About Chase
I started playing guitar when I was in the 8th grade. At that time I was into punk, and as I got older I moved into listening to classic rock, then blues, then all sorts of jazz and jam bands, and now classical and sacred art. And my playing of the guitar has following the same trajectory: I played in the style I listened to. One common thread through all of this has been an, at first unconscious, but now fully conscious focus on the art of improvisation.

Improvisation is central in my own playing, and what I deliberately bring my students to do. And this is not something vainly individualistic. Franz Liszt, Beethoven, Mozart, Bach, Chopin; Coltrane, Miles; Ravi Shankar, Ali Akbar Khan; Hendrix, Jimmy Page, Clapton; SRV, Albert King, BB King: what do all of these musicians have in common? They improvised, and were very good at
it in their respective genres. Improvisation is a truly important aspect of playing music, and one which I will give due focus to. Besides this, I will teach the student technique, chords, scales, songs (chosen by both the student and, at times, myself), and later on: theory (including harmony and ear training).

I have a Master's Certificate in Theory, Harmony and Ear Training from Berklee College of Music's online extension.

I am very patient with my students. I focus on the qualities of effortless action, patience, contentment with our current abilities while striving to attain (eventual) mastery.

Chase and I did not work together long because of other commitments. However, in the short time we did work together I learned a lot. Chase is easy going, highly skilled, very patient, and his teaching style is such that it fosters student confidence. I was really nervous at first, because I wasn't sure what to expect. Chase quickly made me feel at ease during the lesson. We only had half hour lessons, but that was definitely enough time to learn new materiel and make progress. I highly recommend him for guitar lessons.

An Excellent Teacher!

Our daughter Charis has taken lessons from Chase for over 2 years. From the first lesson, his patient demeanor put her completely at ease. During that time we have seen her understanding of music and her love for guitar continue to grow.

Chase has a unique way of challenging his students to stretch in their ability while simultaneously making it a great deal of fun. I would absolutely recommend him to both the new and seasoned student alike.

*** Lesson Details ***
I am interested in teaching you what you need and want to learn so that you achieve your dreams. Please note that I only take serious students who will practice at least 30 minutes every day or 35 a day 6 days a week at home. I would like you to keep a log of how much you practice. This will enable you to make progress through the curriculum as you will be a beginner for the first 3.3 years, an intermediate for the next 3.3 years, and then an advanced student for 3.3 years. I will give you assignments to do over the week, and the next week we will go over them, learn something new and get new assignments. It takes 10,000 hours of practice to become an expert!

Dr. Maureen Spranza, is a great music teacher, my son is taking piano classes with her and I'm very grateful with her, because she always take the extra time to make sure my kid is learning, my kid loves Mrs. Maureen because she is a great teacher but also she is a great human being, she really cares about her students. And she not only plays the piano, she plays all the instruments, I hope to see my son become a great musician thanks to the dedication that Maureen puts in his classes, my kid loves his piano classes, every time after clases he came home very exited to practice what he learned and al of this if because Dr. Maureen encourage him to be better in Avery class

Dr. Spranza is one of the best piano teachers in the Bay Area. My two daughters take weekly lessons with her. She encourages them and empowers them to do their best. She teaches them both theory and practicals. They have participated in an informal recital and are now registered to take part in the MTAC Certificate of Merit program.

As parents, we see a big improvement in our daughters' piano playing skills. They even practice on their own, without us telling them to. All thanks to Dr. Spranza.

Cover the basics of classical theory, or learn the theory behind writing a pop song! We will work through a standard theory workbook for classical theory, plus ear-training. For pop theory, we'll analyze your favorite pop songs, getting into the "composer's head." You'll learn chord construction and common progressions, application of scales in melody and soloing. We can also cover jazz theory, including altered harmonies, application of modes, and construction of voicings.

I earned my B.A. in piano, 1979, from the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire, where I was steeped in Bach and Chopin. My Masters work at Emory University in Atlanta further deepened my knowledge of classical performance practice and music history. I have studied with jazz pianists Laura Caviani and Sean Turner of the McNally School of Music, both of Minneapolis/St. Paul. I started my piano playing experience as a high school student knowing absolutely nothing about music. I really enjoyed piano lessons with Cheri because she is a great instructor. She is kind, patient, and understanding. I always looked forward to lessons every week knowing I would have a great time. From individual music lessons to playing for an audience, it was always fun and exciting. I highly recommend music lessons with Cheri!

