My favorite thing about teacher is listening to my student's interests. Some teachers treat music like it needs to be a chore or some other form of homework, but I look to work with the student and make sure that him/her are comfortable and are enjoying their experience. You are not going to enjoy music if it feels like a boring task and doesn't apply to you. That is way I make sure, that I work with the student and make sure their satisfied with their experience.

*** Travel Equipment ***
I can provide sheets and prints of what I want the student to learn. They will need to either get a book if I suggest it and also have their own instrument for study.

*** Specialties ***
I like to play many styles, but I grew up with clas
sic rock. I can teach lead guitar for anyone interested. I can also teach classical, rock, pop, and country piano. I am also versed in finger picking for guitar.

About Kit
With 2 degrees in music and more than 8 years of teaching experience, I offer piano and voice lessons to any age and any level! I consider the most important aspect of teaching to be creating an environment where a love of music can be discovered and nurtured. Everyone is offered the opportunity to discover and deepen their love of music. I chose to make music my career so that I can guide you on your priceless journey towards becoming a better musician...a better person.

*** Lesson Details ***
I do not use one set curriculum. Instead, I have familiarized myself with a dozen various curriculum, and choose the best fit for each individual student. I am open to using books you already own as supplemental material and encourage students to share their suggestions in selecting music. Every student has different goals, and I tailor t
he lessons to meet them.
Within the first lesson, we will set short and long term goals and lesson plans will be made to help you achieve them.
I provide accompaniment and melody recordings for vocal students to practice with.
Material will be sent home with you to peruse at your convenience. This will include articles from music dictionaries, archives, journals and more to give you an opportunity to become a well rounded musician.

*** Studio Equipment ***
Upright piano in living room with waiting area for parents so they may sit in on lessons.
Music stand provided for voice lessons.

*** Travel Equipment ***
Some music may be provided by myself and I am also willing to work with certain books the student may already own. There will be at least one book required for purchase. I expect students to have a pencil and notebook at every lesson.
Water is welcome and encouraged for vocal students.

Parking is available on the street directly outside the studio.

*** Specialties ***
Too often I have seen damage caused to the vocal chords from an instructor's lack of knowledge in developing voices. I am proud to offer voice lessons where I specialize in working with young voices that are still maturing!

I provide piano accompaniment for vocal lessons at no additional cost. I also make accompaniment recordings for the students to practice with. This allows me to transpose songs, letting students learn songs that might otherwise be out of their vocal range. It also allows for flexibility in the tempo so students can learn at a slower pace and increase speed as they become more comfortable.

I believe in teaching a well rounded curriculum and therefore introduce my students to the styles of all genres.

I hold a Bachelors of Education in Music from Florida Atlantic University. I have been teaching music for the last 4 years to students of all ages (5-65 and up). I have experience teaching in public schools in a classroom environment! Finally I am a trained music together teacher teaching in Boulder, CO.

Music has a way of reaching us all and helping us become more sensitive, compassionate, creative people. The study of music has been linked to better test scores, more creative minds, and increased critical thinking abilities. For adults returning to music or picking it up for the first time can be a rewarding hobby, a hidden passion or desire, or a change of schedule.

Music can be for anyone!

*** Lesson Details ***
Lessons are designed for each individual student. No two students learn the exact same way, so no two lesson
s will be exactly the same. I expect students to practice and be prepared for every lesson and be ready each and every time to learn something new. "Perfect practice makes perfect."

All piano students should be prepared begin to learning in the classical style. This course of study covers all the basics necessary to study all genres of music and will insure students learn the rudiments and technique needed for more difficult music. Piano students will be exposed to different styles of music as they progress and will also study and practice music theory, ear training, sight reading and learn about the history of music.

Voice students will be exposed to classical voice technique as well as music of their own style choice. Like piano, selections made are meant to teach the techniques involved in singing in a healthy and supported manner. Voice students will also be exposed to ear training, sight-singing, music theory and music history and will not just be singers but well rounded musicians.

**I only accept voice students 10 years of age and older and prefer ages 14 and older. As the voice is part of body it is subject to the changes involved with growing up and is still "growing" with the student. Younger students will be on a case by case basis.

