Offering lessons to all levels, in all genres and styles!
Lessons are catered to the individual student based on their goals and learning styles.
I have special experience and success in working with older students who struggle with tension and pain while playing piano.
I also make it my #1 goal to make music lessons fun and enjoyable! I have never had a student (young or old) complain because they didn't enjoy the lessons.

About Kit
With 2 degrees in music and more than 8 years of teaching experience, I offer piano and voice lessons to any age and any level! I consider the most important aspect of teaching to be creating an environment where a love of music can be discovered and nurtured. Everyone is offered the opportunity to discover and deepen their love of music. I chose to make music my career so that I can guide you on your priceless journey towards becoming a better musician...a better person.

*** Lesson Details ***
I do not use one set curriculum. Instead, I have familiarized myself with a dozen various curriculum, and choose the best fit for each individual student. I am open to using books you already own as supplemental material and encourage students to share their suggestions in selecting music. Every student has different goals, and I tailor t
he lessons to meet them.
Within the first lesson, we will set short and long term goals and lesson plans will be made to help you achieve them.
I provide accompaniment and melody recordings for vocal students to practice with.
Material will be sent home with you to peruse at your convenience. This will include articles from music dictionaries, archives, journals and more to give you an opportunity to become a well rounded musician.

*** Studio Equipment ***
Upright piano in living room with waiting area for parents so they may sit in on lessons.
Music stand provided for voice lessons.

*** Travel Equipment ***
Some music may be provided by myself and I am also willing to work with certain books the student may already own. There will be at least one book required for purchase. I expect students to have a pencil and notebook at every lesson.
Water is welcome and encouraged for vocal students.

Parking is available on the street directly outside the studio.

*** Specialties ***
Too often I have seen damage caused to the vocal chords from an instructor's lack of knowledge in developing voices. I am proud to offer voice lessons where I specialize in working with young voices that are still maturing!

I provide piano accompaniment for vocal lessons at no additional cost. I also make accompaniment recordings for the students to practice with. This allows me to transpose songs, letting students learn songs that might otherwise be out of their vocal range. It also allows for flexibility in the tempo so students can learn at a slower pace and increase speed as they become more comfortable.

I believe in teaching a well rounded curriculum and therefore introduce my students to the styles of all genres.

Kevin is clearly a virtuoso player, with a pleasant, relaxed demeanor, clear teaching style, and the best sense of humor. That really takes any edge off any nervousness. I have been playing piano since I was 6 years old. It is a wonderful way to make up songs and recognize patterns in music. Under my direction, a student of the piano can expect to learn to play and contextualize complex chord shapes, to read melodies and charts, and to play along to their favorite music using music theory and skills (the ability to play by ear) and improvise. I am particularly good at explaining musical modes, and putting that knowledge to use in a way that jump starts a new students ability to play with various types of popular music more quickly than your average suzuki-method teacher.

About Julian
My musical background is uniquely rooted in classical training and popular music (non-classical) experience. I have professionally played toured and/or taught on a variety of instuments including Bass, Drums, Guitar, Piano, Ukulele and Voice for the past 8 years all over the world. My main focus has been bass guitar, on which I've played in over a dozen local bands. In addition, I received my Music BA from CU Boulder in 2014. My classical training in combination with my experience as a song writer, multi-instrumentalist and band leader gives me a uniquely well-rounded teaching style. I aim to teach and inspire students to use music as a joyful platform for learning important skills such as diligent practice, cognitive flexibilty, and creative expression.

Growing up and playing in Hawaii and Colorado, I have had the opportunity to l
earn from prolific, passionate and talented musicians from all over the globe. With my students, I love to share my experience, appreciation for eclecticism, nuance and groove while also emphasizing the importance of a theoretical foundation in music and comprehension of aural skills (hearing music in a theoretical context) as a means to fluent apprehension in any genre. Ultimately, this makes me a very flexible and expeditious teacher. What would you like to learn?

If you have any questions, or would like to chat, please feel free to call me at three O three 5032572 or message me via my Take Lessons profile. I look forward to it!

*** Travel Equipment ***
I can provide most necessary lesson materials, however it is necessary that students have their own instruments on which to play and practice. I may request that students buy some materials such as tuners (for stringed instruments), lesson books, or music applications, but these are optional purchases.

*** Studio Equipment ***
I can teach in my home studio in South Boulder if that is your preference. The studio has keyboard, bass, drums, guitar, ukulele and vocal microphones. Students should bring their own instruments to the studio lessons (drums and piano provided in the studio) Parents may attend the lessons if they choose.

