Learn to play all your favorite ukulele songs. Learn all about strumming and chords and if you want to dig deeper how to solo on the ukulele.

About Ricardo
I have been a professional musician and teacher all my adult life. Music is my passion and has always been how I make a living. I teach piano/keyboards, guitar, voice, bass and ukulele. I studied classical piano at SUNY at Buffalo and I initially learned to play guitar and singing on my own. Years later I studied voice and guitar with great professional instructors. I am familiar with different ways of learning music: from very structured and traditional methods (that we use in classical music) to more improvisational and "by ear" approaches as we often do in popular music. This helps me tailor my music teaching specifically to each student based on his/her musical preferences, abilities and learning style. I can teach all styles of music including: Pop, Rock, Blues, Country, Bluegrass, Jazz, many different Latin styles including Salsa, B
olero and Bossa Nova.
I have performed all over the US and toured many countries including Mexico, Canada, Argentina, Uruguay, England and France. I have recorded more than 100 CDs for many artists (as well as my own original music) as a pianist/keyboardist, singer, guitarist and music producer. I have won many awards including most recently the Best Blues Band award as the pianist, guitarist and singer for the Lionel Young Band at the International Blues Challenge (the largest competition of blues bands in the world).
I have taught music through my whole career. Many of my students have gone on to study music as a career and have become successful professional musicians.
I am very comfortable teaching all levels from professional musicians to very beginners at any age.
I currently lead and perform with my group. We perform concerts, private events and some club work. My life as a professional musician has given me a lot of knowledge to share with my students.

*** Lesson Details ***
I adjust my approach based on what you want to learn, always with an emphasis on learning as much as possible while making the lessons fun and enjoyable. If you are a beginning piano/keyboard or guitar student I can teach you the basics of how to read music and how to play chords in the first few months and then we can decide whether you are interested in playing written music or more improvisational styles. I use different method books depending on the student and sometimes I use just my teaching materials if you are only interested in improvisational styles like Rock or Blues guitar or piano (for example). If you are a voice student, I teach with a combination of learning songs you like and using a CD/MP3s of vocal exercises that help develop good vocal technique. Whatever your instrument and musical preference you can be sure we'll have fun and you'll be making music from the very start!

*** Studio Equipment ***
I have a Yamaha upright piano and keyboards. I have acoustic and electric guitars, bass and amps. I have Shure Sm-58 mics to teach microphone technique with.

*** Travel Equipment ***
Student must have his/her own instrument and metronome (or equivalent) must purchase course book(s) if needed..

*** Specialties ***
I teach different styles depending on the students goals. I can teach a traditional classical style for those interested in classical music and I can teach more practical approaches for popular music such as learning by chords (for instrumental students- not voice obviously) and learning improvisation through scales, arpeggios and music theory.

Ukulele is a fun beginner instrument and is easier on the fingers than guitar, but it can also be used to play any kind of music, no matter how unlikely or complicated. I play jazz on them sometimes, and there are countless videos on YouTube of uke players attempting heavy metal and actually pulling it off.

About David
I am a 30 year old Massachusetts native and have been playing music since I was 8 years old, starting on the piano with a wonderful teacher in Beverly who also went to Berklee. I picked up the guitar and the bass in high school and got into rock, jazz and blues and haven't looked back. I received a bachelors degree from Berklee in 2012 with a major in Professional Music and minor in Music Education.

I currently perform in and around Boston with several bands and also build electric guitars and perform all types of repairs and modifications. I also will teach this skill if you are interested...

Music study is great exercise for your brain. It works both the left and right hemispheres of the brain simultaneously because you are thinking both creatively and logically/mathematically at the same time.

I am happy teaching stud
ents at any level, even if you have never picked up an instrument before. I can work with you and get you on the path to being the kind of musician you want to be.

*** Lesson Details ***
I custom tailor my lessons to meet a students individual needs. I am a serious teacher, but I am a laid back person. I am easy going, but I will make sure you learn what you need to learn. I can guarantee after 4 or 5 lessons with me, you will have tripled your knowledge of chords, scales, technique, and song repertoire. I am very patient and am happy to work with students of all ages and skill levels.

I encourage mid to upper level students to bring in CD's or email an MP3/YouTube link of songs they want to learn (if they are at the right level) and I will transcribe them on the spot and go through them with you step by step.

If you want to learn how to play all your favorite songs, I am the teacher for you. I won't make you play music you aren't really interested in, but I will make recommendations for songs to improve your playing and include music theory so that you understand what you are playing and why you are playing it. The point of playing music is to HAVE FUN, after all.

About Jonathan
About

I am a Florida native, active doctoral student, teacher and practitioner. My career includes performing and recording as a guitarist and teaching subjects such as music or math. Grade-school academic strengths in mathematics represent my enthusiasm for the subject. The math equivalent in music can be considered music theory, which is another passion of mine. I hope to take these well-rounded characteristics to teach and influence others with what I have learned in my education and career thus far.