*** Studio Equipment ***
It is recommended for voice students to have a recording device readily available as well as a keyboard or piano. Students/parents will be responsible for the purchasing of any music books through the teacher when required.

A piano or keyboard will be required for all piano students for practice purposes. Students/parents will be responsible for the purchasing of any music books through the teacher when required.

*** Travel Equipment ***
Students will need access to a piano or keyboard (88 keys preferably weighted) for all piano and voice lessons. It is also recommended for voice students to have a recording device readily available. Students/parents will be responsible for the purchasing of any music books required.

*** Specialties ***
Specialize in teaching beginning to intermediate piano age 5- and up
Have experience working with special needs children.

About Rachel
Ray Charles once said, "I was born with music inside me. Music was one of my parts. Like my ribs, my kidneys, my liver, my heart. Like my blood. It was a force already within me when I arrived on the scene. It was a necessity for me, like food or water."

I believe everyone’s born with a “music part,” but, like our bones and our brains, it needs nutrition and exercise to grow! Born and raised in the Denver metro area, I “grew” mine first through twelve years of private piano instruction, and then by studying voice and music theory at Colorado State University, where I received my Bachelor of Music. I rarely turn down a chance to be involved in anything to do with music; I have sung in multiple university choirs and community theatre productions, I’m a member of an Andrews Sisters tribute trio, and I have played piano and keys for seve
ral bands, including Jordyn’s Arc and a number of church bands. I’ve never met a genre of music I didn’t like, and love to continue to discover new bands, artists, and musicals, often through a recommendation by one of my students. My “music part” has definitely been a major driving force in my life!

I began teaching piano when I was sixteen. I was pretty skeptical when my piano teacher suggested I try it; I wasn’t sure I had the patience or the inclination. Much to my surprise, I loved it! The process of building one-on-one relationships around music with individuals of all ages has consistently been one of the most enjoyable and rewarding experiences of my life. Though there are many ways to nurture musicality, I firmly believe that music lessons are one of the best tools for exploring a person’s musical abilities and tastes— there are few other places where students are exposed to such a wide range of musical styles and genres, few other environments as safe as a music studio or living room to experiment with and build confidence in voice or instrument skills. I love to watch my students develop and encounter their musical identities, and love to share their excitement when they discover a liking for bluegrass tunes, an affinity for jazz, or a love of performing. No matter what shape that “music part” takes, I love helping students to grow and be proud of it.

*** Lesson Details ***
It is my sincere wish that my students’ lessons be something they look forward to, NOT dread! I make every effort for the lesson atmosphere to be relaxed while still encouraging students to actively engage with the lesson material. While I believe that structure is an important element of music lessons, I also know the importance of flexibility in ensuring that the student feels like a participant in his or her studies. For example, note-reading, music theory, and technical/ear-training skills are always a part of each student’s lesson, but rather than establish an unbreakable schedule that dictates the itinerary of every lesson, I often let the student decide the order in which we’ll work through each lesson’s agenda. Students typically work out of various lesson books, chosen based on student age, proficiency, and preference. While most of their practice pieces come from these books, I encourage students to explore their own musical tastes and create a personal connection to their lessons by working on at least one song of their own choosing- popular, jazz, Broadway, etc.- as a perpetual part of their lessons.

Between lessons, students are expected to practice what they learned in previous lessons (and more than just once or twice). While I will always do my absolute best to inspire, encourage and motivate my students to practice, the final decision to actually do it or not is theirs. The only real “penalty” for insufficient practice time is the student’s own slower progress and a limit to the extent we can move forward in their lessons. I ask parents of younger students not to force them to practice, but to help them develop the habit of practicing by setting aside a daily practice time and encouraging them to adhere to it. I can’t guarantee that practicing will always be fun, but I can guarantee it will always be worth doing!

Students are invited (not required) to perform in two informal recitals per year with their fellow students. In cases where enough students of the same playing level desire to improve their performance skills, they have the option of attending monthly group lessons in addition to their private lessons. Group lessons provide students with a monthly opportunity to perform to a small group of their peers and offer and receive helpful critiques.

