In our lessons, beginning students will learn to read music, play their favorite pieces, how to do warm ups and learn basic skills. I use sheet music and introductory books in my classes and assign homework for their daily practice. After 3 months, each student will move to the next level and continue learning more advanced skills. More advanced students will learn how to understand and compose music, put expression into the pieces they play and improve their current skills.

About lena
I have been playing piano since I was a young child and have always had a passion for music. I apprenticed in China under a master piano teacher for 15 years and then immediately started performing in many different venues. 18 years ago, I started teaching piano and have enjoyed sharing my love of music with others. I am very patient with students and am very open to the type of music they would like to play. From pop music to classical, beginning to advanced, I am well versed. If there is a specific piece you want to play, I can fit it to your level. In my lessons, I try to make each experience meaningful and joyful.
I am also available giving personalized lessons online nationwide. Looking forward to meeting you and sharing the joy of music in person and online.

I especially emphasize in basic skills, such as recognizing the notes, reading the notes, understanding the meanings of the dynamics, and expressing oneself through each individual piece. Moreover, the basic performance skills are also occupied very heavily in each lesson, such as scales, triads in single notes and octaves, in slower speed and gradually into faster speed, and of course, different levels of etudes to build a strong base for each student to achieve his/her beautiful performance.

As someone new to music in general, Lena focused our lessons on the fundamentals of reading music and Hanon exercises to attain dexterity. She is a very patient instructor who works with you to fix errors step by step and was more than willing to answer the many questions I constantly threw at her. I have learned quite a lot in the short time I have been working with her and I would recommend her to fellow beginners.

As a theorist, piano came natural from a guitar playing background after taking the interval structure of a common chord and incorporating both the left and right hand to explore the same techniques. I do best with requests and start from whatever level my student is coming from. I do everything from Beginning songs to Classical, Rock and modern Pop or Country.

About Jason
TakeLessons.com Instructor since 2005, Jason M. is now available for online lessons worldwide featuring multiple-camera angles and a share screen experience leaving no stone un-turned!

Jason has been playing guitar for over 15 years and teaching music since 1996. Although trained in standard teaching methods, he has developed his own method of teaching to positively enhance the student€™s strength, dexterity, ear-training, memorization and techniques. His goal as a teacher is specifically designed to help you achieve your goals as an artist and a musician.

This year Jason was also the Music Director at the National Guitar Workshop Day Jams Rock Music Day Camp where students ages 7-15 came out to form bands, record original material and master their craft. He also taught beginning to advanced guitar/ vocals/ performance and songwri
ting as hosted a recording clinic at the end of each day.

Jason has host student showcases/charity benefits where his students were able to get on stage and show off their new talent and perform with other musicians. It wasn't mandatory though, if you were just looking to come out and support there was no pressure other than to come out and have fun.

Jason has been transcribing for guitar and bass since the age of 18 and since then has become a master of the craft including both 5 line staff and tablature, hand-crafted exercises and deconstructions to better enhance the students learning. Artists and genres that Jason has experience with range from Classic Rock, Metallica, Slayer, Megadeth, Guns N' Roses, Santana, Jimi Hendrix, Eric Clapton, Led Zeppelin, Robert Johnson, Pierce the Veil, Paramore, All Time Low, Demi Lava to, Iron Maiden, Motorhead, Pantera, Avenged Sevenfold, The White Stripes, Green Day, Old Crow Medicine Show, Taylor Swift, Mumford and Sons, Bruno Mars, Rob Zombie, John 5, Audioslave, Rage Against the Machine, Van Morrison, the Beatles, AC/DC, ZZ-Top, Bullet For My Valentine, All That Remains, Ozzy, Black Label Society, Sublime, Aerosmith, At the Drive In, Type O Negative, the Black Keys, the Pixies, the Toadies, Black Sabbath, Jason Mraz, Lady GaGa, John Mayer and Journey.

Jason attended the University of Alaska, Anchorage where his degree is in Music and Business. He is constantly continuing his education with music theory courses as well as private guitar instruction. He attends guitar workshops and seminars by artists such as John5 and Kerry King who are known as some of the worlds finest guitar players. He reviews every day from a wide range of over 1000 sources working to become a better musician and instructor.

Another nice feature that you might enjoy from one on one sessions with Jason is learning the ability to craft and record your own songs using state of the art technology that caters to your own unique personality. There are no limits!

