My students should expect a well-rounded education on cello involving technical studies, playing in a variety of styles including, playing solo works, and having a great time!

About Nicolas
Hello there!

I was born in Buenos Aires, Argentina, and raised in Miami, FL. I started my musical career at the age of 8, singing in chorus, playing the recorder, and shortly afterwards moving to the guitar, and the violin.

When I was 15, I was nominated for a James L. Knight Award in Music, and I performed as a violin soloist with the Miami Beach Symphony Orchestra, and the Greater Miami Youth Symphony playing Mozart's Violin Concerto No. 3 in G major. One of my most memorable experiences when I was a kid! In high school, I formed my own string quartet and we would perform all over the South Florida community especially at hospitals and for the elderly. At 16 years old, I was also given an internship with the New World Symphony, conducted by Michael Tilson Thomas, for about 2 years. During this time, I was able to take lesso
ns from master violinists such as Marc Thayer and Glen Cherry. During this time, I was given the opportunity to perform with the New World Symphony at 17 years old for pops concert conducted and performed by Chuck Mangione in El Doral, FL.

I later on accepted a scholarship for violin performance at the University of Miami for my Bachelor of Music, and earned my Master of Music from Florida State University. I also taught string orchestras for 10 years at Ruth K. Broad Bay Harbor K-8 Center, South Florida Youth Symphony as conductor (and now composer!), and conductor of the Greater Miami Youth Symphony. I was appointed Assistant Conductor of the Alhambra Orchestra for two seasons under the guidance of my high school orchestra teacher, Mr. Reginald Nicholson (1947-2011). It was here where I was able to work on my compositions, orchestrations, and conduct a fine group of musicians.

I now live in sunny Los Angeles, in the Sherman Oaks area, and I'm loving the new change. I am eager to share my knowledge with new students on various subjects such as learning a string instrument to learning a different language. Please feel free to ask me any questions.

I am looking forward to getting to know you and your goals for learning!

LESSON DETAILS
I have been teaching music as an adult, certified teacher since I was in college, but have done teaching as early as 15 years old.

I will help you create a fantastic technical base so you will be able to play with ease as your skill level develops, all while keeping the lessons fun and engaging.

MUSIC STUDIO
Piano, Violin, Guitar, Music Stand, General Teaching Aids, Recording Equipment.

TRAVEL EQUIPMENT
I can provide a music stand and basic materials but the student is expected to have their own instruments and to buy the music I recommend. I can recommend various vendors/shops where you can buy the ideal instrument for your lessons.

EXPERTISE
I am classically-trained musician that also specializes in Tango performance, Latin/Jazz, Rock, and a variety of other styles. I believe that training in the classical aesthetic will create a firm, solid foundation to crossover into other areas listed above. With a good dose of technical exercises, scales, and a variety of repertoire, my students always turn out well-rounded, ready to tackle almost any kind of music they wish to learn.

Thank you for stopping by and let me know what you would like to learn!

Nicholas is very friendly and made me feel welcome, understanding and adjusting the pace as I needed. It was a great experience and I am feeling motivated to practice on my own. I am no music expert, and yet I think he's absolutely great.

I have to admit, starting violin lessons as an adult is really weird, but it's something I've always wanted to try. I tried another teacher on here and she was a bit impatient and short with me (how does she teach children??!), so I tried Nick due to his location from my home. He's been fantastic! He's a great combo of being patient, caring, and encouraging, but also stern enough to get me to do what I need to get better. I'm sure it's not easy working with an adult that can "talk back" haha. He clearly knows what he's doing and he helps motivate me to keep learning. And he's very understanding when I run a tad late sometimes. I imagine he'd be great with kids too if he's great with a difficult adult like me.

Chandrika is a wonderful instructor. She is very, very nice, well organized, on time, encouraging and knowledgeable. I am an older student, just one month from 68. I have had many music teachers and taught piano myself for 25 years. I am so glad I found Chandrika. I drive 1 1/2 hours one way to every lesson and am happy to do so. Having a teacher with Chandrika's qualities is terrific. I recommend her highly for any aspiring student.

Cello Lessons, Cello technique, Cello Jazz, Cello Pop, Cello classical, Cello improvisation

About Ted
Hello to my prospective future students!
My name is Ted and I teach in the Denver/Lakewood area. I've been playing cello for 10 years and have experience in almost everything performers are doing with the cello in the 21st century, including: Classical performance, recording, gigging, improvisation, looping and effects, and arranging cello performances of many pop songs.
I teach with a set curriculum in mind that bends to where my individual students' passions lie; no matter what your goal is with the cello, I believe l will be able to guide my students in achieving it.
The biggest factor that keeps me dedicated to the cello is how much fun I have playing it, and I do my best to create this passion in my students.