I believe that the two most important things for a student to receive from a teacher are patience and encouragement— if I didn’t believe that I respond to each of my students with these qualities, I would hang up my teaching hat. I try to communicate to my students at all times that I’m passionate about seeing them succeed. I recognize that every student’s goals are different, and I do my best to help them achieve them, whether they just want to learn enough to be able to play or sing their favorite popular songs, or whether they’re looking to develop the skills to pursue opportunities such as school choirs, musical theater productions, or rock and roll stardom

*** Studio Equipment ***
F/W keyboard in private room w/ seating for parents

*** Travel Equipment ***
I will obtain curriculum with the expectation of reimbursement from the student or student's parents, and I expect students to provide a piano or full-sized keyboard.

*** Specialties ***
I have always taught piano with The Music Tree and Faber and Faber, although I'm also familiar with Alfred, Pace and Bastien.
When it comes to vocal pedagogy, I was classically trained and so usually concentrate more on art songs and musical theatre repertoire.

About Mike
Hi,

I'm a professional drummer, percussionist, and composer here in Denver offering a fresh new approach to drum instruction. I teach at two separate locations complete with dual drum sets and a complete sound system that allows for both my students and I to play simultaneously and at full live volume!

As a Graduate of the California Institute of the Arts, I've been lucky enough to have studied with some of the most diverse masters of drumset and percussion from several continents around the globe. I've been a player of the drums for over 26 years now, and I'm still practicing and perfecting the art, gaining new friends, students, and live stage experiences on the way.

Let me start by saying that I highly value the freedom that I've been able to enjoy by passionately perusing music as a career. Any field where you get to socia
lize, interact with other musicians, and have fun performing with your friends, is a dream gig by any measure, but it does take hard work, sacrifice and tenacity to achieve that level of recognition. Fortunately I have the background and skills to not only make our lessons interesting and exciting!, but to also get you up to speed so that you can enjoy the life of a musician as well!!

My Complete Education:

Born in Santa Monica, California, I lived in and around Los Angeles in several areas before moving to Denver in 1990. I began on the Piano at age 4 and slowly gravitated towards playing the drums by my 9th birthday.

My first teacher, AND first mentor in music: Mark Foster (Metro College of Denver & Colorado Symphony Orchestra), At a very early stage he introduced me to Jazz and Latin and gave me a solid understanding of Classical Percussion as well.

My second instructor and Mentor: Jimi Bauchet, whom I took Rock, Progressive Rock, and Fusion lessons from, was a session and commercial artist in Los Angeles during the eighties and nineties.

Upon High School Graduation I left Denver to study percussion with Dr. Pennington at Fort Lewis College in Durango, Colorado. It was here that I would get my first taste of performing music on a high art level, as Dr. Pennington was one of Michael Udow's young prodigies when he attended the University of Michigan, a nationally regarded school for the percussive arts.

Two years at Fort Lewis College provided me with the perfect spring board to transfer and I then returned to my home state to earn a degree at the prestigious California Institute of the Arts (CIA). It was here that I had the honor to study with the likes of John Bergamo (Master Percussionist), Randy Gloss (John's closest disciple), Joe Labarbera (Jazz Drumset Master), David Johnson (My Mallet & Orchestral Mentor), Alfred Ledzekpo (African Percussion Tribal Leader), Wenton Welojo (Balinesian Gamelan Master and Celebrity), and Swapan Chardui (THE Tabla Guru, Truly an Honor). The Multi-Focus Curriculum allowed me to study a wide array of disciplines while still receiving a degree based heavily in Classical Percussion. My BFA is essentially a custom built degree with a strong background in Theory, Composition, Jazz Drumset, Tympani, Mallets, and a variety of pitched percussion instruments from around the world.