Education & Teaching Experience:

I am currently pursuing my Doctorate of Musical Arts from Shenandoah University and hold a Masters of Music from the University of Akron and a Bachelor of Music from Stetson University (all degrees with a guitar performance emphasis). I also have a temporary teaching certificate for Music K-12 fro
m the Florida Department of Education. I have taught in Florida as a preferred substitute for general music classes, K-12. In college, I have given study sessions for music theory levels ranging from 4-part writing to post-serialism.

Degrees:
Doctorate of Musical Arts: Guitar Performance; Shenandoah University, expected May 2017/2018
Master of Music: Guitar Performance; University of Akron, May 2014
Bachelor of Music: Guitar Performance; Stetson University, 2011

While giving lessons:
I ensure that every student receives fundamental foundation pertaining to the subject. While learning the basics, I advise that the student organizes their lessons and materials in a way that displays progress over time. With the proper knowledge, we can treat the heart of a subject with refinement in order to grasp it's purpose and reason---whether its music or math.

Why?
My students have grown with confidence through a sense of accomplishment. Success does not only affect a person's well-being but can also impact other dimensions of their lives.

The ukulele is a fun way for young or inexperienced players learn to play a string instrument without the tedious and sometimes painful process involved on a guitar or bass guitar. You can learn many skills very quickly on the ukulele, that will eventually translate to the guitar. Reading simple melodies and playing a wide range of chords that fit neatly and comfortably on the ukulele make it a fun and easy first instrument to learn. Can you say Kamakaiwaole?

About Julian
My musical background is uniquely rooted in classical training and popular music (non-classical) experience. I have professionally played toured and/or taught on a variety of instuments including Bass, Drums, Guitar, Piano, Ukulele and Voice for the past 8 years all over the world. My main focus has been bass guitar, on which I've played in over a dozen local bands. In addition, I received my Music BA from CU Boulder in 2014. My classical training in combination with my experience as a song writer, multi-instrumentalist and band leader gives me a uniquely well-rounded teaching style. I aim to teach and inspire students to use music as a joyful platform for learning important skills such as diligent practice, cognitive flexibilty, and creative expression.

Growing up and playing in Hawaii and Colorado, I have had the opportunity to l
earn from prolific, passionate and talented musicians from all over the globe. With my students, I love to share my experience, appreciation for eclecticism, nuance and groove while also emphasizing the importance of a theoretical foundation in music and comprehension of aural skills (hearing music in a theoretical context) as a means to fluent apprehension in any genre. Ultimately, this makes me a very flexible and expeditious teacher. What would you like to learn?

If you have any questions, or would like to chat, please feel free to call me at three O three 5032572 or message me via my Take Lessons profile. I look forward to it!

*** Travel Equipment ***
I can provide most necessary lesson materials, however it is necessary that students have their own instruments on which to play and practice. I may request that students buy some materials such as tuners (for stringed instruments), lesson books, or music applications, but these are optional purchases.

*** Studio Equipment ***
I can teach in my home studio in South Boulder if that is your preference. The studio has keyboard, bass, drums, guitar, ukulele and vocal microphones. Students should bring their own instruments to the studio lessons (drums and piano provided in the studio) Parents may attend the lessons if they choose.

*** Specialties ***
Pop, Rock, Jazz, Blues, Reggae, West-African Highlife, Funk, and Soul

***Some additional background to my experience***
I grew up "noodling". I avoided the difficult task of learning to read proficiently until I was almost 18. Looking back I realize that for me, music was a way to relax and pause internal dialogue. I would create music, especially on the piano that was entirely my own, and based solely on intuition. I got by in piano lessons and choir for so many years as kid by relying on an intuitive ability to aurally recall music and "play by ear". Eventually, I was turned on to the necessity of being able to read when I was accepted into a nationally competitive choral program at Fairview High School under the direction of Ron Revier. Shortly after that, I picked up a guitar and discovered music theory.
Realizing that reading, and theory were inherently different things allowed by to accelerate quickly at music theory which opened so many doors for me creatively. Suddenly, my ability to improvise in context and write my own songs was born.
I realized that every note I sang or played was part of an essential structure, whether or not I was paying attention to it. This is why I particularly enjoy teaching aural skills, sight reading, and music theory in conjunction with whatever repertoire or skillset a student wants to learn. These things facilitate becoming one's own teacher which is the most important thing I can pass on to a student. If you can contextualize everything you hear, you can more easily pursue whatever type of music inspires you.
Understanding theoretical things like musical modes creates a structure around the seemingly elusive nature of musical improvisation. It comes naturally to some, but is stubbornly avoided by others. I assure you, anyone can do it with some guidance. Through the years, I have developed a handful of shortcuts and tools that allow elementary musicians to start creating their own music that is not necessarily oriented in genre or style, but can be applied to all of them. I look forward to sharing my passion with new students!

