Jessica P.

Saint Charles, MO

About Jessica

I love music! Living in a musical family can be challenging and inspiring. I began to learn Flute at age 7 and have picked up a variety of instruments since. I began to take lessons in middle school for Tenor Saxophone and Trumpet and continued playing jazz for 6 years. At age 14 I began to take lessons for French Horn, which is now my main instrument. I performed in various middle school and high school state solo and ensemble competitions on all four instruments over the course of 7 years. I am knowledgeable in solo and small ensemble repertoire for all four instruments.

I attended Linde
nwood University where was Principal to the L.U. Symphonic Orchestra for 4 years, a section leader for the L.U. Marching band for 5 years, and Principal of the L.U. band for 5 years. I also performed in various chamber concerts with brass choirs and quintets. I have also organized the University's first woodwind quintet (consisting of: flute, oboe, clarinet, bassoon, and horn) for a senior recital. Over my college years I have performed for several community groups and churches. I have been a featured guest and helped with sectional instruction for the St. Charles Youth Orchestra.

I am starting up my fourth season playing French Horn with the Alton Symphony Orchestra. I have been a board member since November 2015 and will be accepting role of Vice President as of June 2016.

*** Lesson Details ***
I like to tailor each lesson to suit individuals. Everyone learns differently and I can adapt easily. I believe in a "no stress" environment. Stress and tension can affect how you learn and if you're relaxed and having fun then you'll absorb more. My lessons will help inspire creativity and confidence. In our first lesson, we will discuss what YOU would like to get out of the lessons, whether you want to learn a new genre of music, prepare for solo and ensemble, improve technique, and anything else that comes to mind.

For beginning students, we'll learn notes, scales, time signatures, and technical aspects of the instruments and music. For intermediate-advanced students, the lessons will depend on what knowledge you already have and what you would like to learn.

Daily practice is encouraged! A teacher can teach, but it takes a student to put that into practice. I can teach Flute, Saxophone, Trumpet at beginner levels. I can teach French Horn from beginning to advanced levels.

*** Travel Equipment ***
I can provide music and pencils. I expect my students to provide a music stand and a positive attitude. Miscellaneous cleaning/care products and reeds should be provided by the student.

*** Specialties ***
Classical, Baroque, Romantic

Daniela K.

Saint Louis, MO

About Daniela

Hi ! My name is Daniela and I can't wait to meet you!
I have been teaching piano and theory since 1994 and have loved helping my students discover the beautiful world of music. Seeing my students grow into well rounded and educated people that love art, are able to recognize different styles of music, express their feelings and emotions on this wonderful instrument makes me really happy. My students range from people who simply want to learn how to play proficiently as a hobby to students who are considering making music their future career.
I strongly believe that a chance to go on a
big stage and play on a great Steinway piano in front of people, makes a big difference in children's lives: teaches them self control, gives them great sense of accomplishment and satisfaction. Taking part in festivals and piano competitions helps with building high self esteem even more.
I look forward to helping you and your children to reach your goals!

I've been seeing Daniela for piano lessons for a little over two months now. She has been a wonderful instructor and I'm very thankful for the opportunity to learn from her each week. I'm an adult student and it has been a joy to return to playing the piano under Daniela's guidance. I highly recommend her!

Daniela is wonderful! She is so patient... even when my 5 and 7 year-olds are wiped out from their day and not so focused. Daniela is the first piano teacher for my 5 year old and 7 year old and they really enjoy their lessons with her... a great way to introduce piano to them. She's also very flexible with her days/times and always responds to calls/emails quickly. We've signed up for another set of sessions with her!

At the age of 58 I decided to start taking violin lessons for 2 reasons, enjoyment of playing music and exercise my brain. I found Lucy K on the takelessons.com website and she was able to accommodate my request for lessons in my home on a Sunday. Starting from scratch, she taught me the fundamentals of playing and I have made some progress over the last 8 months. She is patient with me yet will push me along and at time bring me out of my comfort zone, which is good. She has the ability and training to teach students from early age to older adults like me. In addition, she also teaches piano, which my wife started lessons with Lucy K at the same time I started violin. She has my recommendation if you have interest in either violin or piano.

Davis W.

Saint Charles, MO

About Davis

Hello fellow guitarist! My name is Davis and I have been playing guitar for eleven years! I have received both classical and modern training and I still take lessons to this day (I never want to stop learning!). I created my first band when I was Junior in highschool and have played in a number of bands since then spanning over multiple genres including rock, funk, metal, and folk. I now have my own solo project and I am learning more and more about performing and communicating musical ideas with other musicians. Currently I am focusing on working with beginner and intermediate players.
Lessons will be conducted out of my home studio or over Skype. Whether you are looking to learn your favorite songs, get a grip on music theory, or learn what it takes to write your own songs, I am your guy!

*** Lesson Details ***

One of the first questions I ask a new student is "what do you want to get out of learning the guitar?" Every student is unique in that every student wants to learn different things about the instrument and learns in different ways. I implicate a goal based approach to teaching/learning the guitar so that every student gets the most they can out of every lesson and has a good time doing so. That being said there are fundamentals in guitar playing technique that I make sure every student learns including knowing the "anatomy" of the guitar, strumming, note names on the fretboard, basic rhythms, etc. I like to use every resource available to me that I can including the internet, guitar books, handouts that I have created, as well as digital audio workstations for creating backing tracks to jam over. I often encourage younger students to take 30-45 minute lessons and students over the age of 14 to take 45 minute lessons at a minimum.

*** Studio Equipment ***

My studio is located in the finished basement of my home in St. Charles, MO. I have electric and acoustic guitars that students are welcome to play on during our lessons if they do not want to bring their own. I also have amplifiers, guitar pedals (so much fun!), an interface, DAW's, music stands, metronome, and more that are incorporated into most lessons. Parents of students are welcome to relax in the lounge area located right next to my studio (don't hesitate to ask for coffee or tea!). I also have basic supplies for creating a custom guitar binder/folder for every student to take home and practice with. All handouts are available in digital format for those wishing to take lessons over Skype.

*** Specialties ***

I specialize in teaching modern techniques for both electric and acoustic guitar. My introduction to learning the guitar came in the form of classical guitar lessons so I can also teach the basics of sight reading and classical guitar playing technique, though most lesson will focus on more modern styles of playing. I am well versed in rock, funk, blues, and traditional acoustic playing styles. I also specialize in songwriting and improvisation/jamming.

My son has been taking lessons from Davis now for a couple of months and he loves it. Davis is an excellent teacher! He is very knowledgeable and super talented. My son enjoys the relaxed environment and the one on one instruction. He has taken lessons before in a group setting with an agenda at hand and did not progress well. With Davis, he is doing great things with the guitar and learning all kinds of different things from the very basics to particular songs that he likes. I am so grateful that we have found Davis and look forward to many more lessons ahead. I would HIGHLY recommend Davis for anyone looking for guitar lessons.

I brought my 11 year old son Jeremy over for his first lesson with Davis about a month ago and I am happy to report that the lessons are going better than we could have hoped for! Davis' home studio has a lounge area that makes sitting in on lessons comfortable (and he makes great coffee too!). I am able to listen to their lesson without interfering with Jeremy's lesson. My son has taken lessons before with other instructors but since taking lessons with Davis he is excited to come home and practice for the first time ever! Thank You!

I came in for my first lesson with Davis about 2 months ago and I have learned more from him in that time than I did in 2 years of trying to learn on my own! I like that he provides an inspiring and fun learning environment and he really takes the time to figure out what I want to get out of playing the instrument. Can't wait for my next lesson!
