Mark W.

Snellville, GA

About Mark T

I have been playing since I was 4 years old and have been loving every minute of it. I have been fortunate to play and tour with many groups here in the US and in Europe. Over the years I have really enjoyed passing on my knowledge and love of music making to others. I would be honored if you gave me the opportunity to help your or your family achieve their musical dreams.

*** Lesson Details ***
First and foremost I am very laid back and that helps my students relax into the process of making great music. Expect your first lesson to be about getting to know each other and getting a firm
idea of what your expectations are.

Everyone learns at a different pace and has changing interests. Within the framework of moving you towards your musical goals I create custom goals and lessons for my students.

What does that mean? Well, you can pick out some of your own music, customize the way you practice, decide when you want to move forward with more challenging music and many other things.

I do expect my students to learn several pieces of music at a time and perform so you can share your music. That's what it is all about after all!

*** Studio Equipment ***
Music room with seating for parents.

*** Travel Equipment ***
None, all students require an instrument to practice on.

Fantastic Teacher!

Mark Williams's violin teaching is very experienced and professional. He helped prepare my daughter for her county orchestra audition, and she made it! My daughter enjoys the pieces assigned, and his constructive feedback has allowed her to fix bowing technique and other problems. Each lesson is focused on improving and learning new and old skills. His teaching has made my daughter a better violinist! The schedule is also flexible to fit all my daughter's activities. If you are looking for an excellent violin teacher, Mark Williams is the one!

Excited about learning more!!!

Mark is an excellent teacher. He helped me correct my stand and holding the violin and hand position which has me playing much better. We had to back up to the basics but that will help me be a better violinist. He also has been flexiable about changing dates and time to fit my needs. I recommend him to anyone!

Daniel F.

Lithonia, GA

About Daniel

Graduated from Georgia Southern in 2001, with a bachelor degree in music education.

Have worked for Atlanta public schools as a band director since Fall 2002.

Private lessons are taught on piano, guitar, and all the band instruments.

I also have a deep passion for Disc jockeying with a bias towards reggae and dance music.

*** Lesson Details ***
Students can except a stress free learning process. After learning the basic symbols of music notation, breathing, and simple rhthyms the students will continue learning the techniques and fingerings on their chosen intsrument. After mast
ering these basic concepts in music the children will then be given a chance to perform their songs to an instrumental accompaniment. This is good for the student who does not play in an ensemble to have the opportunity to play and listen to other moving parts.

*** Specialties ***
music, bass guitar, bassoon, childrens music, guitar, classical guitar, electric guitar, home recording, African drum, music theory, acoustic guitar, flute, oboe, trumpet, saxophone, tuba, songwriting, french horn, trombone, clarinet, recording school, piano
My method utilizes maracas and rhythm guitar, played Simultaneously to produce a full ensemble effect.

Ossie M.

Decatur, GA

About Ossie

I started taking piano lessons at the age of eight under the instruction of Robert Wilson before switching to Rosaline Saunders Music Studio. I play by ear, but also read music. I graduated Magna Cum Laude from the University of Louisiana at Monroe with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Music. My purpose is to create well rounded musicians, who can play all genres of music, and who will also know how to set the atmosphere with their music. I love teaching piano and I love teaching all ages. I began teaching piano in 2003 before becoming the founder of The Master's Hands Music Studio in 2004.
My greatest joy is seeing the knowledge and gift of music passed to others that was afforded me by the sacrifice of my late parents.

*** Lesson Details ***
I am patient but expect my students to practice so that our lessons are a continuation of the lessons taught before and not practice sessions in themselves. I use the Alfred's Basic Piano Lesson and Theory books. I believe in custom tailoring the lesson to each student. Finding out what you love and working to get you to the place of playing that music.

*** Studio Equipment ***
Formal Living Room w/ f/w keyboard and seating for parents

Ms. Ossie is an awwesome instrutor!!!!

I wiould like to let anyone know if they are interested in learning to play the piano, especially an older adult that Ms. Ossie is the instructor for you. She is very patient and extremely knowledgeable in piano as well as teaching. I have learned more from Ms. Ossie in a short period of time, than I did from taking lessons for a year, with another. I want to thank take lessons for hiring such a competent, passionate instructor.

