano or any other musical instrument he works with.

I've played/taught drums for 40+ years! If you have experience I will listen to you play during your first lesson and create a custom practice routine to help sharpen your skills. If you are a total beginner I'll cover all the basics in a few lessons and get you playing songs quickly. I specialize in rock but teach most styles. I use "Stick Control for the Snare Drummer" and other books as needed, and we will use my electronic drum kit. Your lessons will be fun, challenging, and inspiring!

About Andy
I have been playing drums and mountain dulcimer since the late sixties. My musical background is in rock but I am comfortable playing and teaching most styles of popular music. I've done a fair amount of recording and have performed in every kind of venue, from private parties to concert situations where the band I was in opened for national touring acts. I'm an encouraging teacher, and I especially like working with beginners (of any age - you are never too old to learn to play an instrument). If you have played before, I can listen to you play and suggest a custom practice routine to address and strengthen any weaknesses. Learning should be fun, so I encourage my students to begin playing songs they like as soon as possible in addition to building their skills. Click the green button to request a lesson!

Having performed jazz, funk, rock, pop, blues, and Brazilian fusion, among other genres, I use the fluidity between these inform each of my lessons. Whether a student is a beginner looking to play their favorite song on the radio, an intermediate looking for some rhythm theory to give them more options in their playing, or an advanced player looking for improvisatory techniques, I tailor each session to the desires of each student and their learning style.

About Daniel
I'm a gigging musician and teacher who graduated from Oberlin College in May 2015 with a degree in Musical Studies and Physics. I was on the Division III tennis team there for two years as well. I pride myself on patience and empathy no matter what I teach, whether it feeling the pulse of a complicated drum groove or solving a challenging physics word problem. For music lessons, I strive to bring in a context of genre fluidity and history, so that a student knows where and what to explore on their own even when I am not in the room to show them. Overall, my teaching is all about inspiring students to do well and make their strengths work for them, rather than dryly coming up with the "right answer" or playing a tune the "right way" to get from point A to point B.

I make sure all my students play with proper technique and dynamics. You will learn how to play to a metronome, read music and rhythms, play with your favorite songs, and improvise your grooves while playing with other instruments. I teach many various genres of music including those with odd signatures, polyrhythms, and double kick patterns. Over time, you will learn to play like the professionals that inspire you.

About Dennis
I have been playing drums since I was 9 and have been teaching for 4 years. I currently play in a professional band in the bay area. I specialize in many genres and odd signatures. I make sure that every one of my students understand and play with proper technique and dynamics to perform like the professionals. I teach how to read music, play various types of rhythms, play to a metronome, and play along to any of your favorite songs. I will often times play another instrument with my students to give them an understanding of what it is like to play in a band setting. I also offer group lessons where multiple students learn to play different instruments together to make music.

My teaching style is very flexible & hands on. My goal is to make beautiful music and I do this by taking technical exercises and giving them musical meaning. This means I focus on the ideas of time, vocabulary & dynamic playings, but within this still teaching essential technical exercises in order to create a well-rounded musician.

About Ross
I have a Bachelors of Music degree for Professional Music (drum set performance & music production) from Berklee College of Music . Whilst at Berklee I studied under some of the top modern drummers including Dave Dicenso (Josh Groban, Hiromi), James Murphy (Blue Man Group) & Terri Lyne Carrington (Wayne Shorter, Herbie Hancock, Esperanza Spalding).

I am a producer & drummer with a diverse musical background ranging from traditional jazz (voted Young Scottish Jazz Musican of the Year 2012) to modern pop music. My performance experience spans internationally performing on stages in USA, Finland, UK, France & Estonia. As well as performing I'm also skilled in using Ableton & Pro Tools to both produce music and use these DAW's as live performance tool's.

Drumming is challenging, and rewarding, but It's also supposed to be FUN ... it is for me, and I want my students to have some of that fun, too! I've played drums for 38 years and have taught since 1992. I use a wide variety of professional experiences along with my education background to help students of all ages reach their personal goals, whether it's to just play along with their favorite top-40 tunes, reach for more advanced music, or get ahead in their school's music program. I highly encourage feedback and student input regarding what we will work on together!

About Luc
After drumming for almost 40 years, I feel like I've nearly done it all, having played played Rock, small and big group Jazz, Classic R&B/Soul, Fusion, Funk, Folk, Reggae/World Music, Top-40, Heavy Rock, Classic and Contemporary Country, Blues, Electronic, Theater, and Cinematic/Soundtrack music.
I was self-taught at first by listening and playing along with recordings, and then studied under Maine greats Dick Demers and Steve Grover, and attended the University of Maine-Augusta in the Jazz and Contemporary music program. During the past few years, I've also started to play the Chapman Stick, and I've increased the amount of hand percussion in his bag of tricks.
My reputation in the Maine music scene is as a solid, first-rate musician, and throughout all of this, I've appeared on many recordings. I'm now the drummer in the 80’s party/
dance band “The GE3KS” and in the original band “Goss”, with an Adult Contemporary/Alt Rock album currently being written and recorded, as well as hard rock originals with Jerry Perron, with an alum completed and slated for mastering at Abbey Road Studios over the summer and fall of 2017.
I've taught drum set in one-on-one settings since 1992, first at Spectrum Music in Lewiston and Brunswick, Maine, then at The Music Centre in Brunswick, and at The Drum Shop in Portland, as well as in my own home. I've also lectured at summer percussion camps, and authored a drum method book, "Beginning Drum Set Coordination," and published the first edition in 2004, with an updated second edition printed in 2016. In mid-2016, I re-joined the teaching staff at The Drum Shop, and shortly after joined the staff at The Midcoast School of Music, also in Portland.

Since November of 2016, I have been an artist endorser for Rich Sticks. Check them out; they make a fantastic quality product and they're a top-notch crew!

His depth of understanding and passion for music go far beyond just his substantial drumming, vocal and Chapman Stick talents. He is able to engage in the technical minutiae and the broad philosophical aspects of all styles. Time spent with Luc in the musical space will move you forward!
