All science classes listed on my profile are offered in ASL. This is not a class focused on Deaf culture so much as an ESL class focused on the use of ASL in science for those whose preference in ASL rather than English.

I am hard-of-hearing and use ASL.

About MARIE

I'm 67 years old. My home is surrounded by trees, squirrels, birds and flowers. I've been teaching science for about 35 years in private schools, public schools, technical schools as well as online. I retired from public school about 10 years ago but I never stopped teaching. The best part of wha

Marie is an enthusiastic and detailed teacher. She has a great ability to explain complicated concepts with visuals and unique approaches. Her love of the subject really shines in her teaching. I highly recommend Marie as a science tutor.
Gina
Marie teaches with great enthusiasm, and it's hard not to get excited when your teacher is so excited about the subject. She has a true appreciation for how things work together, and it's like she helps you put the puzzle pieces together to see the cause and effects. With Marie, it's not like you learn tons of individual facts and memorize a bunch of stuff that you'll forget later. Instead you learn how one thing affects another so you can understand cycles and processes in Science. Plus, she has a great sense of humor and loves to laugh, so that makes learning fun.
Sofia
Marie is clear and patient. She’s sparky and explains things interestingly.

Just did the free intro class with you and really enjoyed it! You were patient and repeated things slowly when we needed it. My son's review: "I loved it and I learned a lot!"
My almost 10yr old son took it with me as he's been wanting to learn sign language to help him communicate. He's ADHD and gets frustrated super fast and likes to communicate non verbally when he's mad so we've been looking to learning "officially". We learned today the colors of the rainbow along with his favorite color gold, numbers and letters. We hope to take a paid class soon when we have discretionary funds :)

"My daughter absolutely enjoys her time with Joy. She has always had a desire to learn ASL but there were no consistent opportunities for such an education. When she found out that ASL would meet her foreign language requirement, she started searching and found Take Lessons, which led her to Joy. Joy has a teaching style that has increased my daughter's passion for ASL...so much so, that she intends to continue her ASL education through the college level. If you or your child are serious about learning ASL, I highly recommend Joy. She should be in the schools with this."