Cheri was a breath of fresh air every lesson. For an adult beginner I was nervous starting but Cheri welcomes you in and breaks down the basics in a fun non-judgmental environment.

I have an awesome time taking lessons from Cheri. From the beginning when I was learning lessons from different books to currently learning pieces by ear, from playing solo pieces to being part of a band, she has always been patient and fun and very knowledgeable. Being an adult student is an interesting and challenging experience and Cheri has been very supportive every step of the way. She even helped me write a song that included guitar and vocals that we performed with some fellow students at a recent recital. I've appreciated all the time she's worked with me and hope to continue taking lessons from her as long as I enjoy playing the piano.

It was my first lesson and the session was only 30 minutes so it met my expectations. I should have taken an hour because 30 minutes isn't long enough for a first lesson. Rachel is a good instructor so far.

I am a music teacher and musician in the Los Angeles area. I was born in Taipei, Taiwan. I started my music education at the age of three; it started with clapping, rolling around on the floor, and Rimsky-Korsakov's Scheherazade. I was fascinated by the magic that music possesses; as Rimsky-K
orsakov unfold a tale of an enchanted land, with camel-riding merchants, bazaar, and princesses, without uttering a single word. I went on to learn a few instruments: xylophone, three different kinds of recorders, and then all this eventually led to flute.

I started studying flute at the age of 8, and it has been a delightful journey. In high school, I have participated in marching band, symphonic band, wind ensemble, and symphonic orchestra. I was also part of two prestigious local youth orchestra, the Orange County Youth Symphony Orchestra, and the Claremont Young Musician Orchestra.

I obtained my Bachelor of Music (Flute Performance) degree from University of California, Santa Barbara. I grew immensely as a musician during my time in Santa Barbara, I studied under Jill Felber, and I was able to expand my repetoire and gain considerable experience. I even played at the local farmers market as a street performer during the weekends. After graduation , I traveled to my home country Taiwan to study another great musician - Anders Norell, the principal flutist/flautist of the Taiwan Philharmonic. It was another great opportunity as I was able to garner teaching experiences, as well as attending master classes of great flutist/flautist such as Emmanuel Pahud.

As a music teacher, I encourage and inspire. I am foremost a music lover, then flutist and flute teacher. I aspire to spread the abundance of joy and beauty that music has bring into my life. As the great conductor and cellist Pablo Casals puts it: "Music is the divine way to tell beautiful, poetic things to the heart". Therefore, whether if you are a wobbly toddler, high school marching band enthusiast (as I once was), house wife looking for a new hobby, full time employee who always had a love for classical music, or grandmother who is looking for something other than crochet, join me on this wonderful journey.

I have been around piano my whole life and Dave is honestly the best teacher for children I have ever seen. He doesn't get hung up on one book but assess the student and actually teaches and adjust the lesson to match their needs.

My nearly-8 year-old daughter has been taking music lessons at Finale for the last year and a half. Every week, she looks forward to her lesson, and she always comes out of a lesson with a sense of satisfaction and accomplishment.

It's such a mystery why music affects us the way it does. Why do some combinations of notes resonate in our ears to make us feel happy, sad, excited, inspired, etc.? And how do those pro musicians just make things up on the spot and somehow sound so good? Well there is some sense to it all...

We'll cover notes, intervals, chords, keys/modes, rhythm, composition, and more in order to help you gain a functional understanding of what music really is and how it works. Knowing your theory is what takes you from merely playing an instrument to being a musician.

About Dan
I studied guitar for 7 years through private instruction from a great teacher who not only taught me guitar and music theory, but taught me to teach it. I eventually began instructing alongside him at the music store where I learned, accumulating over 30 students, ranging in age from 10 - 70 (never too late to start!). I think what I love most about teaching is reliving the excitement of learning all over again with my students. Music is a rewarding venture, well worth the trip! Dan is a uniquely awesome dude that is super well rounded and smart musician . From my experience it seems as though he could teach almost any genre and a player at any level and his lessons are very fun. He leads a very interesting life and has a lot of strange hobbies like storm chasing !

Dan has been my guitar teacher ever since I was a little kid. Granted there was a period where I didn't take lessons from him for 6 years or so but when I wanted to start them back up he was very willing to do so!. His knowledge on guitar is incredible and I wouldn't recommend anyone else!. If you want to learn to play guitar and learn about music in general, Dan is your man!.