Below is a short biography:

Ted Leininger began playing cello after listening to a video game soundtrack tha
t had a great cello part in it. After that, he never stopped. Starting as the last chair cellist, he was in an advanced orchestra group by his senior year of high school.

After graduating, he studied under Charles Lee, the Principal cellist of the Boulder philharmonic. There, he thoroughly studied classical technique before transferring to UCDenver as a double major in Cello performance and Audio Engineering. He studies various types of music, pursuing genres like Jazz and Bluegrass in addition to Classical. He regularly performs with independent singer-songwriters and is actively gigging as a studio musician and band member.

Hard work and discipline (not to mention having fun) can create many opportunities for an inexperienced cellist. Ted strives to create the same passion for music in his students that he has enjoyed throughout his career. He employs a similar teaching style to his professors that he has studied under, but also realizes the relevance of the cello to modern music and teaches any genre on cello. He prescribes to the philosophy that the biggest reason for learning an instrument is so that you can eventually transcend it.

I strive to treat each student equally no matter how advance the student are. My job as a teacher is to provide students a tool in life. Students will learn the way life works through the art of music. Should the students decide to pursue music or not in the future, I only hope that students will apply what they've learned in music to their everyday problem solving.

About Johnny
Johnny received his Bachelors of Music at the University of Alabama, under the tutelage of Carlton McCreery, and a Masters of Music at The Boston Conservatory with Andrew Mark. Johnny made his debut performance in 2011, performing Dvorak's Cello Concerto with Albuquerque Youth Symphony under the direction of Gabriel Gordon. At the start of my time with my students, depending on their skill level, I will take them through the physics of producing a clean and robust tone while also remaining relaxed and stress free. I focus on music theory as well as ear training to give my students a good musicianship foundation so that cello playing and all music endeavors are more accessible. I guide my students through a range of repertoire until I find what really clicks with the students particular desires and interests.

About Jeff
I am a classically trained cellist and a recent graduate from the Bob Cole Conservatory of music in Long Beach California. My teacher during this time was Dr David Garrett of the Los Angeles Philharmonic and Dr, Marlin Owen of the Biola Conservatory of Music. I have been playing cello for fifteen years and have been playing in orchestras for the past ten. I was the principle cellist for the Irvine Young Concert Artists Orchestra for two years and was Assistant Principle cellist In the CUSLB symphony orchestra.
In addition to classical music my time at the Bob Cole conservatory allowed to play in various Jazz ensembles and allotted me some proficiency at improve and composition. I primarily teach classical music but I would very enthused to delve into a more contemporary practice as per the request of the student.

I have been teaching private lessons since 2008. I have performed on movie soundtracks and was a guest soloist with Hamline University Orchestra. I am certified in Suzuki Method and also teach traditional lessons. I've worked with students age 4 to adult.

You are never too old to begin! I've worked with beginners of all ages.

Playing is about so much more than just classical music and scales! Although we love scales. Scales are how we show off how fast we can play. In addition to solid fundamentals of technique and musicality, I teach a broad range of styles including folk/fiddle, pop, and movie and video game scores. You'll get to learn the music that YOU want to play!

About Alex
I am an award-winning composer and have been passionate about music all my life. I've been playing in symphonies for over a decade, have been principal violist and a featured soloist, and performed as a session player on movie scores. I've taught violin and viola since 2008 and worked with students ages 4 to adult. I am certified in the Suzuki Method and also teach what is sometimes referred to as "traditional lessons."

My daughter, Ada, was losing interest in her violin lessons and not making progress, so we signed her up to take lessons with Alex. This turned out to be the best decision that we could have made. Alex had excellent rapport with my daughter and was quickly finding important practice points for her to focus on. Even more important I was impressed with the multitude of solutions and exercises that Alex came up with to help my daughter get beyond her problem areas, and bad habits. On top of this, Ada was having fun, and was getting really motivated to practice. Alex’s attention to detail, excellent skill on the instrument, creativity with exercise ideas, and persistent yet friendly character were the perfect ingredients for a positive and productive music lesson experience. We would still be taking lessons with Alex if she still lived in our area for sure. (She is also an incredibly talented composer, which is a great thing for young musicians to learn about).

Alex is a truly gifted teacher. Teachers like her are rare especially when it comes to the arts. Not only does she make lessons fun but she also has the ability to put people at ease. Alex is also great at teaching those with learning differences. I Have extreme learning disabilities along with visual perceptual processing difficulties and thus have many blocks in place when it comes to learning things such as theory. No matter how long it takes me to understand something Alex is ever patient never giving up on me never getting frustrated with me. She has found many ways around many of the blocks that I have with theory. When I first began lessons with Alex I couldn't clap or count rhythm unless I had the main part. Since taking lessons with Alex I am now able to count rhythm better when I am not the main part. I would highly recommend Alex to anyone looking for a great teacher!
