My lessons focus on musicality and execution in a professional setting. I have played with a huge variety of artists, including Joan Baez, the Boston Symphony Orchestra, Emmylou Harris, Glen Hansard, and Bob Weir. I also earned a jazz degree and played around NYC for 20 years. My advanced lessons explore the intersection of technique and music, while my beginner lessons focus more on individual interests and how to achieve our musical goals.

About Liam

I have been playing professionally since 1992, in every setting imaginable. From coffee bars to Carnegie Hall, I have played them all. I have supported and collaborated with famous artists like Joan Baez, Emmylou Harris, Glen Hansard, and Bob Weir, and spent 10 years on the road touring the US and

Snare Drum instruction....I normally use the Standard of Excellence method books for many of my students; however, I am open minded to adjusting to each individual student's musical needs, whether it be Jazz, Classical, or whatever style music the student is focusing on. Other excellent methods are the Ed Sueta Book, Rubank Method, Breeze Easy, Achievement in Excellence, and perhaps the First Division Method Book. For Drummers, I prefer the Haskell Harr Method, or the Buddy Rich Method Book, as well as the Breeze Easy Method. I always play my instrument along with the student so that he/she can hear how the music is supposed to be played in regards to the notes as well as the rhythm! This way, we all have fun learning!

My son is extremely pleased with his drum lessons he is receiving from Instructor Jimmy Howell Jr..
Desiree
Jimmie arrived on-time and ready to start. He dove right into getting to know my son and started teaching him on bells and learning rhythm since that`s what my son will be expected to know for his first year of band in the fall.
He was very good at connecting with my son and easily had him enjoying the lesson.
You can tell Jimmie has a passion for teaching children and his face lit up talking about it. He heaped praise on my sons accomplishments and my son said he truly enjoyed the lesson and can`t wait for next week.
I`d highly recommend him to teach your child. I don`t think you`d find someone else with the same passion for children. So glad I made the decision to hire Jimmie and look forward to many years of him being involved in developing my son into a awesome musician.
Thank you Jimmie!

About Scott

Hi! I'm Scott. I usually perform using a one-man band setup I created. I modified guitar and made foot pedals to control a drum set, while singing. I have a recording studio at home, and have performed with bands as a singer, guitarist, saxophonist, bassist, percussionist, and as a sound engineer.

"Steve is an excellent teacher.

Steve has been my son's teacher for a year and my son's playing ability has increased dramatically from his previous instructor. My son really enjoys his class time with Steve and the way he teaches music. He engages my son to want to play better. He takes time to let me know how my son is doing, what he needs to work on, and he should do at home to progress. Steve is an excellent teacher."

He is so knowledgeable, extremely patient and understanding. He balances each lesson with not only teaching technical skill but also the history of various drum techniques which makes it so interesting. "Our son loves his Drum lessons.

Benk is very flexible, affordable and our son took to him very well. He even records what he has learned each week so we both can keep track of his progress. He is much more affordable then other drum teachers or studio's in the area, and even will come to your home.
If you are looking for a GREAT Teacher you should take some time to talk to Benk."

"Joe is a great instructor. I took lessons with him when I was 19 and then stopped. I hit a wall in my progress and was feeling uninspired for months. I was split in so many directions, I was not making any significant progress. I tried online for a while and then it hit me. Go see Joe again. I did and within the first week I was back on track.

If you are a new drummer, go see Joe! I remember when I was first learning from Joe. His teaching style makes it easy to learn.

If you are a drummer who is stuck in a rut and can't progress. Go see Joe. He'll get you back on track.

I won't stop now. I will continue to train with Joe until the student has out-mastered the master."

Drumming With Your Weak Hand: 3 Helpful Tips

If you're like most drummers, you have one hand that doesn't always like to cooperate. And for some, the frustration that ensues makes it much easier to just ignore the problem and favor the dominant hand. Over time, while the stronger hand gets better control and technique, the weaker hand just gets... well, weaker and weaker. But just like switch hitters are invaluable players on a baseball team, learning how to build strength in your weaker hand can make you a much more efficient drummer. …
