Laurie is a conscientious instructor. She is knowledgeable and gentle in her guidance. As an adult student, I like the fact that she allows me to take the lead in what I want to play.

Whitney H.

Dallas, TX

I have only taught English abroad as a volunteer, which I thoroughly enjoyed. I am TEFL certified. I am willing to teach online.

About Whitney

*** Bit About Me ***
I am a classically trained pianist who competed in the Dallas/Ft. Worth area for 15 years (began lessons at age 5). I am currently in the process of obtaining my BSN and work at the VA Hospital. However, teaching (more specifically, teaching piano) is my passion! I genuinely enjoy helping my students accomplish the goals they set for themselves, whether it's to learn Bach, jazz, or pop.

*** What you can expect from me ***
We'll speak briefly about your expectations and schedule, then formulate a plan that will help you reach your goals. Whether your goal is to lea
rn scales by the end of the month, figure out where middle C is, or become a classical genius by the end of the year; we can make it happen. I do not expect you to learn the way I was taught (although if you want a strict regimen, I can provide that). I am a big believer in motivating you in the way that helps YOU succeed. I promise I am patient, pleasant and enjoy my job; you have nothing to be afraid of.

*** What I expect from you ***
I expect my students to practice; it is a crucial requirement for progress. Piano will require your time, energy and self discipline. Please respect my schedule; if you need to cancel, do so in the appropriate time frame. Most importantly, I want you to communicate honestly with me about your goals and if you want to readjust the "lesson plan," tell me. I am here to help you learn.

*** Equipment ***
I own a 1942 Kimball Consolette piano. She's old but she has soul. I have a variety of sheet music that we can make photocopies of and use. Please bring your workbooks/sheet music to every lesson. I have pencils (we mark in our music!) and a metronome. It is useful to download a metronome app on your phone for practice at home.

*** My Studio ***
I teach in a loft style condo with floor to ceiling windows. I do not have a private, designated seating area for parents. Also, my condo is undergoing renovations so it can be in disarray at times. However, I do not teach during construction hours so it will always be quiet and private during your lesson.

*** Specialties ***
I am a classically trained pianist who competed in the Dallas/Ft. Worth area for 15 years. I was trained to perform and compete only, playing songs that were required by competition guidelines. I participated in everything: Jazz, Sonatina, State, Solo, Ensemble, Regional, Hymn, you name it! This also means my "specialty" is classical music (Mozart, Bach, etc.)

Favorite music teacher.

I grew up playing the piano since age 3, fell out of love with the practice 10 years ago. One reason I stopped was the rigid unfocused direction I'd get from most teachers but Whitney's lessons are adaptive and help me increase my skill steadily and happily. Sometimes after lessons, we get into discussions about practice strategy, music theory, and she's always been open-minded towards all the different pieces I'd bring in to try. I especially appreciate that she's quick to catch and correct my mechanical flaws in a focused manner with the drills she'd pick out. Since practicing with Whitney, I've been able to work towards my previous level at the pace I prefer and recommend any students who'd enjoy more of an intuitive teacher.

If bees had knees, they'd name them Whitney. She's very supportive and adaptive to her students.

I am a first time player and she never makes me feel like i'm wasting her time or frustrating to work with.

I also have a crazy schedule that she is able to work around which may be the most important aspect of our relationship. She always is accommodating to all my issues which helps relieve the stress and challenge of learning something abstract.

Thanks Whitney!

Micah B.

Dallas, TX

I have a degree in English Literature from Boston University. I have written for a magazine, a newspaper, and am currently a City Correspondent for a travel website. I love giving the love of reading and writing to students. I haven't worked with a student yet that didn't love reading after taking lessons with me. I meet the student where he or she is at. I do not force Shakespeare on students with no interest in Shakespeare. I want to create the love of reading and writing, so we read and write about things that the student is interested in. This is how we become able to then read and write about things that are assigned to us in class. I will help all students master the art of reading literature and writing about it.

About Micah

First, I absolutely love my job, and I am 110% dedicated to your success. I give private lessons in my studio, small group lessons, after school Spanish programs at schools, and corporate English and Spanish programs at the office. Special pricing for 2+ students at the bottom of this profile.

Who I am: My name is Micah B., and I have a degree in English Literature from Boston University. I have lived in Spain and Mexico, learning Spanish and teaching English. I have also worked for a newspaper in Boston. I am fluent in English and Spanish, proficient in French, beginner in Japanese. Langua
ges are my deepest passion. I have mastered how to learn them and teach them.

I have been giving private and small group language lessons passionately and with fervor for 7 years. I started my own company, and it has been very successful. I organize English and Spanish programs at US and international companies. I have taught students from Japan (Hitachi), Korea (Samsung), Saudi Arabia (SMU graduate students), Spain (LBJ Express who is rebuilding highway 635), and many, many more. I give private lessons that fit each employee's needs: writing, pronunciation, fluency, grammar, vocabulary.

I also have after-school Spanish programs with two elementary schools in Dallas: Lakewood Elementary and White Rock Elementary. Ask me about how you can start a program at your school.

Whether you are an adult, teen or child, you will enjoy the classes and begin learning from the first moment we begin the lesson. I customize my lessons to your way of learning and at your pace. My entire focus is on my students and what they need to reach their goals. Speaking is encouraged from lesson one.

I am a dynamic, driven and determined tutor, not to mention fun! : )

Send me an email, and we will create a customized curriculum for you or your company. I am dedicated to help you reach your goals.

When I came to the US my English language level was not great. I had studied in school in Turkey, but my pronunciation was difficult to understand and the grammar was impossible for me. I have been taking classes for about 1.5 years now with Micah and another instructor that works for her, and I have improved a lot. I have even been giving presentations at my job now. I am an engineer.

I was not expecting to improve my level like that in 1.5 years. Learn English or Spanish LLC has talented teachers. Now I am planning to take the TOEFL in 6 months, and I will prepare for it with them. After that, my goal is a Masters degree. I highly recommend classes with them.

They are extremely effective teachers.

Micah is the most inspiring teacher. She helped me from eighth grade until senior year; from memorizing Spanish poetry to analyzing essays, we did everything and I understood everything. I felt super prepared for class every week and if I ever had an issue I would just email Micah. Without Micah I do not know if I would have continue to AP Spanish V in high school or if my love for the Spanish language would be the same. I adore Micah and all that she has taught me and my pleasant Spanish memories are all rooted with Micah. If you are looking for not just an amazing teacher but an idol, Micah is the one.

Once upon a time I got angry with myself and decided to put an end to my ignorance in English. I’ve already been settled in Dallas for five years and couldn’t string two words together in English. Both my husband and I went online and got absorbed in looking for a teacher. Our choice was Gabriela Anderson; we didn’t know why her ad attracted us.

For six months I took English lessons with Gabriela. Initially, I must admit, I was so scared of English that I nearly fainted whenever I heard it. Now all that is in the past. I can express myself maybe not as well as I would like to but pretty well, thanks to what Gabriela has taught me.
I’ve met not only a teacher but an intelligent responsible and good-natured person.
Thanks to Gabriela my outlook was widened, and I learnt a lot about American culture, history, and people. Together we listened to TV news and read books, and I learnt much that was new to me about American movies, writers, famous singers, actors, etc.
And I have to say that my life became much more interesting because my English is now fairly good. Thank you once again, Gabriela!
