Laurie is a conscientious instructor. She is knowledgeable and gentle in her guidance. As an adult student, I like the fact that she allows me to take the lead in what I want to play.

Whitney H. Dallas, TX

I have only taught English abroad as a volunteer, which I thoroughly enjoyed. I am TEFL certified. I am willing to teach online.

About Whitney

I am a classically trained pianist who competed in the Dallas/Ft. Worth area for 15 years (began lessons at age 5). While I do posses the training that allows me to instruct students who are interested in performance level musicianship, I by no means expect my students to desire this for themselves. My students have different interests and each are at a different skill level. Each student presents unique challenges, goals and progress so no matter what your interest/skill level is, we will make sure you are happy and successful. *** What you can expect from me *** We'll speak briefly about your expectations and schedule, then formulate a plan that will help you reach your goals. Whether your goal is to learn scales by the end of the month, figure out where middle C is, or ...

If bees had knees, they'd name them Whitney. She's very supportive and adaptive to her students.

I am a first time player and she never makes me feel like i'm wasting her time or frustrating to work with.

I also have a crazy schedule that she is able to work around which may be the most important aspect of our relationship. She always is accommodating to all my issues which helps relieve the stress and challenge of learning something abstract.

Thanks Whitney!

Excellent teacher for all levels!

While I played the cello as a child, I'm an adult beginner when it comes to piano.

I've been taking piano lessons from Whitney for a year, and I really like studying with her. When I first started, we sat down and talked about my goals. She was able to start with where I was (familiar with musical concepts, able to read the base clef, unfamiliar with treble, and baffled at how to make my hands work together) and have our lessons perfectly suited to what I need. It's a perfect balance so I can understand the basics, but we can breeze right through what I already know. Now I can play several songs that actually sounds like real music and I'm so excited!

I definitely have some goal pieces I'd like to play one day, and Whitney's been excellent at finding pieces for me to learn that are the incremental steps. We've also done fun pieces, like Halloween and Christmas songs, as well as Disney songs leading up to a trip I'm taking. She's amazing at helping me find pieces that are something I'm really interested in but that also challenge me just enough.

She helps me with technique, and especially helps me set up how to practice, so I can keep progressing without getting stuck with one warm up exercise.

Also, her studio is BEAUTIFUL.

Great teacher!

I am 60 years old and have returned to daily play and practice after sporadic playing for decades. I hired Whitney because I was working on pieces that quite frankly I felt I could not play. I asked her one day if she thought I could play Schubert's opus 90 no,1. Her answer was decisive. She said, "It's not so much whether I think you could play it (you could, you're able). The question is really will you do the necessary practice to produce that result?"
In a steady progression Whitney returned me to the basics necessary to build the skills for performance level. Starting with scales and the circle of fifths, the relative minor and arpeggio practice Whitney very quickly sharpened my skills to my previous performance level and then I experienced playing beyond what I thought I could do.
I am now fulfilling a lifetime dream of practicing and playing the Goldberg Variations by Bach, something I thought that I would never do.
I highly recommend this teacher, her training starts right where you are at.
Micah B. Dallas, TX

I have a degree in English Literature from Boston University. I have written for a magazine, a newspaper, and am currently a City Correspondent for a travel website. I love giving the love of reading and writing to students. I haven't worked with a student yet that didn't love reading after taking lessons with me. I meet the student where he or she is at. I do not force Shakespeare on students with no interest in Shakespeare. I want to create the love of reading and writing, so we read and write about things that the student is interested in. This is how we become able to then read and write about things that are assigned to us in class. I will help all students master the art of reading literature and writing about it.

About Micah

First, I absolutely love my job, and I am 110% dedicated to your success. My story: My name is Micah and I have a Bachelor's in English Literature from Boston University. I have lived in Europe and Mexico, learning Spanish and teaching English. I have also worked for a newspaper in Boston. I have been giving private and small group language lessons with my own company for 7 years. I teach English and Spanish to companies all over Dallas: US companies want to learn Spanish and companies from Korea, Japan, and Spain want to improve their English. And they hire me to help them reach their goals. I also have after-school programs with two elementary schools in Dallas, teaching Spanish to grades 3-6. Whether you are an adult, teen or child, you will enjoy the classes and begin ...

Micah is the most inspiring teacher. She helped me from eighth grade until senior year; from memorizing Spanish poetry to analyzing essays, we did everything and I understood everything. I felt super prepared for class every week and if I ever had an issue I would just email Micah. Without Micah I do not know if I would have continue to AP Spanish V in high school or if my love for the Spanish language would be the same. I adore Micah and all that she has taught me and my pleasant Spanish memories are all rooted with Micah. If you are looking for not just an amazing teacher but an idol, Micah is the one.

Micah is an amazing teacher. I have been working with her for about 2 years, and I truly enjoy her enthusiasm, energy, and extraordinary ability to teach. I started with the Spanish I remembered from high school and college (many years prior) and had a basic limited vocabulary. I have always enjoyed the language, and becoming proficient had been a goal of mine for a while. I run a busy real estate development company and I travel a lot - Micah comes to my office twice a week and provides me with not only lessons in grammar, vocabulary, and structure, but also encourages me to enjoy learning by introducing me to music, movies, and books in Spanish.
In addition to my face to face classes, Micah has introduced me to another of her teachers and I meet with Olivia twice a week at night on Skype.
Micah has an excellent understanding of language structure, vocabulary, and the quirks that, when she explains them, really make sense and help me learn at a deeper level. She has made learning Spanish a lot of fun because she gets my goals and how I need to learn. There really is no substitute for a great 'maestra' - Micah is brilliant at what she does, she is a professional, she loves to teach and it shows, and I would recommend her and her company to anyone who wants to learn English or Spanish.

I worked with Micah for about two years and I can say she is the best English teacher for foreigners I've ever met.
She understands the pain points which most of English speakers as second language usually experience and provide the effective guidance to improve themselves.
Shortly, she knows what should be taught and how to teach them.
Besides, she is very flexible and likes working with her students, which make the class fun.
