Mayumi G. Greenbelt, MD

About Mayumi

American jazz saxophonist and composer Charlie Parker said, Music is your own experience, your thoughts, your wisdom. If you don't live it, it won't come out of your horn. This sentiment shaped my views on music and its performance. One of my great pleasures in life is sharing an appreciation of music. I had always been a part of music. My father played trumpet, my mother could play guitar and carry a tune. They believed music was an important part of life so they started me on piano at 5 years old. And I've been playing that ever since. I started learning to sing in my middle school chorus when I was 11 years old. I really liked it and I liked it more when I would sing my mother and father'€™s favorite songs and see them smile. So I listened to a lot of singers and vocalists ...

Andrew T. College Park, MD

About Andrew

Musically and personally, I strongly feel that diversity and openness are key in a person's development: when we move outside of our comfort zone and embrace the unknown, we are better able to grow as musicians (and human beings). As a performer, I feel that performing with musicians of different backgrounds is a constant source of inspiration and engaging music. As an educator, I emphasize the role of music as a form of expression and its parallel to verbal language. As children, we learn words and sentences so that we can accurately and gracefully express ourselves and, in this sense, music is no different. I encourage students to enjoy the music-making process and to view mechanics as a means to an end. I have been dedicated to the drums since the age of 9 and since then I have been

Great Experience

From the first lesson, Andrew has been a consummate professional. Each lesson he brings in something new, while making sure that everything we've covered in the past is still ingrained through repetition. Having Andrew as an instructor has opened my eyes to the many facets of drumming, and I have taken skills/techniques with me that will last forever. The feedback does not stop after each lesson, Andrew is available all the time for any questions I may have during the week if I am stumped while practicing. His schedule is flexible with mine, and he is willing to bring in music that I want to personally learn. The lessons are the right balance of fun and teaching, and his studio promotes a learning environment that is not intimidating to let loose if you're a beginner like me.

I'd recommend Andrew to anyone looking to expand their skill set, the lessons have been a great experience.

Ms.Wilma is awesome! She is patient and knowledgeable in Violin. Her expertise helped to identify that the music store provided our daughter with the wrong size violin. Once that was corrected, her playing got better. Our daughter, 4 years old, loves Ms. Wilma and is very excited for each lesson with her.

Wilma is a wonderful instructor. She is extremely patient and will go over the materials until the student understand and can play the lesson as required. I was able to sit and observe her in the lesson and was able to assist my son when he was practicing. She is always prompt and ready to go when we arrived. We never had to wait she was always prepared. My child is 6 and Wilma was able to get him focused on what he needed to do in class and he was able to replicate the lesson at home.

Music Theory and Music Performance

Ms. Wilma's enthusiasm for life and music shines through in her instrumental playing and teaching style. She shows a strong proficiency in many music genres and can teach different kinds of musical instruments.

She's reliable, experienced, professional, and easy to be around. One of her main strengths is her ability to convey musical thoughts in a way that is meaningful, constructive and easily understood.
I really enjoyed how she have enriched my ability to think about musical concepts, discuss theories in music, and listen to different types of music.

Patient, kind and effective teacher

I've had nothing but positive experiences with Robert! We've worked together for over a year and I can say my voice has improved as well as secondary benefits like my breathing. What I love about Robert is how he teaches, he helps my confidence, courage and faith in my abilities. In my work I use my voice everyday, often I am speaking in front of a large crowd. The lessons have really helped with speech, volume and enunciation. BTW I do all my lesson with Skype, which I believe is a great way to do it.

Great teacher!

I took guitar lessons from Rob for 3 1/2 years when he lived in Atlanta. I learned a lot from him and really enjoyed our lessons. He's a great teacher and I would still be taking lessons with him if he lived here!

great teacher, I love the way he interact with my son, making sure they understand each other. he takes the time to understand how my son learns and listen to his questions. He finds the easiest way to bring the lesson across and ensure that the practice time is chosen by my son so he feels he is a part of what going on and he his responsible for his learning. I will have no reservation in recommending Jan. He is great

How to Scream Sing Without Hurting Your Vocal Cords

Read on for tips from Austin, TX teacher Gfire M...   I live in Austin, Texas, the “live music capital of the world,” so I have worked with loads of vocalists who sing in touring rock bands. Some of these students only have one section of a song in which they scream -- others scream for an entire set -- so I work with them to not hurt their vocal cords.
