Taught American Sign Language (ASL) full-time and part-time (nights) for 39 years, just recently retired from full-time teaching. I have primarily used Signing Naturally (SN) workbooks, all levels. I have also used Learning American Sign Language (LASL).
Currently, I am teaching Deaf Culture as an online course at San Diego Mesa College.
I have been using ASL since I was 4 years old and I have attended California School for the Deaf, Berkeley (Fremont) and Riverside. I have received valuable experience from Deaf peers of Deaf parents, Deaf adults and Deaf leaders. In this sense, I am a native user of ASL and ASL Fingerspelled Signs.
Graduated from Gallaudet College (University) in Washington, D.C. with a B.S. in Business Administration. I received two Masters degrees from California State University, Northridge, one in Deaf Education and the other in Educational Administration. I received my Doctoral degree in Educational Leadership from University of Southern California ...

Wow, can’t say enough good things about Bill! My boyfriend and I decided recently that ASL was something we would really like to pursue learning together, so I signed us both up for lessons with Bill and we are so grateful for all of his patience, guidance, careful explanation, and enthusiasm. Learning so far has been a breeze and so much fun! We really look forward to our lessons, and they seem to fly by each time. We would highly recommend Bill to anyone eager to learn and understand more about sign language. What an incredible experience!

I teach Conversational American Sign Language. If you want to be able to communicate effectively with Deaf people where you work, at your school, in church, or at the grocery store, you need this fun course. I like to teach students the way Deaf people really sign, and give them opportunities to interact with native ASL users to become comfortable in their signing.

Hi, I am excited to share the beautiful language of ASL with you!
I have experience teaching for over a year and a half. As well as teaching friends and family in an unofficial setting even longer!
I love to work with children! I am currently only taking on students 17 or under. I have a lot of experience working with children and have taken classes about how to best work with them! I am also in an Elementary Education and Special Education dual major.
I believe learning should be fun! With game-style lessons for children, they'll enjoy learning! And not forget what they've learned!
I also encourage constant practice, even if it's just in the mirror. I will include homework, in the form of videos of any new vocab. (That way you never have a problem forgetting what you were supposed to practice!)
I love ASL and can't wait to help you learn to love it too!

About Lucy

Hi y'all! I'm so excited to teach you something I love and has changed my life for the better! I am an enthusiastic people person and I am a teacher at heart. I truly enjoy teaching children! And have loved teaching and working with children for over a year, with ages ranging from infant care to

Just did the free intro class with you and really enjoyed it! You were patient and repeated things slowly when we needed it. My son's review: "I loved it and I learned a lot!"
My almost 10yr old son took it with me as he's been wanting to learn sign language to help him communicate. He's ADHD and gets frustrated super fast and likes to communicate non verbally when he's mad so we've been looking to learning "officially". We learned today the colors of the rainbow along with his favorite color gold, numbers and letters. We hope to take a paid class soon when we have discretionary funds :)

"Alan is a great teacher. His lessons offer a real mix of technical practice and information on deaf culture which I was looking for. He is flexible with time and always willing to 'chat' a few minutes longer than the lessons require. I would recommend him to anyone interested in learning (or improving their prior knowledge of) ASL online."

What's the Difference Between ASL & BSL?

Have you been wondering, "What's the difference between ASL and BSL?" This is a great question, and deserves a little more background. First of all, did you know that sign language is not universal? Just like there are numerous spoken languages (around 6,500) used across the globe, there are also many sign languages (somewhere between 138-300) used by various Deaf communities.
