Hi, I’m Kelly the traveling cello teacher! I have been playing the cello for 21 years and received a B.A. in music performance from Brigham Young University in 2020. I began taking lessons at the age of 5 and have studied under many wonderful teachers, conductors, and coaches, who helped me discover the joy and fulfillment that comes from expressing yourself through music. I have taught a variety of students of different ages, backgrounds, and physical abilities, and have learned that everyone can grow and benefit from playing music. In my studio, you will learn how to play with proper form and technique, how to read music, how to practice effectively and perform confidently, and most importantly you will learn to express yourself and SING with the cello.

Nice to meet you! My name is Eunice and I am a cello teacher. I received my bachelor and master degree in cello performance at the New England Conservatory of Music, and am currently pursuing my doctorate degree in cello performance at Indiana University. I am a teaching artist for the Boston Philharmonic teaching artist program where I teach elementary and middle school, and adult students in group settings, private lessons, as well as orchestra sectionals. I am also a part of the music program “Teach to Learn” as a cello mentor where I have virtually connected and taught cello to a student from Syria.

I will help you develop technique, musicality, and rhythmical skills that will make way for a freedom of expression. Solid technique is necessary for one to make music. The more tools one has the more variety and dimensions the music has. This will be done through emphasis and practice of scales, etudes, cello method books, as well as caprices for students who are more advanced.

Aloha! I'm Mr. B, a former public school orchestra teacher turned mailman. In 2018 my family had the wonderful opportunity to relocate to the island of Maui where I took a position as a letter carrier with USPS. Now that I'm settled, I'm excited to get back to teaching cello. I have 4 years of public school instruction teaching 5th-12th grade orchestra and 7 years of private instruction on cello. I have played cello for the University of Evansville, the University of Findlay, the University of Southern Indiana, Heidelberg University, The Firelands Symphony, The Bowling Green Symphony, and the Croswell Opera House. I have a relaxed, realistic teaching style that is student-centered and rooted in Suzuki's Every Child Can philosophy. I hold a Bachelor's Degree in Music Education, Cum Laude, from Eastern Michigan University and have completed training on Suzuki Cello Books 1 & 2.

It is my foremost belief as a teacher that my students are truly capable of anything they set their mind to. I teach with positive reinforcement and never judgement to create a warm and comfortable environment that fosters and nurtures potential! I see teaching as more than teaching a person to learn the cello, but as an opportunity to accompany students on their journey towards embracing who they are, creating meaningful art, and connecting to the world through music.

No matter the age or prior experience of the student, you can expect a heavy focus on establishing a firm foundation of cello technique. Without this foundation, the student can only progress so much. With the foundation set and solid, the possibilities are endless! I teach tension-free cello playing. There should never be pain or discomfort anywhere in the body which is why I have such a large focus on establishing proper technique.

Ultimately, it takes courage to put effort towards learning an instrument and I ...

"Johnny is an excellent, well-rounded teacher. The lesson I took with him was packed full of superb teaching points; such as bowing exercises to help with bowing complexities, helpful fingerings for awkward passages within a composition of music, and terrific rhythmical suggestions to help with complex rhythms in a passage of music. I highly recommend him for any cellist; whether they're first starting out or they are just looking for someone who needs an ear for an audition and needs some advice!"

"A storm had our session a bit laggy, but we overcame that obstacle. Naomi started simple and went over basic foundational aspects such as parts of the instrument, proper posture and body positioning, and tuning.

After that we moved on to intonation on the C major scale. A lot of musical theory was discussed throughout the lesson and she was very good at explaining the concepts. I already highly recommend her, and will continue lessons, so you should start."

What is the Suzuki Cello Method?

The Suzuki method, founded in 1945 by violinist Shinichi Suzuki as the Talent Education Movement, is one of the most enduring teaching methods, or pedagogies for young string players. Suzuki’s main goal for his music education system was to give students a “noble spirit,” which would instill respect and cooperation through his method. The method was brought to America in the 1960s by John D. Kendall, and today the Suzuki Association of the Americas instructs new teachers and studen …
