percussion and tempo recognition. techniques and style variation
As a drum instructor, I use a groove orientated approach to get the students deep in the pocket, I teach students how to sight read the Drum set Legend. I organize beats into 4 (four) main categories (classic rock, modern rock, hip-hop, and rap, as well as additional styles) while also breaking down each category into, a multitude of sub-styles. I stress the importance of developing a good hand technique, with snare drum rudiments, good hand and foot technique with drum set rudiments, and poly-rhythmic technique with poly-rhythmic rudiments. I believe drum lessons should not just be so tedious, so I usually assign a simple song or two to keep the students interest and allow creative process through improvisation, all the while providing different ride cymbal patterns to gain the ability to play along with any rhythm on the bass drum and snare.
I picked up the drums at an early age. Played in a bunch of bands growing up. The drums are such a fun and physical instrument, using your whole body. The energy it brings is truly unmatched. I will guide you step by step in playing a full drum kit, learning limb independence to create rocking drum beats.

I've been teaching Music for 5 plus years and my students have gone on to accomplish great things. My goal and challenge for every student is to teach them how to play, read and listen to music. This will enable them the ability to play any song and any style of music. I specialize in Jazz, R&B and Classical. Typically I learn my students leaning habits whether its hands on or visual and their attention span, so I can't effectively teach my students. I Can't wait to meet you!

dy for me and all of his other students. Many years ago, I was lucky enough to have a professor in the Civil & Environmental Engineering Department at UCLA who had the ability to provide the perfect amount of background, not too much, not too little, in his graduate courses so that no matter what the student’s undergraduate degree was in, there was never a problem with them understanding the newly introduced graduate level concepts. And now, I am lucky enough that I found a drum instructor who was willing to take on an old guy (remember the many, many years ago stuff above ) and work around my problems with arthritis, senior moments, bad vision, and an occasional decrease in motivation. While I am probably his oldest student (a distinction I could have lived without), I have listened to him work with several younger, in some cases way younger, students and he is another one of those special people who can teach. Not everybody can teach. Of those that can, many don’t teach well. And, of those that can teach well, not all of them can teach well to people with a broad range of backgrounds, skill sets, motivations, and ages. Tony has the ability to teach well, no matter what your circumstances."
