I love the viola; I'm primarily a violist and love nothing more. I would love to share my passion with you or your child!

I have a Master's degree in Viola Performance, and viola is my primary instrument. I have received extensive instruction on the minutiae of the viola, and can help you with any need that you many have!

I tailor my approach to each student. Some students require more technical work, some require interpretive. Both are fascinating and can be taught with structure and clarity.

About Martina
Hi! My name is Martina and I am a classically trained violist. In May of 2013 I received a Master of Music from Roosevelt University, where I studied with Lawrence Neuman of the Chicago Symphony. I received an undergraduate degree from the University of Wisconsin with Sally Chisholm of the Pro Arte quartet. The only thing I love more than playing viola is sharing the joy of music with others! I've received training on violin and viola and can't wait to start teaching you or your child.

*** Lesson Details ***
I tailor my approach to each student to make sure that:
1.) The student is getting exactly what he/she wants out of the lessons.
2.) The lessons are an appropriate difficulty for the student.
3.) A student's strengths and weaknesses are being addressed with a tailor-made lesson plan and long-term goals.

*** Travel E
quipment ***
I can provide a stand. Student is responsible for purchasing an instrument, and any sheet music. I can definitely advise on an instrument to purchase and will instruct with specific music requests.

Martina is very skilled at what she does, and she is an amazing teacher. She pointed out all of my strengths and weaknesses at the first lesson, and she always teaches at my pace and not her own, giving me the opportunity to completely learn something before moving on to more difficult things. She is overall a very friendly person who you will feel incredibly comfortable to be around, and she always does the best job that she can to teach me every single lesson. I look forward to our lessons every week, and I am simply amazed by how much I am progressing under her guidance.

Lessons with me...

I'm passionate about music and its many benefits, both academically, emotionally, and physically. I love to share my joy with my students in a fun, collaborative way that is professional and enjoyable. The pace is determined by the goals of the student, and materials are tailor-made to suit your preferences. Classical instruction is essential for proper technique, but branching out to Celtic fiddle or movie soundtracks is a definite option!

I recommend weekly lessons, and a minimum daily practice plan is required. Younger students should do 30-minute lessons, but around 10-years old, I require 45-60 minute lessons. Serious students preferred.

I began privately instructing students while I was still in high school. Thirty years later, my studio teaching experience continues to instill a passion for music and students that are performing in their own venues in school and the community. Knowing that the time I have with each person is leading them to grow and share their own abilities with others is truly the heart of where I think musical instruction should lead.

About Kendra
Hello. My name is Kendra and I have been performing and teaching professionally for over 25 years. Utilizing the Suzuki curriculum and supplemental methods, I like to provide a solid technical foundation as well as tailor each lesson to my students' personal musical interests and goals including classical, Irish and Bluegrass fiddle styles, jazz, blues, and popular music.

I'm an older, experienced player that has had some specific problems after returning to violin after a long hiatus. I was concerned most with my vibrato and a bouncing bow. Kendra zeroed right in on those problems and they were resolved in just three lessons. Kendra is patient, knowledgeable and perfect for an adult player at any level. I imagine she is fantastic with younger players, as well.

Gary had his first lesson and got over the jitters of being "the first time" as well as the app which made us nervous "Yes dad especially!" being I was used to old fashion face to face lessons back in the dinasour era.

Thanks Jonathan for the great lesson and introduction to this program.

I look forward to more future lessons.

Jonathan is an excellent instructor. My lessons were scheduled in the evenings and he accommodated my busy work schedule. He presented the lessons clearly; he adapted my lesson to my learning style and never forced me into just 1 style of learning. He also gave me a lesson manual and discussed alternative ways of practicing at home. Joanathan is extremely knowledgeable, I would recommend him to anyone looking to learn violin.

I've been teaching Viola for more than 10 years, giving masterclasses and lessons to students of any age and level. I work in a way that corresponds with individual student's needs, either it is basic posture and hand position problems, sound quality, technical difficulties in specific pieces, or understanding and communicating musical ideas. You will learn how to practice in more effective way, and how to be more comfortable and relaxed, playing viola.

About Mikhail
Dr. Bugaev received his Doctorate at Michigan State University where he studied with Yuri Gandelsman. Prior to his study in the United States, Mikhail was a member of Novosibirsk State Academic Orchestra and Novosibirsk Kamerata. Mikhail performed as a soloist with Novosibirsk Academic Orchestra, Novosibirsk Kamerata, Livingston Symphony, MSU Symphony, and MSU philharmonic orchestras. As a chamber musician, Mikhail participated at Music Mountain Festival in Connecticut with St. Petersburg Quartet, at Cello Plus Festival at MSU, performed at the Lansing Symphony Chamber Series Concerts as a member of Armonia String Quartet and at Blue Lake Fine Arts Camp faculty concerts. Mikhail teaches privately, as well as at Okemos Music Academy and at Blue Lake Fine Arts Camp.

I have played the violin and the viola for 13 years, and have studied both extensively at a high level. You can expect a good mixture of technique and pieces in our lessons, along with many conversations about body awareness and tension release. The last two points are my passion projects, as I aim to help you develop pain free playing at all costs!

About Jake
Hello!

I am currently earning a masters degree in viola performance at The Hartt School, with separate emphases in music theory, conducting, and strings pedagogy.

In the past year, I was a teaching artist at the Incredible Children's Art Network in Santa Barbara, where I was exposed to many teaching methods and techniques, among them the El Sistema method of strings pedagogy. I was also a musical mentor at Santa Barbara Strings, where I led string sectionals, and coached chamber music groups.

Teaching is a great opportunity to get to know a young artist. My primary goal as a teacher has always been to help my students discover their own musical voices. In our lessons together, we will explore your personal musical interests, and I will also introduce you to an applied technical approach to the viola and violin, which I will cater
to your individual technical and musical needs!

My daughter began her first year of violin lessons with Jake at her school when she was in 4th grade . She enjoyed taking lessons with him and remembers discussions they had about the history of the violin. She said he was a good teacher - patient and explained things well. She received a good fundamental background in the violin and that has carried over to her continuing into her second year of lessons.

My goal is to help you progress in your studies of the Viola. I do not expect to have any studio recitals, but I would love to help prepare you for any performances, orchestral or solo, that you have coming up. I am open to your repertoire choices if you have something you are itching to play (I know I have my own bucket list). If needed, I can also make suggestions for repertoire based on your current skill level. As for my history and aspirations for the Viola; I have been studying with Dr. Mark Neumann for four years. I received my Bachelor’s degree in Viola Performance from the University of Oklahoma in 2017, and am currently working towards my Masters Degree in Viola Performance at the University of Oklahoma. I hope to receive my Doctor of Musical Arts in the future.

About Lane
I am currently a Master's Student at the University of Oklahoma. I received my Bachelor's Degree in May of 2017 from the University of Oklahoma. I began my studies of the Viola at age 11, when I started in the public school's orchestra program. From there I continued playing the viola in various orchestras, youth orchestras, and honors orchestras in the Oklahoma City area. From Fall 2013 through Spring 2015, I served as the Violist for OU's Undergraduate Honors String Quartet, studying under Dr. Jon Ruck, Dr. Gregory Lee, and Dr. Mark Neumann. I specialize in Solo works, as well as chamber and orchestral works. I look forward to working with you!
