Prepare for band in a friendly, focused environment. Music reading, improvisation, learning fun songs. Over 7 years experience as a woodwind coach, over 10 years as a private lesson instructor.

About Jordan
*Experienced teacher and professional musician specializing in in-home beginning music lessons.
*Performed with:
The Brian Setzer Orchestra, Great Good Fine Ok, Leonard Patton, Gilbert Castellanos, Francisco Torres, 10,000 Maniacs, The Mighty Untouchables, Tori Roze & The Hot Mess, Gaslamp Quarter Jazz Orchestra.
*Recorded on national tv ads including Dreyer's, KFC, Coca-Cola.
*Over 6,000 private lessons taught to over 300 students.
*More than five years of classroom teaching experience in San Diego and Miami-Dade schools: K-5 general music, middle and high school band, under graduate music history, directing college jazz ensembles
*Students have included: ages 4-96, beginners with no experience, undergraduate music majors, scholarship award winners, members of the San Diego Youth Symphony program, many locals in San Diego, and
online students from around the world.

*Note regarding scheduling - November and December of 2018 - I will be on tour with the Brian Setzer Orchestra and will only be available for online lessons.

My mission is to provide a positive musical experience for all students. For some this includes rigorous preparation for an audition of some kind, for others it may be an introduction to music fundamentals to foster better listening skills and greater artistic appreciation. All students will be challenged to improve their listening, timing, and technique. All students will learn to play songs that they love.

Recommendations for best results: make a three-month commitment to weekly lessons, and work up to 30 minutes of daily practice. This formula guarantees results. Bring your instrument, music books, and a binder with sheet protectors ☺

*Scheduling policy: to avoid being charged for a lesson - One week notice is required to cancel, skip, or "roll over" a lesson. 24 hours notice to reschedule (based on availability).

To continue weekly lessons, students must maintain at least 90% attendance or the time slot may be forfeited.

Good Luck!

Jordan was born and raised in the El Centro, California where he began playing the alto sax in the elementary band program. At the age of 12, he began his study of guitar and drums, performing in several rock and ska bands around his home town and San Diego. At age 14, is where he found his love for brass instruments when he took up the trombone. While in high school he became a soloist with the Imperial Valley College Jazz Orchestra, under the direction of former Basie trumpeter Jimmy Cannon. That lead Jordan to accept the Constance Weldon Music Scholarship to attend the University of Miami in Coral Gables, FL.

While performing in South Florida Jordan appeared with major acts including 10,000 Maniacs, and appeared on the Spanish television show "Calle Ocho." He also gained invaluable experience teaching in Miami public schools. His first teaching assignment was at Hialeah-Miami Lakes Senior High School where he directed 3 beginning bands, Concert Band, Wind Ensemble, and their highly decorated Jazz Band. Later Jordan moved into the elementary setting, teaching vocal and instrumental music for grades K-5 at Cypress Elementary.

In 2007, Jordan returned to California to pursue a music career in San Diego. He can be seen performing all over San Diego, Orange, and LA Counties in styles ranging from rock, jazz, funk, blues, hip-hop, Latin, and more. He performs primarily on trombone, piano, and guitar, but is known to pick up percussion, harmonica, and other wind instruments as well. In 2011, Tori Roze & The Hot Mess were nominated for a San Diego Music Award in the category of "Best Blues Artist" after the release of their first album "From The Hip." They released their second album "Turbulence" last December, and are heard regularly on local San Diego radio. This album has also been nominated for Best Pop album for the 2013 San Diego Music Awards. In 2013, Jordan completed his Master of Music degree in Jazz Studies from San Diego State University.

On stage, Jordan is a talented and versatile performer. He is known for his trombone sound and improvisational ability, as well as his positive relationship with his fellow musicians. In lessons, Jordan is energetic and creative.

You can expect a laid back, yet focused environment. Most of all, you can look forward to progress! Hope to see you soon.

About Kareem
A native of the Pacific Northwest, saxophonist Kareem K is a performer, composer, and educator, who is in high demand for his talents both on and off the stage.

