Viola was my first instrument and I can help you with everything from traditional classical repertoire to modern world, folk and jazz. I like to focus on music theory and reading skills, in addition to developing musicality from the first lesson.

About Kathryn
Kathryn is an enthusiastic and patient contemporary string player specializing in teaching violin and viola. Growing up she played violin and viola in school and community orchestras, as well as bass in jazz bands and small ensembles. She is a graduate of Berklee College of Music, where she studied violin and viola. At Berklee, Kathryn majored in Film Scoring (writing music for film and TV), so she is accomplished in composition as well as performance. She has performed onstage with musicians from all over the world including: Brazilian singer Rosa Passos, Cuban bassist Cachao, alternative rock singer Paul Cole, and Christopher Guest from "This is Spinal Tap."

As a teacher, Kathryn utilizes her training in and experience playing a diverse range of styles in her lessons. She has been teaching private lessons for 10 years and has al
so taught music as a camp counselor, college tutor, and workshop leader. Whether you are looking to pick up a brand new instrument, learn a new style, or work on improving on what you already know, Kathryn can help you reach your goals.

Drawing from a wide array of performance and teaching experiences, I tailor unique lessons to Viola and Violin students of all kinds who are ready to take their playing to the next level. I hold all of my students to a high level of achievement, while integrating their personal goals into my lessons. Students will learn basic skills, advanced techniques, music theory, music history, among other subjects to help inform effective and enjoyable performances. What do you want to achieve? Let me know and let's work together to get there!

About Calvin
As a classically trained violist with orchestral, chamber, and solo performance experience, my teaching style is geared towards performance and expression. I don't adhere to any one book of teaching, adjusting my teaching to the unique needs of each student. My teachers came from different pedagogical backgrounds; as a result, I have a wide array of teaching tools available to pass on to my students. I have taught with the Longy School of Music's El Sistema program and had a Teaching Artist residence with Cambridge Public Schools. I hold a BM in Viola performance from the Lamont School of Music and a MM in Viola Performance from the Longy School of Music.

I have played viola since I first began my musical studies at age 9. As a result, I have seen teachers hold viola students back, simply because they play the "lesser" instrument in th
e viola family. I do not hold my students back and I hold them all to the same high level of playing, regardless of which instrument they play.

I've never had any experience with orchestral instruments before. After one lesson with Calvin, I'm learning to read music again. He showed me proper technique as well. I feel that I will be progressing quickly under Calvin's instruction. My first lesson flew by, and I learned so much in a very short amount of time. His attention to smaller details in technique are very helpful as well. I absolutely recommend Calvin as a viola instructor!

I started viola 4 years ago in order to expand opportunities and get to know more about this amazing instrument, but I began teaching about 1 year ago. I am comfortable teaching beginners to advanced students, and incorporate basic music theory, note reading, and any other skills a student may require based on their skill level.

About Ava
A recent Master of Music graduate of University of Colorado Boulder, Ava began her violin studies at the age of six. During her undergraduate degree at Truman State University, Ava was a two-time Gold Medal Concerto Competition finalist and regularly appeared as concertmaster with the Truman State Symphony orchestra, where she has also held the positions of principal second violinist and principal violist.

As an active chamber musician, Ava was the first violinist in Truman State University’s President’s String Quartet, the university’s only highly competitive string chamber ensemble. She toured Italy twice with the President’s String Quartet, performing recitals in 2013 and 2015.

At CU, Ava has served as concert master and principal second violinist of the Eklund Opera Orchestra, as well as section violinist with the University o
f Colorado Symphony Orchestra. During the summer of 2016, she travelled to Italy as part of CU's "Renaissance in the XXI Century" program where she studied with Alberto Bologni and performed a wide variety of chamber music.

Ava is currently pursuing her Doctorate of Music in Violin Performance at the University of Colorado-Boulder under Professor Harumi Rhodes. Her past teachers include Dr. Sam McClure, Julie Lundgren, and Kathy Karpicke.

Viola - the hidden gem of the strings family! As a violinist who made the jump to viola, I strive to help violists really shine in a world dominated by the violin!

About Danielle
Hello! My name is Danielle and I'm a classical strings teacher (don't worry - I teach the fun stuff too!). I've been playing violin since age 5, viola since age 13, and 'cello since age 18. I have Bachelors Degrees in Violin Performance and Music Education from James Madison University, and I play both Violin and Viola in Symphonicity, the volunteer orchestra in Virginia Beach.