Jason teaches all experience levels from beginner to intermediate and advanced as well as artists that are signed to labels.

Local news outlet Fox 5 did a segment with one of his students who overcame issues with ADD and depression as a result of taking guitar lessons.

His students advance quickly, some have released albums, been in Guitar World Magazine as well as its online companion and won awards for their music websites.

Lessons are scheduled to best fit to the student'€™s schedule when possible.
Students receive complimentary audio lessons and transcriptions of songs upon their first or second session. Jason is a very patient instructor and understands that students learn at a different pace, after all everyone is an individual.

Jason is a remarkable teacher! He truly has been able to break through a mental block I've always had regarding thinking in chords rather than just reading notes. His desire to help the student reach a personal goal is so evident. Jason remained so confident that a 'light bulb' would come on that I started to believe it myself. He has put me on a good path now and did it with his confidence in me and by providing the right tools. Thank you for your patience, confidence in me, and your calm, pleasant way of teaching, Jason.

In a half hour or hour, I will focus on the positive and aspects of your playing that need improvement, with an enthusiasm that will develop your love of the instrument as much as your technical ability. This isn't to say technique will be neglected; all my students will be required to play scales and other exercises, which will probably take about 20% of the lesson time.

About Gabrielle
I'm a violinist and pianist from West Friendship, Maryland with twenty years of experience on each instrument and ten years experience teaching. I have a Bachelor's Degree in Music Education from the University of Louisville. I believe in using positive feedback to develop a student's passion for playing music. Beginner to advanced, I can make you a better musician.

I would have described how 'passionate' Gabbi is about violin but unfortunately never had that opportunity. I had scheduled the class 10 days in advance and on the day of the class Gabbi decided to shoot an email couple hours before saying she can't make it.
A dollar is minute is a very decent compensation which I don't make as an engineer with 7 years of college education. But unfortunately that didn't inspire enough professionalism in Gabbi. Maybe she reserves her professionalism for few people and not for everyone.

Gabby is a great violin teacher. She customizes her lessons to your needs, and she encourages and gives great pointers throughout the lesson. My daughter leaves her lessons with so much more knowledge and hints - than when she came with to the lesson. I have seen her improve greatly in her playing in just a few lessons.

About Max
I have worked with over 2,500 students in one-on-one lessons, educational workshops, and outreach concerts. My lessons focus on developing technique, practice strategies, a good sound, aural skills, music theory knowledge, and stylistic fluency.

My private students have placed into selective programs including the Greater Hartford Youth Wind Ensemble at The Hartt School, the Connecticut Music Educators Association All-State Band, and Interlochen Arts Camp. I teach saxophone at Manchester Community College, Camp Encore / Coda, and Music and Arts East Hartford. I believe students of all ages can find enjoyment and success in music.

You'll benefit from my years of experience as a professional performing musician. From 2012-2016 I toured with the Asylum Quartet, an award-winning ensemble acclaimed for virtuosity, creativity, and innov
ation. I have also performed with the Juilliard Orchestra, the U.S. Coast Guard Band, and International Opera Theater. I hold a Master's in Music from The Hartt School and a Bachelor of Music summa cum laude from Arizona State University (ASU).

Though I specialize in saxophone, I also love teaching beginning and intermediate piano.

If you are outside my travel radius, I may be able to accommodate you for an additional travel fee - please contact me!

***Lesson Materials***

Saxophone students must have an instrument in good repair and required accessories (reeds, mouthpiece, etc.). Piano students must have access to a tuned piano or a keyboard with touch-sensitivity. I am happy to recommend instrument and accessory brands; please check with me before a major purchase. Quality, working equipment is critical to students’ success.

I periodically request that students purchase books and other lesson materials.

IMPORTANT: If you are planning to buy a saxophone or mouthpiece, please consult with me first. Having a good quality saxophone and mouthpiece is essential to your success. There are a number of cheap saxophones and mouthpieces readily available, but they are often of poor quality. I can recommend options for your first saxophone or mouthpiece purchase that may be more expensive, but will help you succeed in the long term.