Growing up in the northwest with its vibrant music scene allowed Kareem the opportunity to study with, listen to and perform with world class jazz artists residing in the area. Artists such as Tracy Knoop, Jay Thomas, Don Lanphere, Bill Ramsay, Hadley Caliman, Julian Priester and many others had a large impact on Kareem early in his musical education. This direction and guidance continues to inspire and lead Kareem as he continues his lifelong passion undertaking a career as a professional musician.

Today, as a performing artist he spends most of his time leading his group for which he composes and arranges most of the music. The band is constantly on the move as a sought af
ter performing group and spends most of its time performing in and around the Pacific Northwest. When not leading his own group Kareem can be seen and heard performing as a sideman with many other top notch musical acts and projects, most notably The Paperboys from Vancouver BC.

As an educator Kareem divides his time teaching jazz improvisation as an artist in residence at The Tacoma School of the Arts, directing the award winning student jazz ensemble at Pierce College, conducting masterclasses and workshops at schools around the Puget Sound area, and maintaining a full load of private students. Along with his teaching duties Kareem is the director or The Tacoma Jazz Association, serves on the Tacoma Arts Commission, and is a D'Addario Woodwinds performing artist.

Kareem holds a Bachelors Degree of Music from Cornish College of the Arts in Seattle Washington which he attended after receiving a full scholarship.

Throughout his years of teaching Kareem has worked with students of all ages and abilities, from beginners just getting started, to advanced players who simply want new ideas and direction.

Lessons are relaxed and are focused on what you would like to learn.

I usually begin with assessing where students are in their abilities and then come up with a lesson plan based on what they already know and what they would like to accomplish.
They can be geared towards a 5 year old with no musical training whatsoever, or to an advanced musician who wants to further develop their skills.

Topics that I cover in lessons throughout a typical day of teaching include: Instrument technique, sight reading skills ( note and rhythm recognition ), memorization skills, music theory, ear training, improvising, and composing.

After 3 to 6 months of lessons and regular practice a beginning student should have a good command of their instrument and a strong foundation of sight reading. At this point we normally will also have started some music theory as well. For students wanting to focus on jazz we will have already begun improvising as well.

*** Studio Equipment ***
5x10 room w/ piano and seating for parents

*** Specialties ***
I focus on the basics of learning to read music and basic technique on the instruments that I teach. From there I proceed with theory, ear training, improvising, composition etc. It all depends on what the students want to learn. I am comfortable teaching classical music as well as jazz, rock, composition, and improvisation.

Kareem has been teaching me since I was in the fourth grade. I am currently in 8th grade, and man what can I say, he's as good as it gets! After two years I was in my middle school jazz band, which is not easy for a person who has only been playing for two years. You, yourself will be able to see extreme progress within just a few lessons! You must know Kareem teaches at Pierce College, a class at the Tacoma School of the Arts (which I hopefully will be attending and taking his class), teaches numerous private students every week, and lastly he performs with a stellar jazz band of his own! He is extremely dedicated to the musical field. If I were anybody reading this review and wanted to start playing any of the variety of instruments he plays, I would call Kareem K.!

While my degrees are in clarinet, I am also an accomplished saxophonist who has performed in ensembles throughout Colorado and Western Massachusetts, including jazz ensembles, musicals, and a professional saxophone quartet with performances at a regional North American Saxophone Alliance (NASA) Conference. I have experience ranging from helping students just learning their instrument all the way to students looking at All State or college auditions.

About Leslie
Leslie is a Denver based musician—clarinetist and teacher—who performs in solo and collaborative projects across the state while maintaining an active teaching studio. Leslie is in high demand as both a performer and teacher. Recent performances include solo performances is Denver and Stapleton, several chamber performances with her wind trio Enigma and the Lamont Clarinet Choir, and appearances with the Lone Tree Symphony, the San Juan Symphony, Lakewood Symphony, the Denver Pops Orchestra, the Littleton Symphony, the Lamont Symphony Orchestra, and extensive time playing Eb clarinet with the Lamont Wind Ensemble.

After she began playing clarinet with her hands switched, and consequently as the worst clarinetist in her band, Leslie began studying privately and soon discovered a passion for teaching and helping her own students improve
the way her teachers helped her. Leslie is a passionate educator who has spent time on faculty at Mt. Holyoke College and the Eaglebrook School. She currently maintains a private studio in Denver and is an active guest clinician across Colorado.

