I have been teaching saxophone for 15+ years. I enjoy teaching people of all ages, both children and adults, of all levels. I believe in teaching a strong core of music fundamentals but also in finding what makes music special to each student. Lessons should be fun and engaging. I have several students audition into regional bands, and select school ensembles every year. But we also make sure to play some pop tunes and top 40.
Now accepting vaccinated students for in person lessons. I am a musician with an equal passion for performing and teaching. I have taught ages 8-80 at all levels from beginner to advanced. I believe in the importance of teaching a strong core of music fundamentals but I also want to find what mak

I came in with few specific goals aside from becoming a better all-around singer.
Steve initially helped me improve my technique and cultivate a fuller sound using a variety of physicalization exercises. Since, we have progressed through songs he selected that each challenged certain parts of my voice while also highlighting my strengths. We'd keep coming back to songs I struggled with until I developed the desired skill. In that way, each song kind of brought its own lesson.
10 months later, I have a collection of songs I can perform confidently. In this time, we've also spent time on music theory and focusing on new skills I grew interested in improving (like singing with quiet intensity).
Finally, it's also important to note that Steve has always been patient, kind, and supportive. I was nervous before starting singing lessons again, but his gentle though direct feedback put me at ease quickly.

The saxophone is easy to start on (if you know the right tricks) and tough to master. Wherever you are on your journey with the instrument, I've been there, and I can help. We'll sort out your fundamentals- tone, time, technique and intonation- while learning your favorite tunes and music I recommend for you based on what you like and want to learn. We improvise, compose, transcribe, and arrange so that you can understand music and express ideas fluently in any medium, the same way you can read, write and speak your native languages. The ultimate goal is to give you all the tools you need to create music you love- whether that means covering something you heard on Spotify or improvising new music from scratch.
I've played saxophone for over 15 years, studying first with Dann Zinn in the Bay Area, and then George Garzone and Shannon LeClaire at Berklee College of Music. I've taught the instrument and music to people since I was 18. I learned the instrument through an obsession with ...
My musical life started at the piano when I was four. I've spent the last five years helping students understand the sounds that speak to them and bring them into their own music-making. I spent my early years playing piano, then picked up the saxophone, which took me to Berklee College of Music,
I first met Ethan through my school's jazz combo program, and my interest in music immediately grew in the presence of his friendly persona. Ethan organized life changing jam sessions and master classes that I will remember forever. His teaching approach is project based which gives his students something to walk away with. With his guidance, I have become a stronger musician and a wiser person. Thanks Ethan!

Fawnâs teaching is amazing, from the day one I have learnt so much, I knew she was the good and best teacher for me, I love it."
Tom is a great teacher! He takes his time to get to know the level of the student. This was my son's (8y.o.) first guitar experience, and he did a great job with starting with the basics. I appreciated how he focuses on form and posture too."
Want to learn to play ukulele in different styles and genres? Here, ukulele teacher Michael L. explains how you can get the most out of your ukulele and learn to play new songs and chords... What's the first thing that comes to mind when you think of the ukulele? Is it of someone playing "Somewhere Over the Rainbow"? Or a singer/songwriter playing a soft ballad? We've talked about how to read chords and tabs before on the blog -- but what about a new approach of learning guitar without sheet music at all? Here, Austin, TX teacher Samuel B. explains his teaching technique... During my college years, I was given a brief introduction to instructional methods common to Japan. Specifically, I was told that playing the shamisen or the koto (two native stringed instruments) is a skill learned by way of the student facing the teacher and playing w …

Need to work on your major or minor scales? Piano songs abound by both classical and contemporary pianists that can help you improve your skills. Here, St. Augustine, FL Heather L. shares her recommendations. Even as a piano teacher, I can be sympathetic to students who find themselves practicing major and minor scales over and over without any variation. Scales are often cited as the least favorite part of taking piano lessons. Sometimes, well, a lot of the time, the best way t …
