My teenage son was skeptical about taking private trumpet lessons. But to my surprise he seem to be enjoying them so far. I think Tom is a great teacher. According to my son, he is a very good listener and provides good feedback on what he needs to improve on. It is definitely worth an hour drive each way.

As both a piano teacher and a voice teacher I am always teaching music theory. I have been told by professors that I have a very unique way of approaching music theory and offer students multiple ways of learning and understanding the concepts.

AP music theory tutoring
Undergraduate music theory

About Shannon
I hold a Bachelors of Education in Music from Florida Atlantic University. I have been teaching music for the last 4 years to students of all ages (5-65 and up). I have experience teaching in public schools in a classroom environment! Finally I am a trained music together teacher teaching in Boulder, CO.

Music has a way of reaching us all and helping us become more sensitive, compassionate, creative people. The study of music has been linked to better test scores, more creative minds, and increased critical thinking abilities. For adults returning to music or picking it up for the first time can be a rewarding hobby, a hidden passion or desire, or a change of schedule.

Music can be for anyone!

*** Lesson Details ***
Lessons are designed for each individual student. No two students learn the exact same way, so no two lesson
s will be exactly the same. I expect students to practice and be prepared for every lesson and be ready each and every time to learn something new. "Perfect practice makes perfect."

All piano students should be prepared begin to learning in the classical style. This course of study covers all the basics necessary to study all genres of music and will insure students learn the rudiments and technique needed for more difficult music. Piano students will be exposed to different styles of music as they progress and will also study and practice music theory, ear training, sight reading and learn about the history of music.

Voice students will be exposed to classical voice technique as well as music of their own style choice. Like piano, selections made are meant to teach the techniques involved in singing in a healthy and supported manner. Voice students will also be exposed to ear training, sight-singing, music theory and music history and will not just be singers but well rounded musicians.

**I only accept voice students 10 years of age and older and prefer ages 14 and older. As the voice is part of body it is subject to the changes involved with growing up and is still "growing" with the student. Younger students will be on a case by case basis.

*** Studio Equipment ***
It is recommended for voice students to have a recording device readily available as well as a keyboard or piano. Students/parents will be responsible for the purchasing of any music books through the teacher when required.

A piano or keyboard will be required for all piano students for practice purposes. Students/parents will be responsible for the purchasing of any music books through the teacher when required.

*** Travel Equipment ***
Students will need access to a piano or keyboard (88 keys preferably weighted) for all piano and voice lessons. It is also recommended for voice students to have a recording device readily available. Students/parents will be responsible for the purchasing of any music books required.

*** Specialties ***
Specialize in teaching beginning to intermediate piano age 5- and up
Have experience working with special needs children.

Music has many different elements that comprise it. These include but are not limited to: pitch, pulse, rhythm, melody, harmony, texture, arrangement, timbre/color, expressive qualities (dynamics and articulation), and form or structure. From these basic building blocks, all theoretical material that can be studied has come to be. This material when understood and employed can further your growth as a musician exponentially, and can assist you in writing music, sight-reading, as well as virtually any creative activity involving music.

About Jonathan
Hi, I'm Jonathan; I’m a trumpeter, composer and music educator from New York City. I have been working as a trumpeter, composer, arranger, and studio musician for almost 2 decades and have been teaching full-time for the past 7, which includes nearly 3 at the University level.

Most of the subjects I teach are music related, in which I have nearly 10 years of Conservatory training, a Bachelor's degree, Master's degree, 2.5 years of Doctoral work, as well as over 17 years experience performing, recording, and competing on an international level. However, my interests, practices, and skillsets do extend beyond sound and visual art, and in the realm of philosophy, science, physics and spirituality.

As an artist and composer, I’ve been recognized internationally, by way of several organizations: 1st place in the International Trumpet Gu
ild Jazz Trumpet Solo Competition, finalist in the Carmine Caruso International Jazz Trumpet Solo Competition, recipient of the ASCAP Herb Alpert Young Jazz Composer Award, selected-participant at the Banff International Summer Intensive Program in Jazz and Creative Music and the School of Improvisational Music Summer Intensive Program, recipient of 5 Semi-Finalist selections and 1 finalist/honorable-mention selection in the International Songwriting Competition.

As an educator, I have taught all-level/all-age group music playing and appreciation courses for several New York-based organizations: The Afro-Latin Jazz Academy, The Gramercy Brass Orchestra of New York, New York Ensemble Classes, the Lyceum Kennedy International School, Jubilee Enrichment Programs, and The New York Jazz Academy. Currently, I am finishing 6 semesters of service as a Graduate Part-Time Instructor at the University of Colorado, Boulder, where I teach multiple ensembles as well as a 100+ student History of Jazz lecture class.

I have also been practicing various forms of meditation practices and Yoga practices for the past 5 years. My influences span from Astral Projection to Reiki, to Vipassana Meditation, to Visualization Techniques, and much more. I believe and live by the idea that creativity is an energy that flows through us, and one's creative abilities can be improved and expanded, through the emotional body, which is influenced by one's perceptions. Throughout my training in music and the arts, I have realized that creative flow and love for what one is and does can be applied to anything in life.

Because of my 7+ years experience as a professional artist living in New York City, my students receive both guidance in discovering their own voice and comfort within their desired field of practice, and also practical approaches to retain and utilize their training and pre-ordained skill sets, with self-application and diligence. Through study with me, my students enable themselves to swiftly make progress and move toward a life of renewed purpose and fulfilment. Through specific assignments, exercises, and practices my students foster a real relationship with their instruments, and themselves, thus unlocking their creative minds, for usage in all aspects of their lives.

