I enjoy tailoring my lessons to the individual's goals and interests, with emphasis on learning songs of choice by the student (in addition to my own recommendations). Drum notation and will be provided and discussed, and I am happy to offer transcription guidance and practice for individualized pieces. Fundamental theory will be supplemented while learning songs, and the student can decide how deep into theory they would like to go.

I am thrilled to hear that you or your kid is ready to start taking drum lessons! I have been teaching drum set and percussion for eleven years, and last year finished my master's in percussion performance at CU, after a music education degree in Michigan.
I start students off with "repeat after me" style exercises to develop technique, coordination, and musical tone on the instruments. Then, we can dig into playing the music (s)he loves! I'm always curious to hear if there is a certain band or drummer my student admires?
About Stephen
Hey drummers! I am a working drummer and percussionist in all major styles, from blues, funk, and jazz to classical and marching band. In my off time, I enjoy playing in the mountains with my girlfriend and our cat.

On time, very professional, amazing skill-set and very patient with my child. We feel fortunate to have Mark as an instructor.
Markâs incredible skill as a drummer is only matched by his abilities as a teacher. In just a short time with Markâs instruction, I have made vast improvements in my drumming. At my first lesson with Mark, he determined my skill level and what I sought to achieve with my lessons. Almost immediately, the fundamentals Mark showed me were translating into my drumming with my band. Mark has opened doors in my playing that I didnât know existed. Mark is incredibly patient and really cares about ensuring I receive significant benefit from my lessons. Mark really goes out of his way to make sure I fully grasp everything he shows me. I would highly recommend Mark for anyone who wants to learn from a true master at his craft and from a teacher who takes pride in his students and his teaching. Thank you Mark!!
I have had many different types of music teachers through out my life and Mark is by far the best. He is very serious about helping his students do what they want to do. I had specific goals I wanted to accomplish. Mark took my goals seriously and did what he could to help me understand the techniques to be a good drummer. He broke things down in to little steps that helped me to practice on my own and figure specific drum patterns out, He gave me the tools to improve myself as a musician, Mark did not have to but he chose to put a lot of his own time in to teaching me what I wanted to learn He obviously cares about his students and takes them seriously. I highly recommend him to any future students

David is an excellent teacher and his dependability has helped my son so much and encouraged him to want to be great and he is already thinking of the next instrument he would like to master after he "masters the drums". Thank you David"

As you continue your drum lessons and refine your grooves, you will also want to work on your fills. Drum fills are are the glue and the flash that signal the transitions of sections in a tune (and they’re a departure from the groove). As their name implies, they fill the space in the music between transitions. They can also se …
