About Thomas
Thomas J. W. is an active music teacher, composer, adjudicator, and clinician in the greater Philadelphia area. He has over fifteen years experience as a concert band director, marching band director, jazz improvisation instructor, choral director, private instructor, and marching drill writer. His directing career has included small rural band programs, small metro programs, large high-achieving suburban programs, and non-profit youth bands. In addition to his band compositions, he also has over forty unpublished vocal arrangements to his credit, most written for use with collegiate men's a cappella groups. Thomas taught over 600 online and local private music lessons in 2016.

Thomas has a Bachelor of Science degree in Music Education from The Pennsylvania State University. He holds a teaching certificate in the states of Pennsylvania
and New Jersey and has taught at the secondary level in both states. In addition to both instrumental and choral ensembles at Penn State, Thomas was a student leader in the Penn State Blue Band and a member of the brass section of the Cadets of Bergen County Drum and Bugle Corps in 1993 and 1994. He served as an Associate Director of the Warren Junior Military Band of Youngstown, Ohio from 1995 to 2005. He also served as a visual staff member for the renowned North Penn Marching Knights of Lansdale, PA for one season in 2004.

He is a current adjudicator with Drum Corps International and Cavalcade of Bands. He is a member of MENC, PMEA, NJMEA, ASCAP, CASA, Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia, and the National Band Association. He appeared in the Marquis Who's Who Among American Educators in 2004 and 2005, an honor rarely bestowed upon teachers, as students who appear in the Who's Who Among American High School Students must nominate them. He currently is a music teacher at the Center for Performing and Fine Arts of the PA Leadership Charter School in West Chester, PA and resides in Downingtown, PA with his wife and two sons.

Thomas will happily work with students on the autism spectrum or students with ADD.

*** Lesson Details ***
My lessons are tailored to the needs and interests of each student. If a student is involved in school music ensembles, we will work with their lesson books from school in addition to material outside of the books, including SmartMusic, Noteflight, and teacher-created materials. We will focus on building proper tone production and individual technique - something that often is difficult to learn in a large ensemble setting.

I am capable of starting a beginner student on any band instrument including percussion, any classical string instrument (violin, viola, cello, string bass), and piano. I can begin a student on drum set and work with them through their first method book, but I would then recommend they find a specialized drum set teacher after a period of six to twelve months.

For advanced students, I work from selected conservatory etude books on developing advanced skills and can work with students on audition pieces for honors bands/orchestras or college auditions.

My lessons are a half-hour once a week, with the option of working for 45 minutes or 60 minutes.

An experienced and certified Suzuki teacher, my students learn to play the violin starting from a solid foundation with emphasis on posture and producing a beautiful tone. In addition to playing the instrument, students can expect to learn reading music, basic theory, music history, and ear training. Learning violin will teach patience, concentration, the value of hard work, coordination, as well as enhancing memory, aural skills, and fine motor control. It was Dr. Suzuki's belief and mine that learning an instrument not only fosters these skills but also helps to foster the hearts and minds of those learning the craft.

About Sylvia
Sylvia Wehrs is a violinist based in Cleveland, with an active career as a performer and teacher. She is a graduate of the Cleveland Institute of Music with both a Bachelor’s in Violin Performance and a Master’s degree in Violin Performance and Suzuki Pedagogy. A fully certified teacher through the Suzuki Association of the Americas, she teaches through the Music Settlement, Laurel School, Bard High School, and maintains a private studio of students in Cleveland and Zimbabwe with ages ranging from three year-olds to adults. As a performer, she performs regularly throughout the Cleveland area with the Akron Symphony, and in chamber and solo appearances in a variety of settings from concert halls to hospitals.

During the summers Ms. Wehrs has participated in Bowdoin International Music Festival, National Repertory Orchestra, and Music
Inspire Africa, a life-changing program that allowed her to share her love of performing and teaching music with the people of South Africa and Zimbabwe. Building from this experience, Ms. Wehrs founded her own program in 2017, Cleveland Harare Music Exchange, which seeks to bring musical guidance to the children of Harare, Zimbabwe through the Suzuki method and high level performances.

Ms. Wehrs believes strongly in music education as a tool for social change, and is excited to study this topic in depth as a member of the 2018 Global Leaders Program. As a participant, Ms. Wehrs will have the opportunity to engage a diverse group of students in Chile and Peurto Rico this spring.

I have been teaching strings, piano, harp and drums since 1999. Many of my students have studied with me for years and developed a lifelong love of music. Some have gone on to be professionals.

I have been tutoring music therapy students as well as teaching music composition for seven years.

I strive to help students achieve their musical goals however I can, but I do not tolerate laziness or half-hearted attempts.

Music can be a tool and thus, summers are dedicated to fun, composition and learning to record.

I started to learn the violin since I was 3 years old. My mom chose this beautiful instrument for me, she thought it's convenient to carry. I came to America after I finished my music education degree in China, then I studied two years in the US for my Master's degree in violin performance. After I got my Master's degree, I found out there are still a lot more space I want to improve, so I came to California to continue my violin study and I got my Artist Diploma in violin performance. I played hundreds of concerts, including chamber and symphony concerts. I have given 5 violin solo concerts in the past years. I have been playing with the professional symphony orchestras. For the violin, no matter which area you want to improve, I can give you the most useful and effective suggestions to help you improve fast.

I have been teaching children of all age groups to acquire a solid foundation in violin playing. Whether it be pre-K beginners, or high school students getting ready for college auditions, I will communicate with the students and parents to set a number of goals to achieve.
I also welcome adult students, beginners and amateur enthusiasts alike.

In addition to gaining expertise in the techniques in violin playing, students in my studio will be given opportunities to gain comprehensive music knowledge including theory, sight singing, ear training, and any relevant music history, as the above-mentioned knowledge are indispensable elements in violin playing. Singing and clapping are essential parts of the lesson. When students are equipped with the basics, they can play anything and make the music they want.

I have been a professional violin performer and teacher for over 15 years. I am the winner of the 2011 Central Washington University Symphony Orchestra Concerto Competition. I have previously served as the concertmaster at The Hartt Symphony Orchestra.

During my time at The Hartt School, from which I earned Master of Music and Graduate Professional Diploma, I was appointed as the violin technique class instructor at The Hartt School, teaching undergraduate violin major students.

Hi! My name is Jaclyn and I am a professional violinist who has spent the last four years performing in New York City. I have had the honor of performing as a soloist and a chamber musician in some of New York's most sought after venues including Steinway Hall. I have also performed in a number of pit orchestras including an off broadway production of Carousel. I am also a studio musician and have done a number of commercials. I work frequently with composers working on new classical music as well as with rock and alternative musicians. I bring my wide variety of experience as well as my passion for creative and collaborative learning to my teaching. I appreciate learning music from a more well rounded perspective looking at theory, history, and performance practice.

I am a Professional Violinist and I graduated with a Bachelor of Music from New York University. I have spent the last four years performing in and around New York City. I have loved working in a wide variety of settings as a soloist, chamber musician, orchestra member, studio performer and as a member of several rock and alternative bands. I also enjoy learning about music theory and history and feel they enrich the learning and performing experience.

My musical training began at the age of 5 and loved making music immediately. I love performing, I also enjoy teaching and working in a collaborative setting. This is done through score studies and research into the history of the piece and the composer. I also like to spend time with students making creative informed decisions about style and performance.
