Jennifer G.

Spring, TX

Twenty years of experience working with students of all levels and ages has shaped me into the teacher I am today. Although I do tailor my sessions to suit the individual student, here are some expectations you can have of me.
Beginning students up to age 11 typically begin with the Bastien method. This curriculum is great at introducing interval recognition. I supplement this with fun pieces from Alfred, where students can strengthen sight reading skills. Flashcards are also used as reinforcement.
Older kids and adults will begin with Alfred's adult course and progress quickly into independent playing.

For all ages - After the student has reached a level of more independent playing, the student/parent will help select the direction in which we progress.Classical music, composition, and popular music are just a few of the possibilities!

All lesson books and materials are provided by me and are included in the cost of lessons. Students are welcome to provide additional pieces

About Jennifer

I have been teaching piano to students of all ages since 1992, both to individual students and groups. I taught with the Music Learning Center of Michigan. I have been a music teacher and choir director for a number of years as well. For eight years I have played the organ and piano for Church worship.

*** Lesson Details ***
Music should be appreciated and enjoyed. Lessons should be fun without sacrificing quality. This is the approach I offer to students. I focus on teaching independence through music theory and sight reading. Performance is an important part of learning so I provide two
recitals every year- one for Christmas and another in the spring, at the end of the school year.

*** Studio Equipment ***
Separate room dedicated to teaching with upright piano.

Ms.Jennifer is the most fantastical teacher ever, but really, she is. My sister and I (Grace) have been taking lesson for 6 years now and we've really enjoyed her the whole time. She works around our crazy (and I mean CRAZY) schedule, multiple times. Taking piano lessons from her has been a really fun experience and I'll keep doing it as l can. Now I'm in 6th grade and can read treble and bass clef and can play much more than I thought I would be able to when I first started.
Now to outdo Grace, Ms. Jennifer is sooo cool and the bestest (not a real word)teacher in the whole universe and has like superwoman powers on the piano. I totes(once again not a real word, that's just how good she is) recommend her.

Mrs. Jennifer has been the greatest most awesome teacher I have ever had. I started lessons when I was 9, and in 6 short years I've become a musician. I feel like I can read/play any piece of music (although I can't...at least not yet). I've learned so much by taking lessons with her. When I started, I barely knew how to read treble clef! Now, this year as a high school freshman, I was able to be in the marching band as a synthesizer player. I can't put into words how much she means to me! Not only is Mrs. Jennifer an amazing person, but she is an amazing teacher as well. I have so much fun at all of our (my sister and I) lessons and I'm dreading college, just because I can't have lessons every week with her. I couldn't have asked for a better role model, and I definitely recommend her as a piano teacher. (As long as she still has time to teach me)

Robert C.

Houston, TX

Even though guitar is my major instrument, I had to play piano all through college as part of my music degree. Therefore, I can help someone learn to play the piano from beginning to intermediate level.

About Robert

Robert began playing guitar in Houston, Texas at the age of 12. It was not long before he began playing in bands and played his first professional gig at age 17. Robert performed in and around the Houston area for five years before deciding to study music on the college level. He attended the University of North Texas and later attended Musicians Institute. While a student at MI, Robert was given the Outstanding Student of the Year Award for 1991-'92. Robert began teaching at MI in the guitar school (GIT) in 1993. He has played with Bo Diddley, Tim Bogert, Chevy Chase, Floyd Radford, Dea
con Jones, Joe Houston and countless others. He has performed for Buddy Ebson and Chevy Chase and has partied with the Monkees. In addition to playing guitar Robert also plays and teaches bass guitar and piano.

*** Lesson Details ***
Robert teaches serious beginners from ages 5-99. He can also help intermediate, advanced students and pro players fine tune their skills and learn to play the music they hear. His laid back but structured approach has helped many of his students over the years become solid musicians and attain their musical goals. Robert uses a combination of his own teaching materials combined with the best of what he has learned over the years studying with countless world class teachers and players. With his over 20 years of teaching experience he is able to synthesize all this knowledge and make it easily accessible to all of his students. Robert teaches a variety of styles which include blues, classic rock, R&B, pop, country and jazz. All lessons are tailored to the individual student's interests and goals. In addition to this Robert makes his lessons fun too!