I've taught everything from private lessons to private school to public school and am a truly passionate teacher. I currently teach general music, choir and strings at an elementary school but I love to fill my nights/weekends with private students - that's where the real fun is!

I've taught ages 4-44 and all skill levels. I take particular pride in developing technique and fundamental skills while keeping lessons light hearted and fun! It is my ultimate goal
to spark a love and passion for music in each of my students.

I always encourage students to explore music on their own and bring me repertoire that they'd like to play (from their favorite movies, TV shows, video games, etc.). Those are a great and engaging supplement to the solo repertoire I choose!

Send me a message to get to know more about me and my teaching. I look forward to hearing from you!
Musically,
Danielle

Lessons are tailored to fit each individual student's ability and goals. I believe in challenging students while maintaining a supportive and encouraging environment. Lessons will cover music theory, technique, and solo pieces. The goal is to develop in each student the specific skills needed to play a string instrument as well as to nurture an understanding and love for music.
Lessons take place at my apartment near Governor's Park in Capitol Hill, Denver. Students are expected to prepare for and participate in Winter and Spring studio recitals. In addition to lessons, students are strongly encouraged to participate in a music ensemble program such as Suzuki group classes, school orchestra, or youth or community orchestras.

About Kostadin
I was raised in a musical family in my home country of Bulgaria, where I attended a highly competitive full-time performing arts school from age 6. I was trained in the Russian school of violin playing and have found this to be a very successful method for my younger students in the United States. Another important pedagogical mentor for me is my viola teacher at Rice University, Ivo-Jan Van der Werff, who has developed a systematic approach to building technique fundamentals in advanced violists and violinists. I believe that studying music is very valuable for instilling self-motivation, discipline, and dedication for students of all ages. I was involved in the Mercury Orchestra's outreach partnership with YES Prep schools, which serve underprivileged communities in Houston. I was also a string specialist at the Village School in Housto
n, and my students there and in other public schools in the area excelled in the All-Region and All-State competitions.

As a prestigious music conservatory graduate, former teaching assistant at CU Boulder, and professional chamber and symphonic musician, my students benefit from learning "the basics" of musicianship and technique as taught by some of today's most renowned pedagogues.

Music can be difficult but enlightening work, so above all I strive to create an atmosphere for my students in which music is a rewarding and enjoyable craft.

About Lauren
Greetings!

My name is Lauren Spaulding; I love teaching, learning, and sharing my music ... but, I also love rock climbing, my awesome Bengal cat, and exploring!

After many dedicated hours of hard work, I graduated from the prestigious Oberlin Conservatory with my BM in performance, my MM in Performance, and a Post-Masters degree in orchestral studies. I am fortunate to have had the opportunity to work with, and share with my students the knowledge of today's most renowned musicians. This is important because ... as my favorite teacher once said ... "greatness comes by first eliminating the bad [habits]" -- therefore, starting your musical adventure with strong habits is an important step in creating a foundation for future success!

Currently, I am a full time symphonic and chamber musician in the Broomfield area, and I have pe
rformed in many ensembles including with Rod Stewart, Stevie Wonder, the Transiberian Orchestra, and at the White House for President Obama.

I understand that not every student is preparing for a Conservatory! So, whether you seek a serious musical path or the simple joy of learning an instrument -- I strive to teach pedagogical and musicial elegance ...enjoyably. 😄

Lauren is a Violist in the Mile High String Quartet. From the day she started playing with our group, she's elevated our group to the next level of musical performance. If you're looking for a teacher with great chamber music skills, she is a great resource. She is a great asset to our group.

Ms. Lauren has really helped my daughter improve her skills as a young violist in just a short period of time. She creates a positive and fun environment for learning and each week my daughter is super excited to go in and "show off" her progress to Ms. Lauren. I would highly reccomend Ms. Lauren as music teacher for anyone! She also excels at prompt communication and as a busy parent I cannot describe how much my family has appreciated that.

A good Violin/Viola teacher will enable you to achieve your full potential as a musician. Even adults with busy schedules find it helpful to take lessons once or twice a month to receive assistance with string technique. When selecting a Violin/Viola teacher for you or your child, remember that teaching styles and personalities differ. Some teachers may work well with some individuals and not others. An ideal teacher is one who will not only provide you with a solid foundation of violin/viola technique, but also one who will teach you in a manner that motivates and inspires you as a musician.