I began my musical instruction as an instrumentalist, so I have years of performing and teaching experience in drums, guitar, piano, and beyond. Feel free to contact me about these other exciting musical opportunities! I use Alfred's instructional method books for children and apply a more intensive and exciting teaching plan for adults. As always, my teaching is fun and holistic while also being approachable and results-oriented. Let's get started!

About Zachary
Dear Students and Parents:

My passion for performing and teaching brought me to TakeLessons as a way to enrich my immediate community (and beyond through Skype lessons!) and help individual students perform at their best. As an operatic performer, I thoroughly understand the importance of building a strong technical background for any level of singing or professional speaking. My other skills, like instrumental instruction, studying skills, accent reduction, and academic preparation are all offered through TakeLessons as well. As a teacher, I love having fun in lessons and building strong connections with my students at absolutely any level. My personal musical performing experiences span opera, musical theater, jazz, pop, and R&B. I am so excited to share my knowledge and passion for singing with you, as well as any other subject
we find to explore! As of February 2013, I am also available through TakeLessons' online instruction program! Please find more information below and I hope to hear from you soon!

Thanks!

Zachary B.

A native of Charlotte, NC, Zachary began his musical career as a tuba player and jazz bass guitarist. While attending The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, Zachary began singing in various vocal groups on campus and developed his love for the singing voice. With encouragement from the music faculty, Zachary began training as an operatic baritone while at UNC. While attending UNC, Zachary was awarded both the Fischer Scholarship in Voice and the Tony McDowell Voice Scholarship. His singing brought him to Boston in the summer of 2010 to begin study at The Boston Conservatory. While performing various opera roles and attending summer programs, Zachary also opened his private studio and taught at a local music academy.

Baritone Zachary B. is quickly establishing himself as an active operatic performer. Equally at home on the recital stage, his versatile lyric baritone voice fits a wide range of repertoire and styles. A graduate of The Boston Conservatory, Zachary has performed roles like the titular role in Don Giovanni, Ramiro in L'Heure Espagnole, L'horloge comtoise in L'Enfant et les sortileges, Pooh-Bah in The Mikado, and Bob in The Old Maid and the Thief.

Starting in February 2013, Zachary will also be available through TakeLessons for online instruction. Lessons will still focus on energy, breath, and solid technique, so please contact him if you think this venue of instruction will be a good fit!

Regardless of your background, I believe in making lessons fun, encouraging, and accessible. This means that my work with you will, by nature, be incredibly personal and always formulated for your specific musical goals. I will constantly strive to make sure you are comfortable in our work together as we explore singing, speaking, and music theory.

I believe every singing or speaking voice can benefit from a foundation in classical vocal technique. Whether you prefer to learn through singing songs or through various exercises, I can customize our lesson plan to fit your needs. Therefore, I provide a fun and engaging lesson atmosphere, but you need to bring your best as well! We will both be happier with the process if we are equally invested in your growth. We will start with something you already know (an aria, vocal exercise, or excerpt from a song) and work toward singing in your preferred vocal style. For example, classical singers will build their knowledge of English, German, Italian, and French diction and song styles. Additionally, I will always respect and include my student's musical interests.

Along the way, I am happy to address basic music theory ideas. If you prefer, we can also spend additional time reviewing and learning those principles to enrich your musical experience. I will always provide different exercises and ideas to keep your brain active in the singing process.

I believe in whole body, whole spirit singing. As a performer, I employ a variety of holistic exercises and theories to develop my own voice, such as basic Alexander Technique principles, voice therapy techniques, a variety of pedagogical palates, and energy work. If these sorts of things interest you, I am more than happy to incorporate them into our lessons. My personal results with those practices have been incredible, so I am always eager to share.

My personality is outgoing and energetic, so I bring that sort of atmosphere to a lesson. I expect preparedness and readiness on your part to maximize our work together. My greatest desire in teaching is to see you grow! So, if a challenging, yet comforting, work environment sounds like something you would like to try, consider scheduling a trial lesson with me. I am always happy to hear from new students!

*** Studio Equipment ***
Open area between the living room and the dining room, seating available, piano to accompany the voice lesson, garage/driveway/street parking.

*** Travel Equipment ***
I prefer for my students to have a keyboard or piano, and if possible, a music stand. We can always make a situation work if the student does not have access to these tools. I provide music, pencils, etc.

*** Specialties ***
I am an opera singer, and specialize in classical singing. However, I apply similar vocal technique to all genres of music, and focus on breathing technique, body and energy awareness, and discuss a holistic approach to singing with all students.

