Peter Q.

Full Drum Set in the Studio! Everyone should learn to play the drums, it keeps you healthy!

About Peter

I'm a multi-instrumentalist from the Northwest with lots of love for teaching people to groove. I got my bachelor's degree in music from Whitman College with an emphasis in Jazz Performance. I can teach anyone to rock, swing or get unreasonably funky. Lessons can be casual or serious and I'm down to tell you how to get to Carnegie Hall or onto the stage at the local jam.

*** Lesson Details ***
I like to teach my students what they want to learn! I'm always game for setting up a fun path to being able to play your favorite songs as fast as possible. I don't scold or shame and having a blast
is the name of my game. I can teach you to improvise, read music, become a strummer or virtuoso, it's all up to you.

*** Studio Equipment ***
Lessons in the basement studio, piano, guitars, amps, hand drums, a bass, woodwinds, FULL DRUM SET!

*** Travel Equipment ***
I can travel with a sax, flute, guitar, electric bass, and a didgeridoo....

*** Specialties ***
I'm a jazz musician! But I listen to and perform all styles of music. I have written string quartets, been the front man for a funk band, and recorded every style of music under the sun. I can teach Bach and the Beatles and explain how/ and why they intersect and are similar musically.

Kyle S.

Portland, OR

I've always drummed as a hobby, and have studied music education enough. I'm not an expert drummer, but I've done my fair amount of playing. Cannot do drum lessons at my location due to noise complaints.

About Kyle

Hey!

My name is Kyle S. and I'm incredibly passionate about music education for all ages. Over twenty years of playing all instruments has taught me there is not one specific way to teach music, so I change my curriculum for every student and completely customize what you learn to how you learn, and what you're interested in. I started teaching music lessons in after school programs when I was eleven and fell totally in love. I continued to do this for many years driving to neighboring towns, volunteering at church youth groups and local Boys and Girls Club all around my hometown.

I we
nt on to study Music Education at Oregon State University and Guitar Performance at the University of Oregon and Jazz Performance on Guitar at Portland State University! At each of these Universities I taught students my age as well as locals in each town and have been supporting myself entirely through music since 2008! Additionally, I work for a Record Label in Portland, "PJCE Records", and have real life experience with production, press releases and booking through the west coast and mid-west.

In Portland I've been gigging, playing on records, recording music for films, and volunteering every week at Nonprofit Music Schools around town to help underprivileged kids, and expose them to the joy of music. Give me a call and we can talk about what you're interested in, and get lessons started.

Look forward to hearing from you!

*** Lesson Details ***
I'm fairly laid back, and teach from a number of different texts depending on the interests of the student. Each student is different, and I vary instruction accordingly. I have a lot of experience songwriting, composing, and playing as a sideman in groups on different instruments. I've been part of bands led by myself and been hired by other people, as well as composing for different groups of instruments from trios to full orchestras.

If there is interest, I can also provide worksheets based on the curriculum and standards held by the University of Oregon, and Portland State University.

*** Studio Equipment ***
Private home studio equipped with a many guitars, a piano, a Wurlitzer, electric bass and amplifier, two drum kits, and a beautiful kitty.

*** Travel Equipment ***
I can provide guitars, amplifiers, and notebooks for all students even if they do not own guitars or amplifiers. I also make copies and email attachments of all homework, and record lessons and send them to students to listen to when practicing.

*** Specialties ***
I've been playing and studying guitar since I was seven years old. I've attended Berklee School of Music summer workshops, camps, seminars, and presented music theory papers at conferences at the University of Oregon. I can and am willing to teach any type of musical style or interest to any skill level!

I've done a month of lessons so far and it's been going good. Kyle really focuses on making sure I understand the the theory behind playing the ukulele, which is great. I'm not just learning to play songs (which I am), I'm learning to be a better musician. Also, I like how he lets me decide on what songs I learn on.

Kyle was great. Very knowledgeable and engaging. Thinks outside the box and taught me about the underlying structure of music in one lesson that will help me break out of "just taking lessons" to being able to improvise, understand the keyboard and enjoy playing. Just the kind of teacher I was looking for!

Douglas F.

Portland, OR

About Douglas

Do you want to play your favorite songs within days without having to take the time to go through every little step of learning the instrument? Learn on your own time and truly enjoy every step of the way?

After teaching for 6 years and playing for 10, I've learned that the traditional teaching method is not only a big waste of time, but it's the main reason people end up quitting!

I'll show you the shortcut to playing your favorite songs - with even less effort.

My philosophy:
No one is born a musician - all it takes is the genuine desire to learn.

With properly set goals, I'l
l guide you through it in a way that keeps you entertained and striving to play.

You'll get better every time you play, instead of spending your time memorizing a bunch of stuff that will "all musicians need to know".

If you've already gotten this far, you probably have a pretty strong interest in learning guitar - and that's all you need! The best time to learn is now!
