I've always been passionate about singing, so much so that I've based much of my life and career around my voice. While I love singing and would say that I was able to cultivate my voice to the point where I'd consider myself talented, there has always been an aspect that I felt I could improve upon. When I first started lessons with James I was amazed with the strides I was taking, as well as how kind, helpful, and encouraging he was. I can honestly say he helped me become the singer I hoped to be.

My mission is to provide a positive musical experience for all students. For some this includes rigorous preparation for an audition of some kind, for others it may be an introduction to music fundamentals to foster better listening skills and greater artistic appreciation. All students will be challenged to improve their listening, timing, and technique. All students will learn to play songs that they love.

Recommendations for best results: make a three-month commitment to weekly lessons, and work up to 30 minutes of daily practice. This formula guarantees results. Bring your instrument, music books, and a binder with sheet protectors ☺

*Scheduling policy: to avoid being charged for a lesson - One week notice is required to cancel, skip, or "roll over" a lesson. 24 hours notice to reschedule (based on availability).

To continue weekly lessons, students must maintain at least 90% attendance or the time slot may be forfeited.

Good Luck!

Jordan was born and raised in the El Centro, California where he began playing the alto sax in the elementary band program. At the age of 12, he began his study of guitar and drums, performing in several rock and ska bands around his home town and San Diego. At age 14, is where he found his love for brass instruments when he took up the trombone. While in high school he became a soloist with the Imperial Valley College Jazz Orchestra, under the direction of former Basie trumpeter Jimmy Cannon. That lead Jordan to accept the Constance Weldon Music Scholarship to attend the University of Miami in Coral Gables, FL.

While performing in South Florida Jordan appeared with major acts including 10,000 Maniacs, and appeared on the Spanish television show "Calle Ocho." He also gained invaluable experience teaching in Miami public schools. His first teaching assignment was at Hialeah-Miami Lakes Senior High School where he directed 3 beginning bands, Concert Band, Wind Ensemble, and their highly decorated Jazz Band. Later Jordan moved into the elementary setting, teaching vocal and instrumental music for grades K-5 at Cypress Elementary.

In 2007, Jordan returned to California to pursue a music career in San Diego. He can be seen performing all over San Diego, Orange, and LA Counties in styles ranging from rock, jazz, funk, blues, hip-hop, Latin, and more. He performs primarily on trombone, piano, and guitar, but is known to pick up percussion, harmonica, and other wind instruments as well. Jordan, along with the rest of the aggressively funky cover band SuperMagnetic, were the grand prize winner of the 2010 Viejas Ultimate Music Challenge 4. In 2011, Tori Roze & The Hot Mess were nominated for a San Diego Music Award in the category of "Best Blues Artist" after the release of their first album "From The Hip." They released their second album "Turbulence" last December, and are heard regularly on local San Diego radio. This album has also been nominated for Best Pop album for the 2013 San Diego Music Awards. In 2013, Jordan completed his Master of Music degree in Jazz Studies from San Diego State University.

On stage, Jordan is a talented and versatile performer. He is known for his trombone sound and improvisational ability, as well as his positive relationship with his fellow musicians. In lessons, Jordan is energetic and creative.

I whole-heartedly recommend Ryan as a private instructor. My middle school-aged son had enjoyed learning to play saxophone in his school band, but towards the end of his 1st year was getting bored by the slow pace. After beginning lessons w Ryan (through the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music) his interest, enthusiasm & skill improved dramatically & he began to excel as a musician. Ryan was soon guiding him through more complicated compositions, and the joy of playing was evident every time my son picked up his sax. With Ryan’s training, he learned to prepare for auditions, and as a result has won a seat (and solos!) in several State & city select bands, jazz ensembles and every group his school has to offer.

Ryan’s personality was a great fit for my son. He’s very professional, while being completely approachable, patient & encouraging, and his love of music is passed along to his students. His versatility & broad knowledge of musical genres allow him to introduce new directions for his students to explore. With Ryan, my son studied classical compositions and also deepened his interest in Jazz. The chance to work with Ryan on his improv skills was very valuable to him...it brought a new level of confidence & comfort to his playing.

I would recommend Ryan to anyone looking for a private music instructor, either for themselves or for their son or daughter!

The history of me meeting Nikita started after his performance on my wedding. I really liked his style of play and his personality, too. A year later I decided to take up playing the sax and, of course, addressed Nikita with that – as I had been inspired particularly with his play. I put progress and success I could feel even after half a year of studies down to Nikita’s teaching skill. He will always reasonably praise me or scold if homework undone. To top it all, he inspires me to work and go on rising further. I just wish there was more time to take more lessons. Nikita, I will be coming more often when I finish my construction works, I promise! Thank you for your patience and perseverance in your noble work.

Hello Prospective Students,
My name is James and I'm offering my services of teaching you how to play the saxophone. If you already know how to play I can assist you in developing your talents in the most productive and creative ways.
I began playing when I was 11 years old. I played in band all the way through my studies as an undergraduate student. I took part in concert band, jazz band, and marching band. My passion was jazz.
After discovering my passion for performance I decided to move to New Orleans to hone my skills. I lived there for five years where I played with multiple bands. I learned many skills not only related to musicianship but also related to the art of performance.
I recently moved to Colorado to develop my own career. I have performed here as well and am an active participant of the Colorado Blues Society. If you are looking on learning a new instrument I can help you. My main objective would be not to keep you as a student indefinitely but to give you the

About James
Hello prospective students,
My name is James and I am offering my services as a teacher and a mentor for woodwinds. My main instrument is saxophone but I do play and practice the flute, clarinets, and trumpet.
My musical background began when I was 11 years old. I decided to learn how to play the saxophone. I played the saxophone my entire educational career which includes middle school through college. I have participated in concert bands, jazz bands, and marching bands. I had a brief stint in which I picked up piano lessons but was unable to continue due to hardships.
After graduating with my masters degree with an unrelated education I decided to move to New Orleans to pursue my dream of playing professionally. I lived in New Orleans for five years. I started my own bands and I also participated in other bands. I have very serious
performing experience and am able to approach music not only as a performer but as a professional. I do not constrict myself to playing jazz. This is a misconception that all saxophones strictly play jazz. Let's work together to end the stigma!
I am extremely confident in saying that I have unique particularity that will distinguish me from any other musician on this website. That particular trait is that I have confronted some of the most challenging musical scenarios due to my willingness to fail and try. This is one characteristic that I have seen the majority of musicians lack. I approach music not only in a practical and educational way but also as a method of practicing my spirituality and as a way of molding my character for good.
That being said my ultimate objective as a teacher would be to instill in you the discipline and knowledge to where you will feel confident to not need a continuing tutor. I will give you the skills and tools needed for self development. Any tutor or teacher should only be needed to give you the basics and when needed to assist with a complex or challenging scenario. If you want a person that has actual experience playing music professionally and academically then I am your go to guy. I will not waste your time or your money and I will not charge ridiculous prices for lessons. I can and will tutor any age.
Gratefully,
James