Piano was my first instrument as a child and I never stopped loving it. I have been teaching it for the last 5 years and hope to instill that same love for music the way my piano teacher did for me! Students will learn how to read notes, music terminology, technique, and a wide variety of piano repertoire.

About Sheila
Sheila's interest in music began at the age of seven when she began private instruction in classical piano, and by the age of ten, she began playing the flute. Sheila received her Bachelor of Music with a degree in Music Education from the University of Redlands, where she studied flute with Sara Andon. There, she performed in the university's Wind Ensemble, Concert Band, and Orchestra. During her third year at university, she studied abroad at the Zoltan Kodaly Pedagogical Institute of Music in Kecskemet, Hungary.

Sheila has performed in many different venues around the world such as Tivoli Gardens in Denmark, the Edinburgh Trade Center in Scotland, the Sydney Opera House in Australia, the Walt Disney Concert Hall in Los Angeles and the Greek Theater in Los Angeles and the Valley Performing Arts Center in Northridge, CA.

In 201
3, Sheila graduated from California State University, Northridge with a Masters degree in Flute Performance where she studied flute with Sandra Kipp. At CSUN, she performed in the Wind Ensemble, Symphony Orchestra, Wind Symphony, Northridge Flute Quartet, and various chamber ensembles. She currently resides in Irvine and teaches private lessons in flute and piano.

*** Lesson Details ***
My goal as a music educator is to foster excellence in the art of music through private instruction. I have worked with students of all ages ranging from 5 to older adults.

In my studio, students will learn to read music and have a well rounded music education. This means that we will work on a variety of things such as music theory, music history, and a wide range of repertoire (from Beethoven to the Beatles!) While I have high expectations for my students, I do my best to keep the lessons relaxed and lighthearted. My hope is that the student is always engaged and interested during lessons.

My three expectations:

1. Come prepared both mentally and physically (this is especially important for flutists-- make sure to warm up prior to the lesson!)

2. Don't be afraid to ask questions and make mistakes. This is non-threatening territory, I'm here to guide you and help you. Remember that mistakes happen, we're human. Just make sure that you learn from those mistakes so as not to make the same ones and grow from each experience.

3. For parents-- BE INVOLVED! I can't tell you how often I've seen younger students excel when their parents were proactive in the experience. This means encouraging them to practice, coming up with a rewards system, and sometimes sitting in on the lesson to take notes so that you can work on what we did during the lesson at home together. It's difficult for music teachers to compete with iPads, Playstations and television, so let's get creative together!

*** Required Materials ***
Flute students must own a well maintained flute, as an instrument that is out of adjustment causes frustration and can initiate bad habits. In addition, the student must also have a metronome and tuner, a music stand, flute repertoire, and an assignment book for me to write down each week's assignments.

Piano students must have a working acoustic piano or digital piano in their home for piano lessons. The student must also have a metronome, piano repertoire, and an assignment book for each week's assignments.

I enjoy teaching beginners to advanced levels. I specialize in beginning learners and believe that the initial path of studying should be reinforced with a positive teaching style and the right technique for that individual student. There is not a 'cookie cutter" music book for any beginner. As a teacher I learn the style of each student that best suits there goals to move forward.

About Steve
I am a Musical Director who has scored original music for many motion pictures and television and was musical arranger for the Dallas Symphony Orchestra. I've scored and arranged original music for several television shows including, Desperate Housewives, MTV's Making the Band, It's Showtime at the Apollo and numerous series on PBS, A & E and Disney, . I have also served as on-set vocal and piano coach for many Disney TV series.

As a piano instructor, I believe in giving every student a foundation in classical music.. I enjoy teaching and playing Jazz and pop as well.

I've worked with students ages 5-90. I simply love the teaching process and respect every student's journey. Mixing structure and discipline with a positive teaching style, I work to inspire students to be their best within a well structured curriculum that is fu
n and engaging.

Music must be fun...always!

*** Lesson Details ***
My students see progress. I don't believe in cookie-cutter instruction. I take the time to learn a students individual comprehension of the musical language and their learning style. I also build a practice schedule that is realistic and creates growth. Music instruction should not feel like a burden, but should be joyful. It's a process I have respected. Whether you are 90 or 9, you can learn music, love music and feel its presence by playing an instrument or singing. My job is to communicate that joy and show you how you can do it for yourself.