Julian has spent lots and lots of fun time with his nephews and nieces (age 13-2), playing music with and teaching--ukulele, piano, guitar and drums over the last few years, and as a result they all have some great skills, confidence, and excitement about music. He's kind and very tuned in to where his students are.
I'm his Dad so I've seen how rewarding it can be for his students. He's also given me a basic set of skills on the guitar. It goes without saying, I recommend him highly!!

As a beginning bass player with no previous experience, my daughter was relunctant to start online lessons. Julian quickly established a rapport with her. She now looks forward to her weekly lesson and even practices daily (a miracle) after school. Julian has taken the time to build a good relationship with my shy daughter, and she thinks he is wonderful. I am impressed by his willingness to not just teach the mechanics of playing, but to build a relationship with his students. I would recommend this dedicated and patient teacher.

Learn the basics of note reading, rhythm, chords, technique, and popular songs

About S. Parker
Music became my life when I found a dusty guitar in the storage room at age 10. I owe a lot of really cool experiences to the guitar and so many of them center around learning. Teaching is fun and rewarding, but it is also my way of thanking the great teachers I've had.

-Studied Music Theory/Composition at Metropolitan State College of Denver

-Won a scholarship to the 2001 Summer Guitar Program at Berklee College of Music in Boston

-Frequent substitute at Arapahoe Community College (2004-2005)

-Teacher at St. Mary's Academy Middle School (2008-2013)

-Active member of Onsombley guitar ensemble

-Songwriter, Vocalist, Guitarist in The Penny Dreadfuls

-Creator of http://strumbystrum.com

-Takelessons teacher since 2008

The best lessons I've ever had were lessons in wh
ich I walked away saying "Man, I never KNEW that!" and it's my goal for you have that experience, too. Whether its how to play that chord or write a melody, how to get the best sound out of those stomp boxes, or when genres like shoegazer and post-rock were invented and what they sound like... there's something to be learned in every lesson.

The most important benefit of taking lessons from me is my experience. I started teaching casually as a teenager and have followed every opportunity since. My passion for music has allowed me to teach private lessons (10+ years), middle school guitar class (including a guitar ensemble), and college-level music theory classes. Extensive experience in writing, recording, and performing has only helped that passion to grow. I've developed a method to blend theory with practice every step of the way, and make the journey fun!

Parker is a great teacher & a really nice guy. I have been working with him for about 18 months, and I have come a very long way in my technical ability as well as my understanding of music theory. He has a very low key, positive approach to our lessons, which makes them relaxing and fun, but at the same time he has the ability to get me out of my "comfort zone" and doing things that are new and challenging, from dabbling in different genres to creating new arrangements of old favorite songs to diving into the theory behind iconic riffs and chord progressions.
He has become a friend and I look forward to all of our online sessions.

2 years ago I picked up one of these and apply my guitar knowledge to the instrument. I love to play and teach on this instrument. My mind hears more on it's own because of the lesser string arrangement.

About bob
The music heard around my house in my youth had a country twang until Elvis came along and the music rocked and rolled! In the late 60's I heard "Born To Be Wild" by Steppenwolf and I was sold!
While living in Atlanta Georgia during the 80"s I toured with The Original Drifters (Under the Boardwalk/Up On the Roof) and a Supremes cover band called Mocha. They were booked by the William Morris Agency who would actually fly us to gigs around the country! Fun! One weekend would see us in Florida the next in Arizona.
To learn more about music I moved to California and became a student at Musicians Institute of Hollywood. Being exposed to one of the coolest musical environments 24/7 was a dream come true. For my hard work I received a Student of the Year award and was eventually hired to work for the school and became a substitute teacher for
the entire guitar staff which included Scott Henderson, Allen Hinds and Norman Brown.
The staff was encouraged to gig so I toured from California to Nashville with a variety of bands and visited the Caribbean Islands aboard an actual love boat playing jazz and birthday songs! The rock band Exile took me to the Scandinavian countries with a side trip to Switzerland. My dream of letting the music take me places was working out!
Moving to Boulder in 1996 gave me the opportunity to start my own teaching business while also meeting future songwriting partners.
Dennis Wanebo and I produced our 3rd Martian Acres cd €œIII at my Oilpan Studios during 2013 as well as his €œRunning on Gravity cd. Songwriter Lisa Bell and I toured Italy for 3 weeks in 2010 that inspired a co-produced The Italian Project€ cd in 2013.
My songwriting passion is currently being nurtured by working with the Lincoln Avenue Songwriting Society a group of 7 local songwriters who also perform locally and lend support to the art of writing.
I live in Boulder Colorado with my son Max and my wife Kelly. I love to perform, teach, write, record music.
