Samuel C.

Charlottesville, VA

About Samuel

After graduating from the University of Virginia in 2010 with degrees in History and Music, I spent several years touring and recording with artists on the East Coast, teaching as many as 20 private lessons a week, and learning to play tabla (Indian hand drums) to keep my own musical education alive and moving forward. I have a passion for music of all kinds, and specifically for drums and percussion. As a result of my diverse tastes, I have quite an eclectic performance background. Over the last decade I have performed with rock and metal bands, jazz ensembles, percussion ensembles, various i
ndependent singers and songwriters, musical theater productions, African drum ensembles, and even played tabla for a contemporary dance company in Virginia.

Sam has taught our 10 year old son for over a year now. The best thing about Sam is his ability to make learning fun and also teach and keep our son engaged. He lets my son choose the songs he wants to learn and brings in piano and guitar as my son explores music each week. Sam is extremely professional, punctual and true positive role model to my son and we look forward to his visit each week. We truly found a gem when we found Sam and look forward to a long musical voyage with him and my son.

Sam is terrific teacher. He's been working with our 8-year-old boy for just a short time, but in that time, our son has made amazing progress. Sam's lessons are well-structured, but he lets our son choose the songs he wants to learn. He also makes each lesson fun and is good at adapting if our son finds something easier or more challenging than expected. Sam is also really nice to work with-- professional, punctual, and courteous. We all highly recommend him.

Truly cannot ask for more, amazingly talented teacher w/ positive vibe!

Sam is not only an amazing drummer and drum teacher, but he is one of those people who brings a positive vibe with him everywhere he goes. My son began drum lessons with Sam three years ago at 5 years old, and Sam was flexible with both studio and home lessons. As a school teacher myself, I could see that Sam's teaching style offers a structure customized to each student's learning style, yet also allows for fun through musical exploration. His effortless positive energy and encouragement, easily spills over to his students during lessons, which allows them to reach their maximum potential while fostering a passion and love for drumming! Trust me when I say, this is not an easy feat when teaching a five, six or seven year old, yet Sam made it look easy, and my son couldn't wait until the next lesson! Sam is professional, invested in his students' musical growth and happiness, and is very reliable, you truly cannot ask for more!