*** Lesson Details ***
My Personal Philosophy:

In many parts of the world there is no separation between music and culture, and to that end I strive to bring my students closer to the outside world through the strength of their own musical bond. Having music be a part of my life has brought me great opportunities to meet other players and fans of the trade, through which I have experienced some of my most rewarding moments with, as well as making some life-long friends along the way. So to me, MUSIC IS SOMETHING THAT YOU ARE!!!, not just something that you do, and that concept is the fundamental reason why my lessons will often go far beyond just the common practices of instruction, to not only show you WHY you would want to use a certain rhythm or technique, but also HOW to apply it in a real situation in the most musical way. Through the deeper understanding of music, there is an equally deeper understanding of ones self..........

My Approach:

Drumming is a very root level based instrument. It is primal in its nature and very emotionally driven. This is great in many ways, for playing the drums can be meditative, or used to relieve stress and pent-up energy, but the bottom line is that drumming is expressive and FUN!!!

So keep in mind that while there is a student-teacher relationship that I must keep, in order to get my points across, you really should enjoy each and every lesson while you're learning. It's proven that you'll retain more of the information that I'm teaching if I can get you to leave with a SMILE on your face!!

OK, so the real trick to what I do as a teacher that sets me apart is my approach. I don't have a "cookie cutter" format for stamping out drummers that all sound the same and have the same library of beats to pull from. If you're a beginner or a seasoned pro, I will custom tailor a lesson, or a set of lessons in order to maximize our time together, all while allowing you to develop your own individual voice on the instrument.

For beginners, I will set up a more structured program to get you up to the level where we can begin to experiment a little more and be able to play along with some popular songs. Using a few time tested books, some rudimentary exercises, and few hand written examples, you will begin to see results immediately. Together we will keep a binder of notes that contain all of your previous and current exercises, and from lesson to lesson you will be able to see the progress that you are making through your collection of notes and music. With this method I have taught everyone from 5 to 65 how to navigate their way around the drums, so you will be in good company if it's your first time on this instrument.

As far as the intermediate to the advanced player is concerned, well, we are going to have a great time jamming together and sharing amazing contemporary concepts. I will still offer the structured program to anyone that is interested, but for the drummer that already has years of playing under their belt, I really have something special to offer you. Odd time, Mixed Meter, Four Limb Independence, Ostinatos, Displacement, and even Polyrhythm

*** Studio Equipment ***
Pearl Drumsets, Ludwig Drumsets, Sabian cymbals, Istanbul cymbals, DW drum pedals, Various reading materials, a stereo, mixer and isolation headphones for playing along with music tracks at full live volume. Comfortable thrones to sit on while playing. Various instructional DVDs that can be borrowed from time to time.

*** Specialties ***
Music, Drum set, Orchestral Snare Drum Technique, Hand Drums, World Percussion
Moeller Technique, Multi-Fulcrum Technique, Four-Limb Coordination and independence, Odd time, Polyrhythms, Mixed Meter! Capable of teaching drum set Reading and Notation! Also capable of teaching ALL STYLES of music. If you can think of it, I have played it. Too many to list here.

Mike is awesome! Super down to earth and easy to talk to. He is understanding and patient and seriously takes the time to help you grasp new concepts and increase comfortability with new styles. He is an incredible musician and really understands the deeper meaning behind any drum style or technique that you are trying to learn. I have been a self taught drummer my whole life and I moved to Denver to attend CU for music after getting out of the Army. Mike helped me to prepare for my entrance exams and my drum kit audition, which I knocked out the park. I am now a full blown music student and officially on path to my dream career. Thank you Mike!! I'm looking forward to more lessons and to continue improving!

While growing up in a family of musicians, I began teaching a lady in her 40's when I was just twelve years old and have been teaching all ages ever since! Even though I began playing piano at the age of 5, I grew to love music more by the age of 10. I have had much experience in piano performance. About the age of 12, I began playing for my church in Louisiana for our congregational worship songs and also for my church choirs . In college I toured as a pianist for 2 years and also accompanied a 500 voice choir during that time. I am currently honored to be on staff as the main church pianist at Castleview Baptist Church in Castle Rock, CO, where my husband is the Music Director and Worship Leader.
I would be so honored to have the opportunity to pass along my musical love to you or your child. My lessons will include technique, theory,
classical, gospel, and more. Hope to hear from you soon!