Leslie studied clarinet at Adams State, the University of Massachusetts Amherst, and recently completed a Performance Certificate at the University of Denver. Influential teachers include Dr. Tracy Doyle, Claudia Weir, Michael Sussman, and Dr. Jeremy Reynolds. Leslie loves the color green, otters, Beethoven Symphony Number 7, Mozart operas, Blue Lake Fine Arts Camp, the smell of rosemary, and her rather aggressive, toothless cat.

Hi there! I am a classically trained saxophonist with a Masters from Peabody Conservatory and over 16 years of teaching experience. I tailor my lessons based on your interests and skill level, finding pieces you enjoy which challenge you. I can also give you a strong sense of the fundamentals, focusing on intonation, finger technique, vibrato and tone. Looking forward to hearing from you!

About Maureen
Welcome to online saxophone lessons! While studying with me we will focus on practice techniques to develop your speed, vibrato and intonation (one of the most important aspects of a good sound!) For students in grade school, lessons can help your skills in band class and in participation in solo and ensemble. It is a great chance to perform works before doing an important audition! In my private teaching I have also focused on playing group pieces with my own arrangements of pop music, like Usher and Rihanna! I find it really enjoyable and it allows my students to challenge themselves while working in a different format than they are used to.

I learned classical saxophone at Peabody Conservatory in Maryland, where I have a bachelor's and master's degree. I performed in wind ensemble and quartets. Currently I play in the Capital Wind Sy
mphony in D.C., where we perform concert pieces for wind ensemble. I also teach at the Levine School of Music, which is very exciting since I studied there as a teenager! Thanks for your interest and I look forward to working with you!

If you want playing the saxophone to feel as natural as singing in the shower, then this is the course for you! I teach all levels of students from beginner to advanced, with a heavy focus on transcription and ear training. Everything in my curriculum is designed to make playing easy, natural and fun. Whether you want to play like Charlie Parker or learn all of the Beatles' greatest hits, we'll work together to help you make the music you've always wanted to.

About Andrew
I have been an active professional musician in the Utah Valley for the past 4 years. I came to Utah from Portland, Oregon in 2011 to study at Brigham Young University under Ray Smith, where I earned a BM in Saxophone Performance in 2018. While there, I performed as a member of the BYU Synthesis Big Band as a performer and featured soloist, sharing the stage with the likes of Gladys Knight, Peter Hollens, Konrad Herwig, Ed Calle, Corey Christianson and others. In 2016 I went with Synthesis on a tour of Eastern Europe, where the band and I performed at the Salkrastu Jazz Festival. I can be heard as a featured soloist on the tracks “Laura” and “Downtime” from the BYU Synthesis Album “Downtime” (2018). On the classical side, I was selected as a finalist three years in a row for the BYU Concerto Competition, played tenor saxophone from 2015 to
2017 in the BYU Wind Symphony, and played principal clarinet in the BYU Symphony orchestra in 2018.

In addition to my performances at BYU, I have performed and collaborated with numerous groups and artists on the Provo and Salt Lake music scenes as both a commercial and studio artist, such as my collaboration with Utah-based vocalist Emily Merrell in her performance at the 2018 Jazz Education Network Conference in Dallas, Texas. I also returned to the northwest in 2015 to take part in the Port Townsend Jazz Festival, where I studied with jazz greats such as Terrell Stafford, Steve Wilson, Bob Mintzer and others.

I am a passionate teacher and am happy to take students of all levels, over Skype or in person.

I have been studying the saxophone for 14 years. I have never gone to school for music but have always played music on the side. I have a few small lessons in college to my friends who were interested in learning from the beginning. So I have experience with teaching people who know nothing about music and music theory. I have taken private lessons many times throughout my education. I believe you never stop learning so I am always open to learning from teachers better than me.

About Patricia
My name is Patricia and I am 24 years old. I have been studying the saxophone for 14 years! I have never had a career in music but it remains one of my passions! When I have taken private lessons my teacher was a jazz musician. Jazz is the reason I started playing sax. So, if you’re interested in learning more of a jazz style of playing I can help with that! Also, in school when I wanted to focus more on my sound quality I studied classical sound. I would focus on having a more buttery sound in classical and a more swanky sound in jazz. Both interest me and I would love to help you learn! I am very patient so no matter what level you are I can help you improve!
