Jason has been playing guitar for over 15 years and teaching music since 1996. Although trained in standard teaching methods, he has developed his own method of teaching to positively enhance the student€™s strength, dexterity, ear-training, memorization and techniques. His goal as a teacher is specifically designed to help you achieve your goals as an artist and a musician.

This year Jason was also the M
usic Director at the National Guitar Workshop Day Jams Rock Music Day Camp where students ages 7-15 came out to form bands, record original material and master their craft. He also taught beginning to advanced guitar/ vocals/ performance and songwriting as hosted a recording clinic at the end of each day.

Jason has host student showcases/charity benefits where his students were able to get on stage and show off their new talent and perform with other musicians. It wasn't mandatory though, if you were just looking to come out and support there was no pressure other than to come out and have fun.

Jason has been transcribing for guitar and bass since the age of 18 and since then has become a master of the craft including both 5 line staff and tablature, hand-crafted exercises and deconstructions to better enhance the students learning. Artists and genres that Jason has experience with range from Classic Rock, Metallica, Slayer, Megadeth, Guns N' Roses, Santana, Jimi Hendrix, Eric Clapton, Led Zeppelin, Robert Johnson, Pierce the Veil, Paramore, All Time Low, Demi Lava to, Iron Maiden, Motorhead, Pantera, Avenged Sevenfold, The White Stripes, Green Day, Old Crow Medicine Show, Taylor Swift, Mumford and Sons, Bruno Mars, Rob Zombie, John 5, Audioslave, Rage Against the Machine, Van Morrison, the Beatles, AC/DC, ZZ-Top, Bullet For My Valentine, All That Remains, Ozzy, Black Label Society, Sublime, Aerosmith, At the Drive In, Type O Negative, the Black Keys, the Pixies, the Toadies, Black Sabbath, Jason Mraz, Lady GaGa, John Mayer and Journey.

Jason attended the University of Alaska, Anchorage where his degree is in Music and Business. He is constantly continuing his education with music theory courses as well as private guitar instruction. He attends guitar workshops and seminars by artists such as John5 and Kerry King who are known as some of the worlds finest guitar players. He reviews every day from a wide range of over 1000 sources working to become a better musician and instructor.

Another nice feature that you might enjoy from one on one sessions with Jason is learning the ability to craft and record your own songs using state of the art technology that caters to your own unique personality. There are no limits!

I am so lucky have Jason as my daughter's electric guitar teacher. He is very professional, he knows what to teach and how to teach my daughter based on her level. My daughter really learned a lot from the first 5 lessons that she just completed. Of course I will sign her up to continue with Jason. Jason is also a very nice teacher. He never mind to teach extra time if he finds my daughter is still with passion to the music of the class, and Jason even lend his own guitar to my daughter for her jazz band audition. Thank you so much Jason!

Kory I.

Pomona, CA

About Kory

My name is Kory I., and I'm currently enrolled as a Music Studies Major and Business Minor in college. I've been playing guitar for over 7 years, and played lead guitar/bass for my high school jazz band and the Cal Poly jazz combo.

I have completed all levels of music theory at Cal Poly Pomona and have sung in the Concert Choir and Vocal Jazz Ensemble. I have taken recording classes and know how to use Pro Tools and Logic and have recently started to self produce my own music. In addition, I've worked with several students outside of take lessons, and have volunteered as a music teacher's
assistant at Nightingale Middle School and John F. Kennedy High School.

Teaching others about music theory, singing, music production and guitar is a passion for me, and something that I'm not only confident in, but very patient with. I can guarantee, whether you're a beginner, or a very experienced player, you will see results

*** Travel Equipment ***
I can provide an acoustic guitar, picks, a chord, an amp. I expect the student to have either an acoustic or electric guitar to be able to practice with, but if they don't I can cover him/her.

*** Specialties ***
Indie, metal, jazz, blues, funk, hard rock, acoustic, electric, alternative, Music Theory

What's inside the singing lesson?

Lessons revolve around three basic aspects which are training, singing, and acting.

In training, definitely be ready for some scale exercises. If you want to work on making your vibrato faster, breathe better, sing more loud or soft, sing short or longer phrases, co
ntrolling your mix, executing your melismas, r&b licks, blue notes, bending notes, singing super high notes and transitioning down to lower notes: balancing head and chest voice, and expanding your range, then vocal training is what you'll need. Most of this activity involves matching sounds to custom scales played on a piano.

