Hello! Glad to be back in the neighborhood! I am a professional pianist, vocalist, songwriter, actress, director and teacher. I have a lifetime of experience in the performing arts (I started performing at 6 years of age) and many years teaching music and theater arts! What are you looking for? If one of the answers to this question is a teacher who truly understands how to communicate in an understanding and fun way...then let my years of experience help you to achieve your goals. I have taught many students of all ages and levels in private, public, and workshop environments. I always try to get to know my students - learn about their musical experiences as well as skill level; tastes; and what they want to achieve at the piano. I teach in the classical method and specialize in applying this method to various genres such as pop, rock, jazz and Broadway! I have coached students for the Young Musicians Festival (The Schubert Club of CT) and all of my students were judged

About Sharon
Sharon knew at a very young age that the arts were her life and doesn't remember a time when she wasn't singing, dancing and acting. She began her professional singing and acting career at the age of six years old and has performed at Carnegie Hall and Lincoln Center. She plays the piano and is a versatile musician with a strong foundation in the classical method that really rocks!!
Sharon grew up in Brooklyn, NY and has trained with some of New York City's premier voice, piano and acting teachers. Sharon majored in Theater and graduated cum laude with honors in theater.
She is a certified public school theater teacher and has worked with hundreds of performing arts students. As a private instructor, she has guided her students in piano, voice, and acting.
Sharon is a fun and innovative teacher. Her wealth of experiences has made
her a well-rounded teacher. She has a great sense of humor with a serious commitment to her art and her students. A winning combination for you!

I highly recommend Sharon as a piano instructor. She is very enthusiastic, encouraging and patient. Also her way of teaching is amazing. I am an adult beginner who had taken a few lessons with another instructor before. Though I did pick up some terminologies, I like the way Sharon goes back to basic and teach me the fundamentals without assuming me know it. These are essential for me to progress further.

I honestly don't know where to begin. Sharon West has helped me in so many ways! Not just vocally but in all aspects of performing and in life. I was a 13 year old little girl when I met Sharon for the first time. I immediately knew she was the person that was going to help me achieve my goals. I don't know how I got so lucky to have had the opportunity to work with such an amazing, caring and loving vocal coach but I was totally blessed! Thank you, Sharon for all that you have done for me. Love you lots Sharon

When my daughter was younger, she would sing in her room, the shower or anywhere else she felt comfortable. She was very shy but loved to sing. When she was 13 years old, she lost her grandfather. This was devastating to her and the rest of our family. After the loss, she decided she wanted to make singing a part of her life. Not being musically inclined myself, I didn't know where to turn. Lucky for us, we stumbled upon Sharon West! For the next 6 years, Sharon worked with my daughter weekly teaching her so much more than just music. She guided her on all aspects of performance from singing to entertaining her audience. Sharon West was a huge part of our lives and we could never thank her enough. My daughter now performs in front of thousands and you would never have known she was every a shy, quit little girls. Sharon is by far, the best vocal/performance coach. Love and Miss you Sharon

Instructions are conducted by using custom curriculum for every student. The curriculum is based on student's desires and abilities. Teaching material is combined from several books that include American and European authors

About Peter
I am energetic, experienced and creative music teacher with a proven ability to get the very best out of pupils, an expert at identifying the appropriate resources required for a subject matter and ensuring that they are used efficiently and effectively Most of my students read and play simple music after 2-3 classes of active instruction.

I posses an extensive classical music and music pedagogy training. All my musical knowledge and expertise was attained in Eastern Europe. I play and teach piano, upright bass, bass guitar and a range of other instruments. Over the years I taught basic piano, the beginner violin, viola, cello and a variety of school instruments such as recorder and xylophone. I also teach advanced music theory, harmony and basics of composition and orchestral arranging required for music colleges. I especially
find it rewarding working with beginners and the opportunity to show them the amazing world of listening, playing and making music.

