About Kelvin
I am a highly organized, outcome-driven and motivated professional musician and educator with solid experience in the classroom. For the past 25 years, I have been employed with Amati music academy and seven years on the faculty of University of St Francis.
I am very comfortable with all aspects of the current music syllabus, including teaching musical concepts (such as duration, pitch, dynamics, tone color, texture and structure) as well as performance, composition. I am fully qualified, with a Bachelor of Education in Music, Double Masters in music performance and education from University of Nottingham.
I am proficient in classical, jazz and Celtic fiddle violin and possess solid skills in piano (grade 8-13) Royal conservatory system.
Throughout my teaching career, I have been driven to help students achieve their very best. I str
ongly believe that music has the power to change lives – to enhance the social, cultural and spiritual lives of people, and serve as a profound medium of personal expression. Professional perform experience: The Chicago, Natalie Cole, Smokey Robinson, Three tours with Moody Blues, YoYo Ma etc....
The most important thing I look for in a student is communication skills, as well as talent. I like to nurture students and help identify their individual strengths, which is a key factor in shaping a musical persona that will make its mark both on and offstage. I do not advocate a uniform technique for all students. Physical differences and learning styles are always taken into consideration. Potential is as important to me as early achievements and experience. My goal is to help students become self-sufficient, discriminating artists. I discuss practice techniques often and develop individualized scale routines. I encourage initiative and expressive musicality as well as precision. Above all, music needs to bring obvious joy to the student, regardless of the difficulties.”

About Kim
For creative people and makers, crafting is like going to the gym. You will find great fulfillment and a sense of accomplishment if you set aside time on a regular basis to nurture this very important part of what makes you who you are. Think of me like a personal trainer. I will encourage and inspire you while you develop your skills and express yourself through a variety of textile based media.

Private and group lessons or classes are provided in locations around the NYC area, in my space or via webcam. My focus is on providing an entertaining, relaxing and enjoyable experience as you learn a leisure time activity. I am extremely patient and detail oriented. When you let me know what you would like to learn or make, I will guide you through everything from selecting materials to fine tuning your technique. Take a lesson with me to fi
nd out why my students love me.

Teaching is a wonderful extension of my work as a professional crochet and knit designer and technical editor. A web search will reveal some of my published work over the last decade. As a craft teacher in the NYC area for over 8 years, I have worked with individuals, groups and classes of all ages and skill levels. Most of my experience focuses on working with older adults and people with special needs. Minors must have a supervising adult present. I do not work with groups of young children.

I have studied the history and mastered the skills to make and teach a vast variety of textile techniques. Please see my experience.

If you are using this site without the assistance of a TL Rep, I recommend the schedule as you go option. I often have openings in my calendar sooner than the site allows. After we make contact, we can choose the best date and time.

*** Lesson Details ***
Please let me know what you would like to learn or make before your lesson so that we may be fully prepared with any materials, tools, equipment, books or handouts. Students are expected to provide all their own tools and materials unless other arrangements are made.

Recommended duration for in-person lessons is 90 minutes. A surcharge may be added for travel outside of areas accessible by one MTA fare or expected travel time exceeding 90 minutes.

*** Specialties ***
Textile based crafts including crochet, knitting, embroidery, sewing, patchwork, plastic canvas, needlepoint, counted cross stitch, bobbin lace, historic textile and costume conservation and storage, and more.

I also love to research and develop craft projects for classes or master techniques students would like to learn.

Kim was absolutely divine. Friendly, skilled, and encouraging. I've never sewn before in my life, and by the end, I'd made half a doll shirt out of a pattern I had to modify. I'll definitely be taking Kim's lessons again.

WOW - I didn't think it would be possible to learn a detailed skill like crochet by video! But Kim made it so easy! I was so frustrated trying to use videos on YouTube. Kim is worth every penny. It was fun and easy - she made me feel relaxed and she was very patient with me! THANK YOU!

We've had Dawn teach a variety of classes at the Simsbury Public Library (CT). Our most popular is the arm knitting class we open to Teens & Adults. Everyone gets to take home an infinity scarf and they all leave learning a new skill. Dawn works well with all ages, is patient, and really enthusiastic about teaching what she loves. We can't wait to have Dawn back to teach more classes this Fall!

Dawn is an amazing sewing instructor. She taught my 8 year old daughter to sew her first quilt, which later won first prize at the Terryville Fair. Dawn is punctual, energetic, and patient. My daughter enjoyed every lesson and learned the fundamentals of sewing, cutting, and following patterns. Lessons were effective and fun.

