David P.

Cincinnati, OH

About David

David P. began formal training with St. Elizabeth’s church organist on piano at age eight.  His older brothers and sisters taught him how to play guitar at home, and at school he was a featured vocal soloist at concert performances.  During his high school years, he began playing drums and singing at shows around the greater Cincinnati area.  While attending Xavier University, David continued to play in several groups.  He performed with the Xavier University Choir for four years under the direction of conductor and music department chair Helmut Roerig.  David performed with the Xavier
University Percussion Ensemble and studied drums with John Gardner of the Dayton Philharmonic Orchestra for four years.  He studied voice with Harriet Beebe and piano with Rebecca Slater among others for four year also.  While studying electronic music at Xavier, David began teaching classes with professor James Hart.  Today, professor Hart and David are co-composers at Ambient Studios.  David has written countless compositions heard across the globe on networks such as Lifetime, MTV and VH-1.  He is the head of Ambient Studios and Ambient Studios Music Academy.  David has taught at Midwest Music, Queen City Music, Take Lessons, Willis Music, Music Makers, Norwood High School, and Roger Bacon High School.

*** Lesson Details ***
Students will learn to read music literature, play songs, and have fun!  I am an easy-going instructor, while at the same time, I still want to challenge students so they can excel at their instrument.  Most students really look forward to their lessons all week. For drums, students will learn rhythm, rudiments, beats, and fills.  I use a couple of Rick Latham's drum workbooks, and a couple of Ted Reed's workbooks among others.  For beginner's I have eighteen lessons I've designed to get started.  For piano, students will learn keys on the piano, chords, scales, key signatures, grand staff, read music and play songs of all styles, including classical, pop, jazz, folk, gospel, indie, and traditional.  There are children and adult beginners and intermediate workbooks that will be referred to students.  I also have a lot of material I like to use that I've designed.  For voice, students will learn scales, keys, breathing techniques, delivery, and diction.  Breath is the most important tool for proper pitch and vocal strength.  Students are encouraged to play an instrument to help with voice lessons, but this is not necessary.  For guitar, students will learn notes on the guitar, chords, scales, key signatures, read music and play songs, including, pop, rock, indie, jazz, folk, and traditional.  Students can learn to play their favorite songs.  I accept students from beginner to intermediate experience on guitar.  For music theory, students will learn intervals, chords, scales, key signatures, harmony, composition, and figured bass.  Students are encouraged to learn music theory using a piano, but another instrument may be used as well.

*** Studio Equipment ***
Lessons are held at Ambient Studios, a professional commercial recording studio where famous legends like Bootsy Collins have recorded.  Here, students are able to record their own performances, and perfect their craft.  Available instruments are a Roland V-drum set, a Mapex acoustic drum set, a Studiologic 88-key grand piano, Fender, Yamaha, Gibson, and Martin guitars, and state-of-the-art pre-amps and microphones.

*** Specialties ***
I specialize in pop, rock, and funk drums. For piano I specialize in classical, pop, rock, and gospel. For voice I specialize in pop, rock, classical, broadway, and gospel. For guitar I specialize in pop, rock, and folk.

Terrific Teacher

He is a stupendous teacher. He makes his students feel comfortable, which is essential for optimal performance, without being excessively lax. The diaphragmatic breathing technique he began our first lesson with has proven to be incredibly valuable in signing and in my life in general.

Has a gifted teaching ability

David has been an excellent teacher for my young children. He is patient, encouraging, and has a good teaching method. My children made good progress and although they were skeptical about taking lessons, once they had a lesson with David, they continued to come back and made very good progress.

David is an incredible teacher and mentor. I recommend him without any reservations.

David is not only gifted at building your talent and ability - he will help you build your confidence. I took weekly singing lessons with David, starting with no experience at all, and he took me to a place I never thought I could be. Lessons are relaxed, efficient, and directed at your own pace, and David has a way of making you very comfortable with his patient, kind demeanor. He is a diamond in the rough, and easily worth 2x the money.

Christopher M.

Cincinnati, OH

About Christopher

I believe that everyone can enjoy singing. Not everyone gets the opportunity to sing at the Metropolitan Opera, Broadway, or other world famous music halls. Nonetheless, I believe that with proper training, patience, and practice everyone can enjoy the art of singing within their own level of giftedness. If you have never tried to sing for fear of embarrassment, or If you love to sing and want to learn more or if you just want to brush up and fine tune, my studio is the place for you. Nonetheless, I believe that with proper training, patience, and practice everyone can enjoy the art of singin
g within their own level of giftedness.

I take time to listen to a student's instrument and lesson by lesson determine what is the best course of positive action that I and the student need to take in order to achieve the best results not just for today but for the long term. I want my students to enjoy singing, sing excellently, but also have longevity with their voices.

Voice study requires discipline, patience, and the desire to be better everyday! There is a good deal of effort that the student must put forth on their own in that they must practice what they have been taught and come prepared to lessons. My responsibility it to take the students voice and help them get it in shape. I love helping students make new vocal discoveries.
*** Lesson Details ***
I aspire as a teacher to help my students to reach their maximum potential in education and life. Further, I strive to see them share their hard earned talents and gifts with their communities and abroad. I recognize and appreciate the fact that every student is unique and each person has their own abilities, interests and aspirations. With this understanding I endeavor to provide students with a classroom environment that allows for a variety of learning styles to better meet the needs of my students.

I am very happy I started lessons with Dr McBride. He passes on his knowledge and experience in a straightforward gentle, and professional manner. In a short time I have noted positive progress and improvement from his pearls of wisdom and assigned vocal exercises. Recommended without any reservation!

Jon A.

Cincinnati, OH

About Jon

I have been playing guitar since the age of 9. I have studied Classical, and Jazz at CCM's Prep Dept. in middle school and throughout high school as well as rock, folk, country etc. with other local teachers. I started teaching lessons at the age of 18 in local music stores and have never stopped. While doing this I attended The College of Mount St. Joseph where I studied Classical and Jazz guitar as well as Music Ed. In addition to my 22 years of private lesson experience, I have 2 years of classroom experience teaching general music in elementary schools. I believe it is my years as a s
tudent and instructor that enable me to be an effective teacher, having had learned what worked for me as a student, and what has shown to work as a teacher.

*** Lesson Details ***
I cater my lesson to the individual. I like for students to have a structured practice routine and working knowledge of music and their instrument, but it has to be fun. I have students who learn Classical, rock, and Jazz. Each lesson is different. Some people just want to be able to play their favorite songs by a camp fire, and others want to go on to perform at Carnegie Hall. I enjoy teaching both lessons and put forth the same enthusiasm for each one. You get out of the guitar or bass what you put into it in terms of learning and practicing. The level of achievement is up to you, I will help guide you to meet your goals regardless of how large or small they are.

*** Studio Equipment ***
Spare music room: guitars, amps, bass; computer with recording software, ProTools seating for parents

*** Travel Equipment ***
I have all the equipment necessary. I would like the student to have an instrument, but if not I can provide one for the lesson.

*** Specialties ***
I'm really pretty versatile. Over 18 years of teaching anywhere from 80 to 100 students a week will do that.

PJ is a great instructor. He is teaching solid basic skills in addition to keeping the content interesting. He provides excellent feedback in a manner which makes our teen want to correct/improve rather than get frustrated or defensive. PJ also went out of his way to meet our regular schedule request and works effectively via Skype. He has been very accommodating and even pushed a lesson out 2 hours when our son got stranded at school one day. We are looking forward to many Great lessons with PJ and I think that our teen's exposure to him will further ignite his passion in music - really, what more could you ask for than that.
