Alysia R. Gilbert, AZ

About Alysia

Music has been my passion for the past 18 years. I started piano when I was 5 yrs old and the violin when I was 7 yrs old. I continued with lessons until I entered the Detroit High School for Performing Arts. During my sophomore year, I took additional classes at Wayne Sate University for music theory and in my senior year I took on my first piano students. I have been teaching piano, violin and music theory ever since. I have also choreographed and taught dance for many years as dancing has been with me since my first lessons at 4 yrs old. My focus is in ballet, tap and jazz. I am a graduate from Eastern Michigan University where I was actively a part of the music and dance program. *** Lesson Details *** I remember my piano teacher and I try to keep her balance of fun and ...

We were disappointed when Alysia showed up late to our 8 year old daughters very first piano lesson (which was an 8th birthday gift.....she was very excited) And then to our surprise she leaves the lesson 5 full minutes early. We thought that maybe she was having a rough day and decided to give it a shot again next week. Well, this time, not to our surprise, after a suspiciously quite...piano lesson...our daughter confirmed what we had hoped was not going on....Ms. Alysia spent much of the lesson texting with "her parents". Just disappointing.

Solid, happy Teacher, quality instruction!

Aysia has been a fantastic teacher for my 13 year old daughter for violin. She has clear expectations and lessons. She is very competent with her skills and good at communicating her knowledge in an encouraging and constructive manner. She has been flexible with the schedule when necessary, due to life happening. I highly recommend her as a choice teacher.

Awesome!!!!

Alysia is a great teacher I was a little nervous to use her because most of the reviews were written by parents whos kids are learning and I am an adult who just really wanted to learn the violin but after meeting Alysia she is not only patient but informative I think learning as an adult we or at least I tender to want to run before I can crawl like let's just learn this so I can get to the "good stuff." The way she explains stuff really lets you see there is method to the madness of trying to learn something so complicated? She is also easy to work with both in song selections (within abilities) and how she teaches. Learning the violin poster among a thousand other things is important and she has a way of correcting that doesn't make me feel stupid I know my husband has the nicest things to say. After a few lessons I am still on simple songs at only a few lessons and I still mess up but I have improved enough he doesn't run away or put in ear plugs anymore. Thank you Alysia!!!! I cant wait till I get a few more lessons in.... I am very excited!

My daughter started violin lessons about 2 years ago (for a few months) with another teacher and for various reasons we had to quit. My daughter was keen to try again and we used Tiffany. She quickly picked up on technique issues which had been poorly taught and helped my daughter correct them, She is super sweet, great with kids, easy to work with and most of all SHE KNOWS HER STUFF! After 10 lessons my 9 yrs old is sight reading, playing with great technique and has been infused with a passion for music. We just came back from a trip to see family overseas and my sister who is an accomplished musician was amazed at how much my kid knew of the theory as well as her playing ability - particularly after such a short period of lessons. I would highly recommend Tiffany. Great teacher and a nice person too!

so glad I finally started taking lessons.....

What fun this is...."finally" at age 72 I'm taking piano lessons....I was very nervous but since I realized Rachel wasn't going to smack my hand with a ruler if I made a mistake, I'm ok. All kidding aside, Rachel's fantastic and I'm thoroughly receiving the benefit of her knowledge in a very gratifying way. She's the best.

Piano is Fun

Rachel is very nice and encouraging. She knows a lot about piano. When I told her my favorite song she found a version of the sheet music that I could learn. I like Rachel because she is a kind and smart teacher.

David O. Queen Creek, AZ

About David

Greetings! Like you, I have a passion for music. I was singing, humming and whistling since before I can remember. I started piano at age 5, clarinet at 10, saxophone at 11, and took lessons like you're about to for them all up through college, playing lead tenor sax and clarinet in the Utah State University Jazz Orchestra for 5 years (among many other groups- all-state, small wedding combos, pit orchestras, barbershop quartets, church choirs, etc.) Meanwhile, I pursued a more "sensible" career, earning a BS and MS or mechanical and aerospace engineering. After 6 years of working that career, I could no longer deny that my heart was in music and teaching. I have now taught band (elementary, Jr. & Sr. High Concert band & Jazz band), Math (algebra & AP Physics) and HS physics for ...

My experience as having Mr. David O. as a teacher has been nothing but positive!

Not only is Mr. David O. a patient teacher but he also knows that every student is different by taking an interest in each student, which in my opinion is very important, and will do his best to teach them with different methods. His teaching schedule is pretty flexible and also has more than enough experience to teach both saxophone and clarinet. If I hadn't had him as my clarinet instructor, I probably wouldn't have done as many things without his encouragement.

Last year as a high school senior, I never even thought of auditioning for anything, let alone for regional band. In fact, I was going to dismiss it until I asked Mr. David O. his opinion of what I should do. He had me go for the sake of receiving audition experience then helped me through my scales and etudes. A couple of months later it’s finally audition day and I got into regional band on my first try, which isn't as common or easy as one would think. As a clarinetist who has been playing for 8 years now, I have never improved as drastically in my music experience as I have with Mr. David O. and recommend him to anyone who has a love of music.

Tips for Singing: Why Practicing Scales Matters
It's a common misconception that singers and instrumentalists are two completely different types of musicians. They're actually much more alike than you might think! The difference is that, as singers, your instrument is your body! Because of this, as you learn how to sing, you'll likely come across some specific issues of technique. One of the most important things for singers to work on is singing notes that are perfectly in tune. Generally, producing the correct notes for an instrumentalist
Age or Aptitude: When to Start Violin Lessons
Some start optimistically young, others driven by passion start much later in life, but when is the right time to start violin lessons? Like any other form of art, there’s simply no black or white when it comes to exploring music. The right time to start can’t be measured exclusively by age. Some ambitious parents start their kids at the age of two, and while many go off to become YouTube sensations, a whole lot more tend to give up by the age of five. So what should you consider before diving
What Will My Child's Voice Lesson Be Like? | Tips for Parents

The Surprising Benefit of Learning Guitar Without Sheet Music

Here, Austin, TX teacher Samuel B. explains his teaching technique...   During my college years, I was given a brief introduction to instructional methods common to Japan. Specifically, I was told that playing the shamisen or the koto (two native stringed instruments) is a skill learned by way of the student facing the teacher and playin
