I welcome piano students of all ages and levels of experience. I don't have a set curriculum or required method book, as I feel that it's important to tailor lessons to the individual student. I work with my students to learn how to read music and feel it's important to include theory and ear training to have a more complete understanding of how and why we do what we do as we're playing. I specialize in classical music, but am happy to work on music from other genres such as rock, pop, and Broadway, or others. I feel this allows my students to be fully engaged at their lessons when the music we're working on is something that interests them.

About Molly

I have loved music almost all my life. I began my lifelong journey to immerse myself in learning piano at age seven. At thirteen, I added violin lessons as well. By the time I reached high school, I knew that music would be my major in college, and that music would always be a vital part of my life

Molly is teaching my five- and eight-year-old daughters. The books and lessons are age appropriate, and the girls really enjoy the lessons and like Molly. They are making good progress. We're very pleased.
James
Very nice teacher. Let you know the basics when you need to know it.
Yvonne
Molly built in some flexibility in our lesson, which was nice. As an adult, she asked my goals and suggested that we build in some music I played as a child—that we could find easier formats of the songs or find easier pieces within that childhood piano book. I like that Molly has availability on weekends too because it is hard for me to be across town after work.

David teaches lessons to me and to my six-year-old son. He has made our piano experience relaxed and fun which had changed the trajectory of my son's attitude toward the piano. He has an ability to gauge what an individual wants out of the experience and enthusiastically be there to make sure that individual gets the most out of it.

Playing the piano or keyboards is about more than boring piano lessons, it’s about skills you can use in real life.

1. Learning to Play Notes. It’s what piano lessons have always been about. And sure we’ll do it. But unless you are preparing to go to college and major in piano, it’s doubtful it’s all you need to know.

2. Learning to Play Charts. THIS is what you probably need to know most to be a successful and fulfilled piano or keyboard player. Maybe you want to play in a band, or at church, or just jam with friends. Knowing how to read music charts will give you the ability to play along with any kind of music in any situation. You’ll learn how to improvise both chords and rhythm.

3. What Do You Want to Play? Why just play what others want you play? Or play notes anyone could learn how to play? We’ll talk about what you want to play whether it’s your own music, or the latest Ed Sheehan tune.

4. Make Up Stuff. This especially for folks who want to write music. Or maybe ...

I am a musician of 20+ years that passionately enjoys teaching and helping students new to music in discovering and developing their skills and aptitude for music. I have performed live on many occasions in contemporary and religious settings. I come from a musical family: My father made an album in 1969 with Bob Seger and wrote nearly half of the music on the album. My brother was a part of a musical group that produced songs that made it to a Hollywood movie. I play multiple musical instruments and can help students learn some of their favorite songs based on their level of skill. I teach out of my home in Sterling Heights, Michigan. My goal is to help students develop an interest in music and an appreciation for the history and development of music. It is also my goal to help students develop their skill in music to a place where they can become independent in their growth and exploration of music, music writing, and music performance.

Today was my first lesson with Aaron. He was professional and works with a planned curriculum that we then tailored to fit my particular needs. His attention to the basics (I'm a beginner) with plans for where to work on improvements made me feel at ease and confident that we will be able to work together long term to reach my goals, and likely exceed them.

My son is 15 and is on the Autistic spectrum, so finding someone who is patient and willing to teach a student who is not always clear with his communication could have been a real challenge. Karen has been a wonderful instructor and my son looks forward to every lesson he gets with her. His progress has been impressive and we are grateful that Karen has helped to foster the love for piano that he has now."

"I am an adult learner and have just finished my first five piano lessons with Richard and have already booked up five more! I have been working through the excellent Piano Pronto series with him, but Richard has also been happy to set me practice pieces from other books of my choosing and has been very adept at helping me, even with pieces that are unfamiliar to him.

Richard is also a teacher on Piano Maestro, an iPad application where you can, among other things, play the pieces from Piano Pronto (and Alfred's). This has been a great way to practice, and would be especially good for children (as Richard gets a weekly progress report, including time played).

Richard is very flexible and teaches each lesson at my pace - so, the more I practice, the more I can progress! He is patient and encouraging and clearly wants me to enjoy each lesson - and I do! I can't wait to begin my next block of lessons!"
