Bachelor of Music in saxophone performance from University of Arizona
I have been teaching saxophone for 15+ years. I enjoy teaching people of all ages, both children and adults, of all levels. I believe in teaching a strong core of music fundamentals but also in finding what makes music special to each student. Lessons should be fun and engaging. I have several students audition into regional bands, and select school ensembles every year. But we also make sure to play some pop tunes and top 40.
Now accepting vaccinated students for in person lessons. I am a musician with an equal passion for performing and teaching. I have taught ages 8-80 at all levels from beginner to advanced. I believe in the importance of teaching a strong core of music fundamentals but I also want to find what mak

I have been teaching violin for seven years. Though I am classically trained, my interest in music goes far beyond classical music. I am constantly listening to various genres of music and consider myself a forever learner, loving everything in music from Prokofiev to the Flaming Lips. It is my job to help guide my students through their musical journeys, whether that is helping them get into their regional orchestra or teaching them that one song they've always wanted to learn. I teach out of the Essential Elements and Suzuki Method books. Though my lessons are fun and relaxed I will always give my students that extra push when needed. My goal is to help each student reach their personal success and to instill a love for playing music.
Tools for lessons:
Shoulder rest or sponge
Previous method books (if you are not a first time learner)

I taught music lessons in a private school in Nova Scotia, Canada, for 10 years before moving to the United States in 2015. At this private school setting, I taught piano, voice, percussion, and drama. I worked with all ages from preschool to grade 12. I love working with children and thinking up new and exciting ways to learn and grow. I have a passion for bonding with teenagers and giving them hope for the future and cultivating pathways of success. I have a special spot in my heart for working with adults because I still love to study and know the thrill of new learning as an adult. As an added bonus, I am studied in the holistic approach of the Russian school of music and can make music come alive in the mind as well as the fingers. I teach each student as an individual finding his or her strengths and taking him or her to the highest level. I graduated this past May of 2021 from Eastern Connecticut State University with a Bachelor of Arts in piano performance. Playing the piano ...

I came in with few specific goals aside from becoming a better all-around singer.
Steve initially helped me improve my technique and cultivate a fuller sound using a variety of physicalization exercises. Since, we have progressed through songs he selected that each challenged certain parts of my voice while also highlighting my strengths. We'd keep coming back to songs I struggled with until I developed the desired skill. In that way, each song kind of brought its own lesson.
10 months later, I have a collection of songs I can perform confidently. In this time, we've also spent time on music theory and focusing on new skills I grew interested in improving (like singing with quiet intensity).
Finally, it's also important to note that Steve has always been patient, kind, and supportive. I was nervous before starting singing lessons again, but his gentle though direct feedback put me at ease quickly.

I started taking lessons with Matt when I was 16 and when we started up again this year (I'm now 31) we were able to pick right back up where we left off. That should tell you all you need to know about how much he cares about his students.
He's an especially excellent teacher because he's so passionate about music and his instrument. You'll never run out of new things to learn because he's always learning new things himself.
Nobody will teach you to love the guitar like this dude!"

As a vocalist, there are many core techniques to learn in order to excel at your craft. From proper breathing and support to tone, range, and pitch, mastering the art of singing takes practice and dedication. One of the singing tips that is frequently overlooked is microphone technique. All of your hard work can be undone if you’re not comfortable with microphone technique. The moment you sing into a microphone your acoustic voice becomes an electric instrument. Even with the best vocal techn …

Private lessons? Check. Big dreams? Check! But there’s more to the equation when it comes to singing professionally. Monclova, OH teacher Carrie A. shares her professional experience to inform your own singing journey. How to Become a Singer I can’t tell you how many students over the years have come to me asking, “How do you become a singer on TV or Broadway?” before they finish their first vocal lesson. While those are great aspirations to go after, the truth is that it’s bet …

Ray Charles, Jerry Lee Lewis, and Stevie Wonder—so many names top the list of influential piano players in music history. But for a while there, as dance, metal, and grunge took center stage, piano was relegated to the sidelines. One artist who changed that, however, was Ben Folds. When he hit the scene with his band Ben Folds Five in the mid-90s, a new musical sound emerged—pop heavily infused with piano. Who is Ben Folds? Ben Folds grew up in in North Carolina listening to piano grea …