An Awesome Learning Experience

My 10-year old daughter's lessons have exceeded my expectations. Ossie M. is professional, very knowledgeable, patient, yet challenging! My daughter took piano lessons at her school for 5 years before TakeLessons and it is like she is learning a new instrument: the attention to detail, the learning of music theory, the ability to learn to read music and play-by-ear are all outstanding attributes and she's only been taking classes for a month! I can't wait to see how good she is doing this time next year. I wish I could give Ossie M. TEN STARS!!!

About Jimmy

With over 30 years experience as a professional guitar instructor, I have been actively teaching lessons in Henry County, GA as well as Clayton County, GA. I had actually started teaching friends as a teenager since 1976 where I grew up in N.Y. and those friends are still to this day professional musicians. I started teaching guitar professional in 1983. Over the years I've had the pleasure of teaching hundreds of students at every skill level, and what a joy that has been for me.

I teach several styles of playing: Rock, Jazz, Blues, Country, Funk, Rhythm & Lead guitar playing, Classical g
uitar and Fingerstyle playing. I teach on electric & acoustic guitar.

I have one basic philosophy in my approach to teaching: get the student to fall in love with the guitar so it becomes a life-long passion. As an instructor, I endeavor to make guitar lessons fun, practical and productive!!! Whether you're a beginner, intermediate, advanced or even at the professional level, I can help you advance your playing skills.

I've had a wonderful experience with Jim, and plan on continuing my weekly lessons with him. His methodology is logical and straightforward, his personality is open-minded, affable, and he's quite the prodigy when it comes to his skill level on guitar. He can fluidly change from a bluesy twang to a warm jazz sound, and switch to a nostalgic riff on the acoustic guitar at a moment's notice. He is everything I could ask for in a teacher, and in the short month that I've been taught by him, my learning curve has steepened with every visit. I'm learning so much from this guy and recommend anyone with an interest in guitar to pursue taking lessons from this guy before everyone else with the right idea books him first!
Sincerely,
An eager pupil

Ginger T.

Lilburn, GA

About Ginger

I have been teaching music to young people since 1987. I began as an elementary music specialist and taught in public schools for thirteen years. After starting my family, I began to teach part time as a Preschool music and movement teacher and private piano instructor. I now have fifteen years experience in this field. In the fall of 2013, I added a group keyboard class to my schedule for young beginners. My experience in the music classroom and the piano studio continues to inform my teaching and approach to working with music students of all ages. Students respond positively to the exci
tement and beauty of making music.

During every piano lesson I aim to help the student play musically and beautifully. We listen to different styles of music and use expressive technique to recreate that style.

My piano studies began in the first-grade. I studied the piano through high school and entered college as a music major with piano as my principal instrument. I chose the flute when middle school band was offered and continued to play through high school and college. My degree course was classroom/choral music which lead me to be a University Singer at Ole Miss during my four years there. It's fair to say that music has contributed greatly to make me the person I am .

I lived in Yokkaichi Japan after graduation from college where I taught conversational English and served as a Christian missionary. When I returned to the Atlanta area, I began my music education career. My music library has grown to include books, cds and music in American Folk music, multi-cultural folk music, classical and jazz music. I've also had the privilege of gaining many hours of professional training in Orff Schulwerk , Kodaly, Choral education and working with young children .

My mission is to bring music to life in my lessons and my students' lives!

*** Lesson Details ***
I think my best teaching characteristic is encouragement. When you're learning something new, you need time to get it right. I use Alfred's Premier Performance series because it includes duets for the teacher and student to play together. This is a fun way to play rhythmically and have ensemble sound while getting started. Alfred also introduces multiple styles of music, simple folk songs to more complicated boogie and dance rhythms as well as classical selections. My students prepare music for the winter holidays and a spring recital. I introduce scales for students who are ready by the second and third year and supplement course books with popular and classical pieces.

*** Studio Equipment ***
Petrof studio upright piano, drums, CD's, library of supplemental piano music.

*** Specialties ***
Traditional method series instruction for young students through adult. I recently added the Musikgarten "Making Music at the Keyboard" curriculum to my method choices. The Musikgarten approach focuses on aural training, leading students to internalize the music they learn before playing it at the keyboard. It emphasizes hearing, singing and playing the rhythmic and melodic patterns before reading them. Like learning to read words, this approach starts with "speaking" the language of music followed by reading and writing it.