Leni B.

Magnolia, TX

The object is to learn to plat the piano with total control and a beautiful sound.

About Leni

BA in Music, composition and conducting from Hunter College (City University of New York)
Diploma from the Conservatoire de Fontainebleau, France
Studied with Louise Talma, Jacques Louis Monod, Nadia Boulanger

Lessons are about learning to make music, not endless scales and arpeggios which so often lead to pain and injury. Tone production, sight reading, and age appropriate theory and interpretation are strong elements from the beginning.

An overwhelming percentage of young, enthusiastic and talented children are discouraged early and give up the piano because they do not make rapid p
rogress and therefore do not enjoy their lessons. Music is one of life's great joys. It should be fun. For the intermediate, and even the advanced, student, it is critical that much more attention be paid to the musicality of the playing and the understanding of the music. This leads to more beautiful playing and greater enjoyment.

*** Lesson Details ***
Lessons are designed for the needs of the individual student.

*** Studio Equipment ***
7' KAWAI concert grand
Basic video recording capability

*** Travel Equipment ***

*** Specialties ***
Concentration on interpretation, Theory, Solfege and ear training, and non injurious piano technique.

Leni is an inspiration of how one should approach teaching music. He avoids common issues that discourage others from learning. Leni doesn't drill you through endless exercises, or force you to play pieces such as "Twinkle Twinkle Little Star" for months at a time. Rather, he will teach you simpler, but still beautiful, pieces that teach you the fundamentals more effectively than endless drills. I was somewhat nervous because I have arthritis in my hands, but the non-injurious technique that Leni teaches is intended to be as soft on the hands as possible, and not utilize the fingers, which will cause fatigue and injury.

Leni also has a very clear concept of student potential, and will introduce things to you that seem mind-boggling, but by the end of the lesson, you will have accomplished things you couldn't have imagined possible. He does not stick to an ironclad curriculum that he has developed, and will design a plan based on each individual student. His flexibility, faith in his students, realistic approach, and teaching abilities will help you progress rapidly.

I’m a 37 year-old guy and I wasn’t sure it would be possible for me to pick up a new instrument, but Leni’s patience and easy going nature make it easy and fun. He’s such an inspiration.

I feel so privileged to have Leni as my teacher. He isn’t just some young guy fresh out of school who teaches you the basics. Leni is an educated and accomplished musician and his knowledge of music and the history of the classical music you work on is phenomenal. He’s the real deal.

One of the main things Leni focuses on is form. He teaches the Taubman Approach, which is an ergonomic way of using your hands to play. It makes it so much more comfortable to play and sets you up to learn faster and be able to play more difficult pieces as you progress.

Leni also teaches that learning a piece music is more than just learning the notes. He goes into the musicality of it and why the choices the composer made make sense. I also wasn’t really much into classical music, but the music he has me working on is so enjoyable, that practice doesn’t feel like work. It’s so exciting to see what the next piece is he’ll give me to work on.

5 satars all the way.

Mr. Leni B. is second to none. He holds a BA degree in music, piano, composition and conducting from Hunter College, the largest college in The City University of New York and obtains a Diploma from the Conservatoire de Fontainebleau, France, I have no doubt about his talents and expertise. His knowledge is tremendously fabulous. What a true musician he is! As an adult, I wonder if Mr. Leni B. would be patient with me. The answer is yes. He patiently teaches me, and corrects my hands using the Taubman Approach to avoid chronical hand, wrist and muscle injuries. I am incredibly grateful to have him for my piano teacher. His passion and dedication are beyond excellent and have been transferred to me. I have brought home with a lot of inspiration after each lesson. I love his analysis and interpretation of each beautiful piece of music. The atmosphere he creates is lovely, friendly, welcoming and open. It is fun to study under his supervision. His encouragement is another key for me to practice the piano everyday. I am absolutely proud of him. It is even multipled when I have figured out he has more talents than just music and piano which are already amazing. Mr. Leni B. is the best teacher because he teaches from the heart not from the book. He is too good to be true.

I highly recommend Mr. Leni B. to anyone who wants to take piano lessons for fun or seriously.
