Sharon is the second piano teacher my daughter had and now she has been with her for 2+ years, 1 lesson/week except on holidays. We love her very much, she is very knowledgeable about the music theory and piano playing skills. My daughter has been progressing nicely and just recently she received a lot of compliments from the audience at her recital. Sharon is a very inspiring teacher, she helps the little girl build self-confidence. She also has a very nice teaching room.

Amanda B.

West Chester, PA

About Amanda

I am currently studying at West Chester University of Pennsylvania majoring in Violin Performance, with oboe as my minor instrument. I perform with the Symphony Orchestra, Chamber Orchestra, Opera Orchestra, Baroque Ensemble and many other small ensembles on campus. I am also an active performer in the local area, and I especially enjoy playing in operas and musical theater. I have experience playing classical, fiddle and rock genres, with my focus being classical. I have been furthering my teaching skills through American String Teachers Association membership, Suzuki training, and pedagogy s
tudy at the Starling-Delay Symposium on Violin Studies held at The Julliard School.

I work to help students create and achieve their musical goals. Every student goes home with a list of points covered in their lesson so they know exactly what must be practiced for the upcoming lessons. This list helps students practice in a more focused fashion so they can improve as steadily and quickly as possible. I customize my teaching style for each student to ensure that they get the most out of lessons. Students with longer lessons (45min or more) can benefit from music theory workbooks and games which I incorporate into the lessons. My goal is to make every lesson fun and challenging for my students!

I give my students multiple performance opportunities each year. The past two years I had a formal spring recitals where my students had the experience of playing with an accompanist in a recital hall. Another performance opportunity I offered in the past was a more casual Duet Day where my students and I performed duets for their family and the community in a park. Of course, these opportunities change from year to year, but the emphasis is always on having fun in performance!

Crystal B.

Coatesville, PA

About Crystal

A saxophonist by trade, I, Crystal B., have been privately instructing for six years. The ultimate goal of my teaching style is for my students to become well-rounded musicians. I achieve this by providing individuals with a solid foundation in basic music theory (i.e. scale structures) in order to understand any music that is presented to them, and challenge them with site reading exercises. A better understanding of music leads to the true enjoyment of playing music.

As a freelance musician, I am a woodwind doubler within the Philadelphia circuit. A versatile player, I have performed in s
hows including Thoroughly Modern Millie with the Upper Darby Summer Stage, Fiddler on the Roof also with the Upper Darby Summer Stage, and A Chorus Line with the Swarthmore Player’s Club, while simultaneously performing with jazz band The Big Band Theory.

I currently attends WCU for music education and performance under the tutelage of saxophone professor Greg Riley, who holds a doctorate in music from USC. Also, I continue to develop my clarinet and flute knowledge with Dr. Stephanie Esposito (The Shenandoah Conservatory).

I am a former student of New England Conservatory along with Brad and I played several gigs with him. Brad has a great demeanor and he's very easy to work with. Beyond this, he is a great creative partner who gives and takes criticism easily. He has a firm knowledge of his instrument as well as music theory. Brad has a genuine interest in his students success as well as his colleagues. He understands how fun music can be and has a great sense of humor that lends itself to teaching.

Music Theory · In home
I never thought I would confidently understand music theory, even after years of practice, self-teaching, college electives, etc... I just never felt like I "got" it. Brad changed all that. Studying music theory with Brad's guidance and encouragement, I quickly began to feel as though I could "speak" music fluently.

Brad is a phenomenal teacher, and can adapt to almost any situation. If I wasn't understanding something, he never got frustrated, he would find a way to explain it differently until something finally stuck. That's very important I think. I've had too many teachers give up and say, "If you don't get this, you never will." Brad doesn't think like that. To him, "just not getting it" isn't an option. If you want to learn something, he'll find a way to teach it to you.

I studied music theory with Brad my senior year of high school, and it was the best decision I could have made! Brad fully prepared me for college-level theory at a conservatory, and I have excelled as a performer because of the great theory background Brad provided me with. He knows music theory inside and out, and he is able to adapt his teaching skills for any student. Thanks for all your help, Brad!

Allison is a fantastic instructor. I had no experience playing piano or with anything related to music. She's taught me how to read music, play basic songs, and patience because learning music is tough when, like me, you start with no prior knowledge. I will continue taking piano lessons with her and improving the already solid base she has given me.
