My lessons are both fun and educational, with flexibility to honor each student's needs and goals. During my time as a drummer, I have had the pleasure of studying music with Dr. Richard Ripani, Eddie Bell, and renowned big band drummer Duffy Jackson in Nashville, TN. I graduated in May 2017 with a degree in Studio Music/Jazz Performance at UT Knoxville, studying with Professor Keith Brown. I want to pass on all the knowledge I gained from them to you! I'm an easy-going and passionate educator who truly enjoys welcoming others to the world of drumming. I love helping students like you become better players as you deepen your love of music and feel great about yourself in the process.

I devote time to helping you develop a strong foundation of fundamentals while also guiding you as you immerse yourself into your passions. Simply, I can teach you how to learn and appreciate music - a skill that can be applied to all areas of your life.

I believe that we can be complete musicians, not JUST drummers, so I like to involve music making into all we do in our time together. I’m also a constant learner, so if you want to learn something that I don't know, then we can explore it together and I'll teach you my process for educating myself.

First, I would like to get to know the student and their goals in order to tailor lesson plans to reach their goals. In general, many students I have taught in the past are interested in specific genres of music and drumming, so we would go over the necessary skills needed to play those genres. I also like to teach improvisation and chops, if you are interested in learning more of a solo drumming style then I can also facilitate that. The fundamentals I like to focus on are derived from the essential rudiments, video examples and the books: "The Art of Bop Drumming" and "A Funky Primer." Styles I like particularly are: bebop jazz, neo-soul and funk. Some contemporary drummers that I like particularly are: Carter Mclean, Yussef Dayes, Matt Gartska, Eric Harland and Brian Blade. I hope to teach drums in a way that allows for each student to develop their own style with which they can employ in any group setting.

I have taught drum lessons for over 20 years to students of all ages. I care deeply about helping students reach their goals on the instrument, and I never cease to be amazed at the beauty and creativity involved in making music.

My background in a nutshell: I have a degree in music with a focus on percussion and composition from a major university, I've studied with some of the greatest drummers in the world, and I lead and compose the music for a jazz quartet in New York City.