I teach out of a my home apartment studio on the upper east side, complete with weighted 88-key digital piano, Bose high quality speakers, recording equipment, as well as musical media, and tablature spanning many musical genres, cultures and time periods. I also am equipped with a spacious floor space for Yoga, Pilates, Weight Lifting, Meditation, and more. Additionally, I am able to travel to any location within the five boroughs for an additional travel fee (TBD based on location).

While I specialize in the following broad areas of musical study, my specialties are not limited to: General Music, Composition, Arranging, Ear Training, Music History (includes classical, jazz, and world musics), Music Theory, Sight Singing, and Songwriting. I also specialize in the following instruments: Trumpet, flugelhorn, and Piano/Keyboards.

I look forward to helping you realize your potential! Let's get started...

He is very patient with my five year old and encourages her to get her very best effort. Jonathan customizes the music and lessons for my daughter’s skill level while at the same time provides challenges to keep the learning process interesting. Over their time with me, they will have the skills to coach themselves when they practice and tackle any music they come across.

Weronika is my 13 year-old daughter's flute instructor flute (three months). Mary is a beginner, however, in this short amount of time, she had made significant progress. She is already playing many songs, preparing for a recital and enthusiastically asks Weronika to teach her more.

This is not surprising as Weronika has a kind, friendly, patient, and caring personality that makes my daughter feel very comfortable during their lessons. At the same time, she maintains very high expectations for her students. She frequently asks my daughter questions about music theory or the composer's intentions to get her thinking about what she is doing. She gives my daughter frequent feedback and asks my daughter to share her thoughts on performance goals as well.

Weronika is gifted as a flutist and an amazing teacher. She truly inspires my daughter to do her best. We highly recommend Weronika to other families.

Weronika is a dedicated, fun, creative, and passionate teacher. I can't recommend her enough! I teach cello at a community music school in Massachusetts where she taught musicianship and served as chair of our musicianship department. Under her leadership, the quality of the department improved immensely. Weronika went the extra mile to develop a curriculum for our school to use, and I know my students benefited greatly from her efforts. She is sorely missed here!

Weronika is a skilled educator, a talented musician, and a fun person. I learned much from her as an advanced adult student; however, I could tell from studio recitals that she works well with people of all ages and levels. I liked that Weronika encouraged me to trust my own musical instincts and was open to experimenting and exploring creative options. She fully supported my musical growth and interests and provided helpful feedback. I also liked that she incorporated movement into lessons, which was helpful for practicing rhythm and phrase.

Learn the basic harmonic structures western-music has used since it's first real display in post-renaissance polyphonic music. Learn the basics and quickly see its usage all the way up to todays top 40 and everything in between. Not all theory needs writing! How do you develop a chord? Why do some chords work better than others? How do I know what key to solo in? how do I learn to solo? How do I get better at writing music and generating musical ideas?

About Aidan
Hi, my name is Aidan. I'm a composer, performer, guitar instructor and band leader. I teach at my apartment in City Park or can drive to the student within the Denver area.

I am a Hampshire College music program graduate who has taught students of various ages, skills, and music preferences. I play guitar, compose, and tour with my band Freddy & the Yetis, and just spent the last three years living in Boston to study with one of Berklee's senior professors. Ive played hundreds of gigs in my life. I am also a background-checked certified member of the Music Teachers National Association.

My goal with students is to encourage both a love of music and the guitar as an instrument for personal expression. I want to see my students playing the music they enjoy as soon as possible. Every student is treated as an individual. Their needs, a
bilities and learning style are taken into consideration. I use this information to design a student specific curriculum. The experience should be fun and educational for the student.

Various openings 9am - 10pm
Prices are negotiable depending on location

I encourage students to take one or two lessons per week at a regularly scheduled time. References are available.

"Aidan has been teaching my 12-year old son guitar for the last year. He started with the basics in technique and later worked with him on music appreciation. My son really enjoyed his easy-going and attentive nature and attitude. Aidan was always punctual and respectful of our schedule. I feel my son learned a lot about music and he enjoyed working with Aidan."

Aidan is a terrific teacher!! I played professionally over 35 years ago and have not played at all since. At this point I could not play ANYTHING. He took me back through the basics and got me thinking the way I did when I was in my teens. Clearly he has the technical aspect of both music and teaching down - but what made him a great teacher to me is his love of music and guitar. Reminded me of why I loved it in the first place. Although we didn't match up on style perfectly - he embraced the music that I loved and got me back up and running - could not give him a higher recommendation!!

Can you imagine being able to understand the fundamental principles of all music and be able to apply them in your everyday experience of music? It is both possible and rewarding.

Music is built upon very distinct principles and understanding the way it works can help you compose your own, play your instrument of choice better, and even enjoy the music you already listen to more. Studying music theory is a very good way to dive deeper into understanding why music works the way it does.

I have studied music for over a decade. I've played piano for 12 years and developed perfect pitch, music reading and a thorough knowledge of theory from playing it. I have played the trumpet for almost as long and played lead trumpet in jazz band and the wind ensemble. I also have composed music for these groups as well as piano and arranged and transcribed music in various circumstances. I have taken college-level courses in music composition, music theory and music history/traditions.