The teaching begins with identifying student's musical needs, goals and tastes. Students are taught a stimulating, thorough, and graduated course of recital solos, theory, technical studies, and classic repertoire. For those wishing to pursue more of a classical approach to music, there are proven methods to accomplish that goal established by European master teachers and pedagogues. Also, I can teach the know-how of Jazz and Blues though gradual lessons that cover basic theory, scales and chords up to melody and harmony development.

*** Lesson Details ***
The learning process should be, for the most part, fun and based upon a strong relationship between the teacher and the student. Curriculum and lesson plans are based on student's abilities and aspirations with appropriate balance between theoretical and practical work. The lesson material is always carefully chosen, and when necessary, adapted to specific learning needs.

With a proper approach, everyone can learn to play music. Whether you want to pursue a music career, or just play for fun and enjoyment I can help you attain your goals. From basic piano and stringed instruments, to advanced theory, harmony, composition and improvisation to jazz, pop and rock.

Classes are not based on a single source or book. I provide other exercises in printed form for students to keep and take home.

*** Studio Equipment ***
Two high end digital keyboards, two violins, viola, cello, upright bass, bass guitar and amplifier, music stands, stereo equipment with a large CD collection of just any conceivable music style.. Assorted school instruments: recorder (soprano and tenor), xylophone. Peter got right down to business and it is clear he knows what he is doing. My son is 5 and Peter kept his attention for the full 30 minutes, which is really saying something. At the end of the first lesson, my son was introduced to and could repeat note names; could play a five-note scale; and was learning his right hand from his left. I myself went to Juilliard and Yale for music and am so pleased Peter will be teaching our child(ren).

I was teaching piano for more than 35 years. I have individual approach to each student, because everybody are so different and also have different goals and like different styles in music. Many of my students take NYSSMA exams and successfully pass them. What is most important, I want my students to love and understand music.

About tamara
I started to play piano when I was 6 years old. After I finished music school, I continued to study music in junior college and finally in Gnesins' Academy of Music. While I was studying, I started to work as a pianist in Drama Theater and as an accompanist for singers, violinist and cellist in different music schools. After i've got my Master degree in Gnesins' Academy of Music, I started to work as a teacher in college. I am teaching in US since 1991. I was working as a piano and music theory teacher in music schools and my private studio. I am using traditional method and, of course, I have individual approach to each student, because everyone is so special and goals are very different. Most of my students take NYSSMA and have the highest scores. What unite all my students - love to music.

My children have been taking piano lessons with Tamara since 2005. Both started when they were 6 years old. She is amazing! Tamara is SO knowledgeable and has a gift for teaching. She is a serious teacher and has pushed my children to reach their fullest potential. She has always done so with understanding and kindness though. They love her. I travel more than 1/2 hour each way for their lessons but it is definitely worth it! My children have progressed much more quickly than their peers studying with other piano teachers. They have been exposed to pieces from various composers and studied music theory as well. Both have taken several NYSSMA exams and they've both scored at the highest level on every one. My daughter has already completed all 6 levels. My son is 13 years old and planning to take level 5 next Spring. I would HIGHLY recommend her for students of all levels and ages. She can teach the beginner as well as the more advanced. She has also been VERY flexible with lesson days and times. [working around my son's busy sports schedule]. She is a treasure in Glen Cove!

About Michelle
Hi! My name's Michelle and I've been working as a professional musician for as long as I can remember. I was very lucky to grow up in a family of musicians and to be exposed to high-level music education at a very young age. I found my love in keyboard instruments and went on to pursue piano & pipe organ at both the undergraduate and graduate level. I've since had positions as Music Director in various churches, where I've conducted choirs and planned large musical programs, in addition to performing regularly for all services. I've also served on committees working to bring keyboard music to larger, age-diverse communities. I've created and developed music programs for children & youth in non-profit organizations while teaching and coaching students of all ages. I've accumulated a significant portfolio of original compositions and arran

There is not enough that I can say about Mr. Blackwell's teaching. Under his instructions, I have learned not only to play the bass by ear, but also I am able to read and understand music theory. Mr. Blackwell constantly challenges you to go further with every lesson. The best part of the class is the jam sessions! I love playing songs being the lead at times and a support to the band.
