Exactly what you want in an instructor: knowledgeable, patient, and supportive!

As an adult learner who plays multiple instruments, I’ve had every type of teacher you can imagine. It’s always a struggle to find a teacher able to work with the unique requirements of being an adult with adult obligations and time constraints.

Tom, as it turns out, is that rare teacher able to not just handle these unique requirements, but is also fantastic at finding and focusing on knowledge gaps, whether it be playing, theory, tone, or anything else I throw at him.

Prior to taking lessons with Tom, I had barely held a trumpet, and I’m progressing at a rate far faster than I had imagined I would.

So don’t bother looking elsewhere, Tom is who you need!

My two basic goals at the core of my teaching philosophy:
To help the students develop the skills on the trumpet, through technical and physical development, with the long-range goal of developing a student’s ability to successfully pursue a career of teaching and/or performing if that is their choice.
To help bring his or her soul into each performance on the trumpet, and to help the student learn to tell a story, paint a picture, and create a mood – the language of the music.

About Dr. Arthur

Arthur as a professional trumpet player is a skilled musician in classical, commercial, and jazz idioms and has been one of L.A.’s and New York's first call trumpeters for commercial recordings, television and motion pictures, and live theater. He has contributed to albums for many popular artists,

Because the lessons are in our home, it’s been a very relaxed, enjoyable experience for our son and that was important to us. His former teacher was great, but Dr. Pugh has pushed him to an entirely different place musically. Dr. Pugh’s professionalism and enthusiasm for music are inspiring and he has brought our son’s trumpet playing to another level.

I am a professional trumpet player, playing for the Royal Guards in Copenhagen, Denmark. More than that I am an excellent cornet player, playing for Eikanger-Bjorsvik Musikklag in Norway, former principal with both Swedish, Swiss, danish and English bands.
Through my career in classical music and brass band playing, I have taught and worked with a lot of different players. Both trumpet, soprano and cornet players, from 7 y/o to 67 y/o.
Nobody is too old or young to learn if the motivation is there!

About Stanley

I'm a danish trumpet and cornet pro player. I have a professional job, so I know about auditions! For the beginners or intermediate level, I have a lot of great material to work on, as well as a lot of great ideas how to work on specific issues, as I have been teaching a lot of students through the

"My son has been a trumpet student with Phil Norris for the past 3 years. I am very pleased with the instruction. Phil continues to work with Alex to improve his embouchure through various lip exercises and slurs. Also, works on diaphragm strength through various exercise. Alex is one of the top trumpet players at his school as a freshman. His range and tone has dramatically improved since working with Phil. Phil is fun and engaging as well. I highly recommend Phil to anyone looking for a competent and skilled music instructor."

"I first met Andrew when I joined the Temple University Diamond Marching Band. Andrew was the trumpet section leader and breath tech, and he made it his goal to ensure that everyone in the section could improve as much as possible by focusing in on the aspects of each individual's playing. In addition to knowing a lot about the trumpet and trumpet playing, Andrew was exceptionally friendly to everyone he worked with. He was always willing to offer advice not just about trumpet, but life in general, and he has greatly contributed to my trumpet playing and attitude towards life. I would recommend Andrew to anyone looking to improve their trumpet playing."

"I wasn't sure how trumpet lessons would go online as it seems like it would be one of the harder things to teach at a distance. But the first lesson with my middle son went great! David (my son) took to Jeremy pretty quickly, which is a great sign as David doesn't really like "new" people. But he left his lesson excited about what they would be doing the following week.

I also wanted to mention Jeremy's follow up with me was cool in that he recommended a book for David and went the extra step to link it to both Amazon and a local music store to be sure I easily found the correct book. It's the little things like that that show tutors that care about going the extra step to make everything go smoothly."