In singing, definitely have a song in mind you want to work on. Then we'll discuss which techniques and skills that are essential for that particular genre of music. Other than that, you'll learn singer's diction and will know how to control vowel sounds and consonants more efficiently. Most of this activity involves you singing either a line, a verse, chorus, bridge, or the entire song. It really depends on what level you feel comfortable at. Most of this activity revolves around breathing techniques, phrasing techniques, and you singing the melody correctly on pitch.

In acting, whether you're recording or performing, you'll still need to put an act together. Portrayal of emotions are quite the essential skills to make your sound believable. If singing with feeling is not working out for you, then you might want to consider working on some basic acting skills. Some of the skills covered are voice inflections, rhythm, gestures, body language, and facial expressions. Most of this activity involves you expressing yourself as an artist.

How to be prepared for the lesson?

If you do not have a piano or recording device on hand, I'll provide both devices for you. It's recommended to provide a piano. It doesn't have to be expensive, it just has to be in tuned. If it's digital, you should be fine. It's also recommended to have a recording device. Many clients enjoy recording their lessons on their mp3 players or any other computer devices. Please have a clean and clear space with an electrical outlet for the piano and recording device. Other than that, please wear comfortable clothing as if you are about to play a sport or an activity you enjoy. If you want to dress like a super star that's fine too.

If you're taking lessons online, don't worry about anything because everything will be provided.

So far, definitely what I am looking for in a vocal instructor to help you explore your voice more, rather than just trying to "get by"' with whatever you've been doing in the past and thereby avoiding the opportunity to grow both physically and mentally.

For me in the vocal realm that takes a lot of courage, and I greatly appreciate greatly his calming presence and his positive attitude. Also, he's organized, responsive, and professional. I'm so happy about that. Receiving a recording of your lesson is an added plus! Thanks so much!

Varin is honestly such a great teacher. Since it was my first time ever getting formal vocal instruction, I was really nervous; however, he slowly eased away my anxiety with his patience and sense of sympathy. Professional yet relaxed, encouraging and reliable! Would recommend.

About Lily

With a Masters in Music Performance from The Ohio State University, and an accredited Suzuki violin teacher from training program at The School for Strings, NYC. I have 6 years private teaching experience and 1 year group class teaching experience at Jefferson Academy at The Ohio State University. I am able to work with different ages of students with patience and passion.

*** Lesson Details ***
I use Suzuki violin books for beginners. In this series, I would like students to follow the order of each piece to build up their violin skill. I emphasize building a strong foundation of a good b
ody posture including bow-hold. For more advanced student, we can use Suzuki book 4 or above and other similar level repertoire to build up their musicality and the knowledge of each composer.

I've been teaching piano for 3 years. Within the first few lessons, you'll be able to learn basic piano-playing posture and the basic knowledge on piano. As time goes on, you'll be able to reach to intermediate level. I typically use Faber piano book series.

*** Studio Equipment ***
Violin and music stand

*** Travel Equipment ***
I bring my violin with me, students should have their own instruments (violin/piano) and a music stand (for violin students).

*** Specialties ***
I teach classical violin and piano.

Lily is a great instructor. She knows how to communicate with students and how to hold them accountable so they can have self discipline. Her teaching method also effective as she showing students how to get better step by step.

Lily has been teaching violin to my 10 years old son for the past 10 months. We find her to be kind, patient, positive, and understanding. She is not overly strict nor critical, which fits well with my son's personality. She is mind-mannered so we do not feel pressure or discouraged when you are just learning and making mistakes. We are pleased with the progress my son has made in the past 10 months.

Eric C.

Upland, CA

About Eric

Hi! I'm Eric, a Saxophonist, Composer, Singer, and Teacher that was born and raised in Southern California. I've been playing the saxophone for over ten years now, writing music for as long as I can remember, and singing since I was in elementary school. I play for a variety of groups in the Los Angeles Area, and sometimes perform in Los Angeles at venues such as the LightHouse, Saint Rocke, and the Baked Potato.

The three most rewarding experiences in my musical career, would be a successful performance, great feedback on a new composition, and watching the progress of my student's skill.
I have taught students from elementary school all the way to those that are older than me. I keep my lessons fun, efficient, and applicable. I give students assignments to work on, so they don't forget what I teach, and so they can expand upon the concepts given in lessons, which familiarizes them with the information. I look forward to helping you unlock your potential!