Learning to master a musical instrument is a two way commitment and I will always give you my full effort as I love the results.

*** Studio Equipment ***
I have a digital upright piano for piano and vocal instruction.

*** Travel Equipment ***
I will provide the lesson material and help students with purchasing the right method books.

*** Specialties ***
For beginning Piano-Intermediate, I have embraced the James Bastien series, as I believe it paces the young student and builds a foundation on a musical and pedagogical level.
Vocally, I follow a classical technique, but use that foundation as a basis to meet the goals of the singer for the style they want to achieve.

The guitar is the instrument with which I have developed bad habits and posture over the years, but in addition to correcting these things, I really needed help with music theory. Also, as opposed to being a kid with all the time in the world to practice and study, I'm a 40-something with a busy, full-time job in the middle of my daily life. I offer thoughtful, caring lessons to students in order to nurture their growth as musicians, whether they are just starting out or seeking to develop their skills and repertoire.

About Isabel
Thank you for visiting my profile!

To tell you a bit about myself, I am originally from New York where I earned my degree from the Arts and Sciences College at Cornell University. I have studied music at Cornell, Hunter College and Mannes College of Music, and have sung and played piano since my youth. I have been taught by jazz and classical concert pianists. My own professional musical performance career spans some fifteen years and counting.

For the past several years, I have specialized in piano teaching because I love to embark students on new journeys of musical discovery at the piano! I teach students at my home studio in Westfield where I have an acoustic piano. My specialty is serving beginners through intermediate students. Many of my students have gone on to shine in talent shows, recitals, bands and anywhere el
se where they choose to make music.

An everyday piano lesson with me incorporates piano improvisation, fun educational games and apps, music theory and, of course, plenty of music to take home and practice! It is my passion to make music come alive for others, and I would love to help you or your loved ones reach musical goals at the piano.

Isabel is a superb teacher who brings out the best in her students! They come in with a rudimentary knowledge of music and, over time, their musical abilities come to flourish thanks to her patience, encouragement, dedication and insight.

I've been teaching piano and keyboard for over 20 years and many of my students have gone on to careers in the music and arts field. Within the first few lessons, you'll be able to identify notes and play simple melodies and as time goes on you'll be able to use both hands and play songs that you will definitely recognize. I specialize in classical and contemporary, and typically use the John Thompson method books. I love working with students of all ages and experience levels and I can't wait to meet you!

About Christopher
Chris is an award winning theatrical performer, musician, vocalist and sought after performance coach in the Atlanta area. Under Chris’ influence as a gifted piano instructor, vocal teacher and performance coach, his clients have gone on to appear on stage and screen globally with credits given to performances at Carnegie Hall, The White House and The Walt Disney Company just to name a few.

Chris has served as chief music director across the east coast in musicals such as Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, The Sound of Music, Seven Brides for Seven Brothers and just recently is credited to the role of Neville Craven in Lucy Simon’s Tony Award Winning musical, The Secret Garden.

In his spare time Chris contributes back to the arts community by serving in local churches as a musician, gifted speaker and vocalist. Chri
s attended Liberty University in Lynchburg, Virginia where he studied music and vocal performance and continues to devote his energy to training and coaching people of all ages in the field of music.

Voice students can expect to improve week to week in their vocal technique. Every voice has a unique timbre; I teach students to release built up tension and apply foundational techniques in order to unlock their own individual sound. I can help any student to sing with freedom, confidence, and expression.

I teach piano students of all different ages and experience levels. I can teach students to read music and pursue musical excellence, to learn how to play classical and contemporary music using a variety of sheet music, chord charts and more!

Chris is a true professional with an easy-going teaching style and fun to be with. I am a bass/baritone and he helped me increase my range beyond what I thought I could do and improve my breathing which has really helped me as a choir member. I'd definitely take more classes from him again.

There are so many things I could say about my experience with Christopher Nanny, but the best thing about working with Christopher is the fact that every lesson is catered to the individual student. My lessons were always focused and fun, I left every lesson knowing I was prepared for my next performance. If you are a adult, teenager, or child who wants to receive excellent teaching and coaching, I would highly recommend taking lessons with Christopher Nanny.
