As a student, I participated in yearly NYSSMA competitions, performed in recitals and National Music Guild competitions as well. Following my passion made my decision to major in music the obvious choice. I wound up being the recipient of the first Ralph V. Ritchie Music Memorial Scholarship at Nassau Community College (which needless to say was a huge honor). During this time I worked closely with other advanced teachers and musicians to gain other methods, styles and techniques of playing and teaching music. I found out very quickly that playing a keyboard while standing up is both stylistically and technically different then sitting at the piano,
I'm patient, creative, positive and fun to work with and I really enjoy teaching. I love working with children and I'm passionate about passing my love of music along to my students. I also love to explore improvisation with students and song writing if the student and parents(s) are interested. I myself try to always be open to change and growth. *** Lesson Details ***
I specialize in teaching classical piano to students of all ages, including extensive experience in teaching autistic, special-needs and disabled children.
Sensitive to individual needs and abilities, I prepare students with curriculum, lesson plans and weekly assignments on a one-on-one basis.
Curriculum may include technique, sight reading, theory, ear training, scales, NYSSMA and performance/recital preparation. Working with both students and their parents together we can determine individual goals for each student.
Scheduling is maintained and coordinated to accommodate students and their families.
In the first three to six months, my intention is to instill a good practice ethic.
Students will be positive and motivated towards playing their instrument.
They will have a basic understanding of theory, scales and technique.
Additionally, students will be able to play a small repertoire of pieces.
Whether you are a beginner or an advanced student, my lessons are organized, productive and most of all - fun!
*** Studio Equipment ***
Lessons in a recording studio. Where you have a choice of an acoustic upright piano or a digital Yamaha keyboard. I also own a farfisa organ and a moog synthesizer.
*** Travel Equipment ***
I always try to get a feeling from each individual student as to which series of beginner books will work best for them. Obviously if the student is more advanced (and already working on a specific piece) please bring that with you to the lesson. There are so many beginner books to start out with. I like to have a lesson book, a theory book and a technic book as well. Once the student has learned the basics, I like to occasionally let them choose a fun song (pop or rock) as a reward for working on the classical criteria that I prefer. I find it helps keep them motivated to plat their favorite songs to their friends and have some fun. (even though that would be work as well).

I specialize in classical music for piano study. I have taught the Suzuki method with a few very young students. I have also taught other styles such as rock and roll , some Broadway songs and top 40 upon request. I also teach some students different styles of songwriting techniques.

Started her formal music training at the age of four, Yung-Ai had performed both as a soloist and an orchestra member with various orchestras, including NYU Symphony Orchestra, Shih Chien University Orchestra, Shih Chien University Wind Ensemble, and Utopia Opera. Notable performance venues include Taiwan Center Association, Opera America, Queens College LeFrak Concert Hall, Shelter Studios and Theatre
Always endeavoring to improve her playing, Yung-Ai gave three undergraduate recitals and won first prize in several competitions and scholarships during her school years, including Taiwan National Student Competition of Music, Taipei City Student Music Competition, Taipei City Culture Cup Music Competition, Taipei City Capital Cup Music Competition, and Asia Pacific Cup International Music Competition.
In order to become a better teacher, Yung-Ai also attend master classes with different flutists, including Judith Mendenhall, the principal flutist of the American Ballet Theatre Orchestra, Trevor Wye, and James Galway.
In 2017, Yung-Ai founded a chamber music group, Across the Span--Taiwanese in the United States, with her two other musician friends, and had been giving concerts throughout New York City.
Voice students can expect to improve week to week in their vocal technique. Every voice has a unique timbre; I teach students to release built up tension and apply foundational techniques in order to unlock their own individual sound. I can help any student to sing with freedom, confidence, and expression.
I teach piano students of all different ages and experience levels. I studied classical piano for 20 years. I can teach students to read music and pursue classical excellence, to learn how to play contemporary music using chord sheets, or both depending on the goals and preference of the student.

I have worked with education programs at the Juilliard School for three years. I am a mentor for the Music Advancement Program at The Juilliard School and I am also a New York Philharmonic Teaching Artist Apprentice.
I am a Teaching Artist at the Thurgood Marshall Academy Lower School, an and have also privately taught at the Aspen Music festival and School (P.A.L.S program). I have worked with the Education Programs at the Kennedy Center in Washington D.C. while being a National Symphony Orchestra Youth Fellow.

Turkish American violinist, Zeynep A, started studying the violin at the age of 5 as part of her music therapy treatment for her diagnosis of speech delay and Auditory Processing Disorder. Almost immediately after being introduced to the violin, Zeynep began to speak and following a year and a half of violin studies, she had her first solo appearance with Vivaldi’s A minor Violin Concerto, after winning the Peabody Concerto Competition.
As a soloist, chamber, and orchestral musician, Zeynep has appeared in a myriad of venues such as Carnegie Hall, Royal Albert Hall, Kennedy Center Concert Hall, Alice Tully Hall, Moscow Conservatory Great Hall, Mariinsky II Theatre, and Strathmore Hall. Future engagements include performing as a soloist with the Presidential Symphony Orchestra of Turkey during their 2019 USA Tour and recording a CD with the Turkish recording label, Lila Muzik.
Zeynep is the first prize winner in many competitions, some of which include the Juilliard Concerto Competition, the Dorothy DeLay Fellowship Competition at the Aspen Music Festival and School, the National Philharmonic Concerto Competition, and the Goldie and Feder Memorial String Competition. Additionally, in 2015, Zeynep was awarded the Ataturk Youth Achievement Award by the Ataturk Society of America in Washington DC.
Zeynep is currently pursuing her master’s degree at the Juilliard School as a recipient of the Ahmet Ertegun Scholarship, the C.V. Starr Scholarship, and the Molly Frank and Aliki Perroti Scholarship under the tutelage of Naoko Tanaka. Former teachers have included Oleg Rylatko, Aaron Rosand and Shirley Givens.
Community outreach and service has played an important part in Zeynep’s musical life. In 2013, Zeynep co-founded the group Sonatas Stopping Starvation. The project uses musical excellence to help develop citizens and leaders within the arts and the greater community. Their mission is to be of service as artists and citizens to organizations that work to fight hunger. Along with a school-wide food drive, they gave their first benefit concert in November 2013 at the Juilliard School. Zeynep is also a Morse Teaching Artist Fellow, a Gluck Community Service Fellow, and a Music Advancement Program Fellow.
As a Turkish American, Zeynep receives frequent invitations to perform in major music halls in Turkey. She was featured at age 9 on Turkish National Television while performing works of Kreisler and Massanet and she has worked with the violinist Cihat Askin in Cihat Askin and Friends project (CAKA) with performances including the opening gala of Istanbul Toy Museum.
Aside from music, Zeynep enjoys taking business classes at Columbia University through the Barnard-Columbia-Juilliard Exchange program, drinking tea, biking, and being an avid dog lover.
