I have been teaching violin for seven years. Though I am classically trained, my interest in music goes far beyond classical music. I am constantly listening to various genres of music and consider myself a forever learner, loving everything in music from Prokofiev to the Flaming Lips. It is my job to help guide my students through their musical journeys, whether that is helping them get into their regional orchestra or teaching them that one song they've always wanted to learn. I teach out of the Essential Elements and Suzuki Method books. Though my lessons are fun and relaxed I will always give my students that extra push when needed. My goal is to help each student reach their personal success and to instill a love for playing music.
Tools for lessons:
Music Stand
Rosin
Shoulder rest or sponge
Previous method books (if you are not a first time learner)
Metronome
Pencil

It is my goal as a teacher to "decode" each individual student's personal learning style. I strive to create a fun and safe learning environment and to instill the values of lifelong learning, curiosity, and self-improvement in my students. My primary goal as a teacher is to make playing the violin easy and fun.
My teaching begins with a strong technical foundation. Having strong basics allows the violinist to play their instrument with ease, having the freedom to play musically and creatively. I provide students with a balance of scales and arpeggios, etudes and technical exercises, and classic repertoire, and supplement with fiddle, pop, and jazz tunes, according to the student's interests.
I firmly believe that students can begin learning a musical instrument at any age. While I love working with children, I have developed a specialty in teaching adult beginners. The majority of my students are adult learners between ages 25-65 who are either learning an instrument for the ...

Mark is an excellent teacher. He helped me correct my stand and holding the violin and hand position which has me playing much better. We had to back up to the basics but that will help me be a better violinist. He also has been flexiable about changing dates and time to fit my needs. I recommend him to anyone!"

Popular Violin Articles from our Blog
Violins as we know them today really started to evolve from the 16th century. In fact, Andrea Amati, the patriarch of that violin making family, was born in 1505, although it wasn’t until 1555 that he created his first violin at the request of an Italian statesman by the name of Lorenzo De’ Medici. By the end of the century, his grandson, Nicolo, had been born and it was he who would eventually become the most eminent member of the family. They hailed from Cremona, a city in the north of …
