Currently the viola player in the University of Virginia Klezmer Ensemble, I have played viola for 50 years. I learned classical viola under Albert Hirtz of the Pittsburgh Symphony, played in orchestras, and taught myself Old-Time fiddle for the viola. Although I also play violin, I believe that viola is the most beautiful and amazing instrument of all. Come learn the power of the viola with me.

Custom exercises and choice of material is based on the student's level and field of study. Lessons are scheduled at the student's convenience as per availability. Frequency and length of lessons is based on the students needs. Young voice students are taught general concepts, music theory, and ear training. After the voice is more mature, advanced and serious vocal study can be pursued. Melissa's students receive a well-rounded training in the style of their choice: Classical, Popular, Musical Theatre, and Jazz. For over 30 years I have been singing in countless amount of venues with a plethora of experience including a BA in Classical Vocal Performance from Virginia Commonwealth University. In 2011, I made the decision to open up my doors to pass down my legacy of the love of song and what a blast it has been. I am a professional flutist available for solo or ensemble-based wedding performances, recitals, and teaching. I received my Master's with highest honors from the Royal Academy of Music in London last year and completed my undergraduate degree at Princeton University in 2013. I have been playing music since the age of five and have four years' experience teaching students ages 5 to 55. Career highlights include being featured on National Public Radio, performing at Avery Fisher Hall, and playing at the King's Theatre in Edinburgh, Scotland.