*** Specialties ***
Pop, Rock, Jazz, Blues, Reggae, West-African Highlife, Funk, and Soul

***Some additional background to my experience***
I grew up "noodling". I avoided the difficult task of learning to read proficiently until I was almost 18. Looking back I realize that for me, music was a way to relax and pause internal dialogue. I would create music, especially on the piano that was entirely my own, and based solely on intuition. I got by in piano lessons and choir for so many years as kid by relying on an intuitive ability to aurally recall music and "play by ear". Eventually, I was turned on to the necessity of being able to read when I was accepted into a nationally competitive choral program at Fairview High School under the direction of Ron Revier. Shortly after that, I picked up a guitar and discovered music theory.
Realizing that reading, and theory were inherently different things allowed by to accelerate quickly at music theory which opened so many doors for me creatively. Suddenly, my ability to improvise in context and write my own songs was born.
I realized that every note I sang or played was part of an essential structure, whether or not I was paying attention to it. This is why I particularly enjoy teaching aural skills, sight reading, and music theory in conjunction with whatever repertoire or skillset a student wants to learn. These things facilitate becoming one's own teacher which is the most important thing I can pass on to a student. If you can contextualize everything you hear, you can more easily pursue whatever type of music inspires you.
Understanding theoretical things like musical modes creates a structure around the seemingly elusive nature of musical improvisation. It comes naturally to some, but is stubbornly avoided by others. I assure you, anyone can do it with some guidance. Through the years, I have developed a handful of shortcuts and tools that allow elementary musicians to start creating their own music that is not necessarily oriented in genre or style, but can be applied to all of them. I look forward to sharing my passion with new students!

Julian has spent lots and lots of fun time with his nephews and nieces (age 13-2), playing music with and teaching--ukulele, piano, guitar and drums over the last few years, and as a result they all have some great skills, confidence, and excitement about music. He's kind and very tuned in to where his students are.
I'm his Dad so I've seen how rewarding it can be for his students. He's also given me a basic set of skills on the guitar. It goes without saying, I recommend him highly!!

I welcome piano students of all ages and levels of experience. I don't have a set curriculum or required method book, as I feel that it's important to tailor lessons to the individual student. I work with my students to learn how to read music and feel it's important to include theory and ear training to have a more complete understanding of how and why we do what we do as we're playing. I specialize in classical music, but am happy to work on music from other genres such as rock, pop, and Broadway, or others. I feel this allows my students to be fully engaged at their lessons when the music we're working on is something that interests them.

About Molly
I have loved music almost all my life. I began my lifelong journey to immerse myself in learning piano at age seven. At thirteen, I added violin lessons as well. By the time I reached high school, I knew that music would be my major in college, and that music would always be a vital part of my life.
I played violin with my high school orchestra, including taking part in productions of Fiddler on the Roof and Anything Goes. I also played piano with the orchestra, and performed the first movement of Grieg’s Piano Concerto in A minor in concert. I played the piano for my school’s top show choir as well, performing with the group throughout the Denver area. I was also a member of the Colorado All-State Orchestra. All this time, I continued my private lessons in both piano and violin.
While still in high school, I auditioned for, and got,
the title role in the Country Dinner Playhouse’s production of Fiddler on the Roof.
After high school, I chose the University of Denver’s Lamont School of Music to continue my music education. I graduated Magna Cum Laude with my Bachelor of Music degree in piano. I was invited to join the academic honor society, Phi Beta Kappa, as well as the music honor society, Pi Kappa Lambda. I have also completed my Master of Music in piano at Lamont School of Music.
While in college, I accompanied many vocal and instrumental students, and discovered the joy of chamber and collaborative music. I formed partnerships and friendships with many other musicians, including professional musicians in several countries. I have also worked as a pianist for several area churches and spent one holiday season as a pianist at Nordstrom.
I believe that music should be an integral part of a well-rounded education. I hope that my passion for music will enable me to help others find the same joy and appreciation.

*** Lesson Details ***
I believe that every student learns differently and that those differences should be embraced. For that reason, I do not advocate a specific method or curriculum. I will work with each student individually to determine what method of learning will work best for them. Together we will decide what our curriculum should be so that we can incorporate not only learning, but fun into lessons.

*** Studio Equipment ***
Computer desk, piano, dedicated music room, space for parents to wait

*** Travel Equipment ***
I would expect students to provide their own instruments.

*** Specialties ***
Classical music

I've been studying saxophone with Jeff for a little over a year and a half now. In that time I've grown greatly as a saxophone player, musician, and improviser. Jeff does a great job of breaking things down to an understandable level while still keeping sight of the big picture - saying something important during a solo, and saying it in a way that keeps the audience interested. Lesson materials are always challenging enough to stay busy while never being too overwhelming. Jeff is a talented musician and teacher who knows what makes jazz, jazz. Anyone who is willing to put the work in and dedicate themselves will experience a lot of growth and learning with him.
