Danilo is a really great drum teacher. Challenging, but also meets you at what ever level you're at. When limbs don't know how to rally together for a new thing, he's a very good cheerleader until it comes together or helps make it make sense to break through that wall. Enjoys good music too. Super recommend.
Charles
Great teacher. Fills me with confidence. Also it is awesome and inspiring to hear him play.

Danilo is great! He adjusts each weeks lesson to adapt to my needs. Patient, easy going, and very knowledgeable about what I need to work on and giving me exercises to work on between lessons. Highly recommend!

I have been in love with marching percussion since 2007, when I first picked up a set of drum sticks. I have taught 2 separate high school marching drumlines (Wellborn HS and Oxford HS in AL), and have marched in 1 drum corps (Atlanta CV Bassline) over the course of my marching career. My invaluable instructor in drum corps was a Berklee Grad and a co-inventor of the Vic Firth Heavy Hitter practice pad! I teach drumming fundamentals for all marching drums (snare, quads, and bass drum), including but not limited to: grip, hand placement, bead/mallet placement on the drum, exercises for building your endurance, use of a metronome, and different techniques (traditional or matched grip). I also have many exercises at my disposal from my time in drum corps, and can give you access to hundreds of pieces of practice material! All ages and all skill levels welcome, and I look forward to drumming with you!

About James

I'm a guitar/marching drum teacher from Oxford, AL. I've been playing guitar for 15 years and marching percussion for 11 years. I am currently employed as an electrician on a US Navy submarine in New London, CT, but music has always been my main passion. I teach guitar (beginner to intermediate)

I approach each student as a unique individual, each with varying strengths, weaknesses, and learning styles. I do not endorse a “cookie-cutter” teaching style. Whether starting from scratch or joining the studio with previous experience, every student brings a rich and wide variety of abilities to the studio. Specifically, studies are broken down into physical aspects of flute playing (breathing, posture, and hand position), tone production, projection and color, facility/technique, phrasing and expression, piccolo techniques, orchestral excerpts, and a broad range of literature. Each lesson is structured on three basic components. The first is a conceptual approach. This requires musical demonstrations emphasizing creativity while also incorporating imaginative discussions on phrasing, colors, and artistry. Secondly, a cerebral or intellectual understanding of music in concrete terms is essential. There is a strong emphasis on musicology, theory (including rhythm and harmony), ...

"I started taking voice lessons from Jamie kind of on a whim- I had always wanted to learn to sing but I was nervous and kind of shy about it. Right away Jamie made me feel comfortable. He is very encouraging and gives criticism in a positive way. It is obvious that he really loves music and is knowledgeable about many different genres. I love that he focuses on theory and technique- as a beginner these are the lessons that I was looking for. After five lessons I already hear a big difference in my range and my vocal strength as well as my confidence, and I am sure that as I progress he will continue to challenge me. I highly recommend him."