Here goes...
I am a chess teacher, tutor, singer, and Shakespearean actor in NYC! I guess you could say I wear a lot of hats.

I graduated with honors in 2009 from New York University with a BFA in Drama. I've been professionally teaching since 2012, but I have always loved sharing the game of chess with anyone who wants to learn (just ask my friends).

Students can expect to face new challenges and to improve each and every week. I am happy to work with students of all different ages and experience levels. As a teacher in the New York Public School system, I know how to make chess simple and friendly enough for Kindergartners, Senior Citizens, and everyone in between! And as an active tournament player (current rating 2000), I can offer great insight into the needs of any skill level. I am thrilled to work with ambitious tournament playe
rs and those who just want to learn how to beat their friends :).

Chess is a wonderful, challenging game, but I truly believe that anyone can learn to play if they are motivated. Come work with me and discover your new obsession!

About Tony
I am a British Academy Award winning animator who has made over 200 TV Commercials, 2 TV Specials, several Short Films, and ‘The Pink Panther Strikes Again’ movie titles at the beginning of my career. From the outset I was personally taught by some of the most amazing master animators ever - Ken Harris ('Bugs Bunny' and 'Roadrunner' for Warner Brothers), Art Babbit ('Pinocchio' and 'Fantasia' for Disney) and Richard Williams (3 times Oscar winner). I later successfully ran my own award-winning London animation studio for 20 years, before moving to the States in 1998 to live and teach. In the USA I have taught at the highest college level for over 14 years, when I also became author of several respected books on animation, including - 'Animation from Pencils to Pixels', 'How To Make Animated Films', 'The Animator's Notebook' and 'The Anima
tor's Sketchbook'. Animation schools and colleges around the world use my books. My own master animator reputation & expertise has been developed through traditional, hand-drawn (2D) animation for the film industry. However, I have since developed a whole range of teaching techniques that will help students of ALL forms of animation, whether its for the Film, Games, TV or the Web industries. The ‘core principles of movement’ are essential for all kinds of animation, whether it be 2D, 3D, Claymation, Stop-frame or any other kind. So I now focus less on technology and software, and more on the core principles of movement through ‘gesture drawing from observation’ and other means. In this way my students do not need to purchase extremely expensive equipment or software, they often need little more than a pencil, eraser and a sketchbook – with a lot of their own dedication they need to bring to the party. I am also insistent that students of animation also learn about fundamental design, layout, film structure and storyboarding - as all these are all essential to all great, animation. So I hope you will join me and become yet another of my successful students who are currently working in the animated film and/or video game fields today.

Tony White has the patience to watch inspired animators grow. His ideas feed into our concepts we have and he is the adviser that guides us to how our ideas become a reality on paper or on a monitor. He has assisted me to where I am today.

If I could be instructed by Tony White again and again, I'd never say no.

About Isabela
I'm an enthusiastic learner even after 19 years of formal education (two Masters, one Bachelor) earned on two continents continued by US military education in various forms, and formally tested student who needed to document skills that were not formally captured on paper (like the foreign languages I know).

I love interacting with people and pass on my knowledge from five visited continents, instill love for learning and continuous curiosity for any subject out there. Nothing is impossible when you set your mind to it. Failing once doesn't mean that you'll never win (proof in my athletic years and life ever since); determination, hard work, self-motivation and a good supporting system can bring to reality even the most insignificant dreams that we believe may not come true, and especially those in which we passionately trust.

I be
lieve in breaking down a goal into objectives, assigning tasks to each one of them, and then sticking to achieve them.

I'm a Certified Instructor with the Department of Homeland Security. My hobbies include practicing foreign languages by speaking them, learning about cultures and slangs, etymology, watching foreign movies, traveling internationally, taking photos, reading (a lot), carefully planning with room for error and impulsive decisions (to take the boredom out of things), meeting with life long friends, drawing, painting, and spending time outdoors for inspiration.

I'm elated at the opportunity of brainstorming with you and giving you tools to be an independent learner.

I was born in Ukraine, started playing hockey at 3, chess at 4, still playing chess but not competitively anymore. I'm a junior at University of Houston and working towards my Engineering major, where I feel chess helped me great, especially with logic thinking and analysis. I've been teaching chess in high school library to kids who wanted to learn and then also played and taught chess in university to those who didn't know it yet. When I stopped playing competitively in chess at 15, my ELO was in around 1900. Currently I would say its around 1800-1900 based on chess players/programs that I play with.
